"I aint gonna hurt you ... especially if you want me to" first time I actually caught that lyric in this song. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds music is like one of those movies you keep watching, and seeing different things in it.
I reviewed this glastonbury appearance at the time. Every year Nick Cave plays festivals where there are crowds present who are unsure of his work,, they end up open mouthed and almost startled by what they have witnessed! Long live the prince of darkness.
I was right up the front for this. It was incredible. There was a young girl about the same age as me 18/19 to my left. We chatted a bit she had travelled all the way from somewhere in Eastern Europe I think to see him. I think she had pink hair? Anyway..hope you see this! I was in awe of your braveness!
This is fucking amazing. The amount of people in the crowd who have no clue what is going on, make me want to scream. This is Cave in the Flesh, this is Cave in the fucking moment!!! You will never see Cave as you see him here again!! This makes me sad.
I discovered Nick Cave through Metallica's cover of this song over 8 years, I now own everything cave has ever done and he is my favorite artist of all time. Love you Cave!
That's what I call passion! Nick Cave's voice here is amazing! The whole band creates a new atmosphere while playing this, watching this you can tell that Nick Cave got a lot of passion for his music and that's really good!
I was at the front and even with the distance they were incredible. It was only really the first few rows who were there to see him! But we were all up for it!!
I like this version better than the other version from '96 that's up here - I think from the Bizaare Festival (??) Blixa's playing just seems more inspired.
Nick Cave is not only much more talented that James Hetfield (no offense to Metallica) he's also way more attractive. Martin Gore's cover was better than Metallica's. But, then, I'm a Depeche Mode fan.
Maybe everyone complaining about the singing in this live video dubbed from whoever's faded old VHS taped copy of this of an obviously drunk Nick Cave might do good to actually listen to the studio version on the album 'Let Love In', then make a judgement on his singing voice.
@StiflerGREECE I just think Metallica's cover is funny because you'd think turning it into a metal song would make it more intense and violent but nope, they fucked that up.
Metallica's cover better? Are you kidding? Metallica's cover was a last ditch attempt by the band to make some decent music as they left their best days behind. Nick is incredible! Some has-been metal band will never improve upon any of Nick's music.
Can't understand how people say metallicas version is awfull, but I guess that's the result of fanboys. Think they're both great. It's a really well composed song! For me, the nick cave version has a lot more frustration within it, while metallica gives me a strong feeling of supressed anger
@Akaarei O.k. I understand where your'e coming from but remember;Metallica sang their version under the best of circumstances with a top notch studio and probably their shrink in the next room. For Nick Cave it was like tuesday...
@Skurvfjes Metallica don't seem to think Nick sucks... As for not logical, you fail at grasping the intent of the song. Pay attention to the lyrics and maybe you'll figure out why Nick sings it the way he does. He's not just singing, he's voice acting. Something that Hetfield will never be able to do. And yes, I am a Metallica fan. And most songs on Garage, Inc. are NOT as good as the originals. Stop being a fan-boy, open your mind to other music styles, and maybe you'll figure it out.
I was at that Glastonbury and made a point of avoiding this performance primarily because at the time I felt Nick Cave was fucking awful and 23 years later I still hold that view.
Metallica fans will hate this song.. Cave fans will hate the Metallica cover.. I'm a fan of both bands and I like each band's version of the song...but as always, the original is always a little bit better than a cover!
Cave been pretty open with the drugs he was doing back then, but I dont belive LSD was ever one of them. Is it just me or doesnt he look rather sober during this performance? Yes, its a perfomance
Well of course the original will be better, but your statement is still so ignorant. Metallica put their cover of this song on Garage, inc. which was solely a cover album to pay tribute to their favorite musicians. They weren't trying to out do anyone.
Never knew a more intense performer. How he and the band can skip from calm to chaos in a split second is remarkable.
I’ve always referred to that as their wall of sound.
Blixa´s whispers
"I aint gonna hurt you ... especially if you want me to" first time I actually caught that lyric in this song. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds music is like one of those movies you keep watching, and seeing different things in it.
Hi Cathy !..hope you're well ..remember BSTV?
Stay strong ! 😎
Really what a performance! Surely among his best ever.

This Prince of Darkness is a God fearing man that goes to church mate.
Pity about his sons and everyone else who has dropped dead associated with him. Sad but true.
@@ange_moHe can be both. God created darkness too, didn't he?
@@lucylovicWhat a disgusting thing to say.
@@sweetnuthin no, darkness is absence of light. Null and void
I wonder how many babies were made to this song.
I was right up the front for this. It was incredible. There was a young girl about the same age as me 18/19 to my left. I already adore this song, but this version... oh my god. I feel I could listen to it over and over again and never get tired of it.
Listening to this is like, awaking the memory that the world used to be a good place to be.
This is fucking amazing. The amount of people in the crowd who have no clue what is going on, make me want to scream. This is Cave in the Flesh, this is Cave in the fucking moment!!! You will never see Cave as you see him here again!! This makes me sad.

This really should came back on his setlist.
It was on his setlist all through the 90's and much of the 2000's. I've seen it played many, many times! Definitely a good one, live.
Dublin and Berlin 2018 too
still frighteningly brilliant.
beast mode
Lauren Murray Yes!
That's what I call passion! Nick Cave's voice here is amazing! The whole band creates a new atmosphere while playing this, watching this you can tell that Nick Cave got a lot of passion for his music and that's really good!
Man this is what real music is about....serene chaos
Nick in a leather jacket - thumbs up!
This is just so good, the man is a genius.
And one more time....right in front of my own eyes, way back in 1994 on my birthday.....what a present!!!!!
Damn, there is like 10 miles between the stage and the audience!
this performance blows my mind. I'm trying to imagine what he was thinking and feeling at that time.
Master of breathtaking temptation.
BRUTAL !!!
Amazing! Was just chillin to the 'tallica version and thought id check out the man himself, unreal song, unreal proformance.
Добряк. Охуительно.
Must have been hard on Nick having such a wide physical separation from the crowd. He needs that touch, that proximity,
On top of that, this is the most energetic crowd I've seen after Madame Tussauds.
I was at the front and even with the distance they were incredible. It was only really the first few rows who were there to see him! But we were all up for it!!
one of his best song (for me:-)
Absolute awesome!
Totally hot ! 🖤
If I was going to go on Austrailian x factor, I would sing this song. Its actual Australian talent.
That would be something. Or go back to a Birthday Party song and really scare the shit out of 'em.
blixa I love you
I love him too. Don't we all?
Yes! the band is not the same without him and Mick Harvey.
And Nick Cave is good god!
I've been Hit and had know Idea where It came. Holy crap, this os beautiful
this is just too awesome. *faints*
Brutal, great, wording perfect, performance great
Freaking strong chorus.
Beautiful man! Genius.
i saw this on initial broadcast and was blown away... still absolutely sublime after 22 years
I always find people arguing in the comments, and i think to myself. why can they just appreciate ,and love both artist like i do?
@davvvvey: Thank you for the words of wisdom!
I hope you'll have a full and rewarding life, that your belly will grow big and youll have lots of children.
God bless
Este tema es todo lo que esta bien en este puto mundo. Nick Cave es todo lo que esta bien en este mundo.
2:24 blixas like "hands off"
This is the best version of Loverman ever - better even than the one on Let Love In. Thanks for the upload.
A rare and great video!
I also want to be in this band.
for real
500 meters distance from the stage to the crowd, why Glastonbury? Great performance nonetheless.
A great!
I like this version better than the other version from '96 that's up here - I think from the Bizaare Festival (??)

James' vocals have the power to turn a sofisticate and sexy song into a ordinary angry song.
@lilithbernstein - Metallica is like a polished American Idol version of the song, The original was very abrasive and dark.
02:20 Blixa is having none of Nick’s theatrical show.
FUUUUUUUCK YEAH!!!
Nick Cave is Nick cave and Metallica is Metallica you can't even compare the two they are completely different.
Maybe everyone complaining about the singing in this live video dubbed from whoever's faded old VHS taped copy of this of an obviously drunk Nick Cave might do good to actually listen to the studio version on the album 'Let Love In', then make a judgement on his singing voice.
And that's, Metallica, how is done.
Lucas Garibaldi Metallica has you dancing and they don't even know about it!
I really rate both versions. Different but great in their own way.
Lucas Garibaldi sounds like shit wtf is this crap!?
Pink blinders me trouxe aqui
Nick Cave this, Metallica that. I’m here to ogle Blixa.
"r is for ring me" lol
the vocals sound like Jim Morrisson
I adore Jim, but he never got this intense for as long as Cave did.
Fuck ya!
@StiflerGREECE
I just think Metallica's cover is funny because you'd think turning it into a metal song would make it more intense and violent but nope, they fucked that up.
FLS4 Certain metal is so often nothing more than a display of skill at an instrument making it boring as shit.
Metallica's cover better? Are you kidding? Metallica's cover was a last ditch attempt by the band to make some decent music as they left their best days behind.
Nick is incredible! Some has-been metal band will never improve upon any of Nick's music.
NothingSacred27 please get off drugs
i am big fan of metallica, but this is very cool. Most drive, emotion, truth etc. Nick is genius
@LieutenantBekker he's been clean for a long time
@conkerz22 he can sing. but this is attitude. it's about the lyrics not about the tone.
honestly, I agree
Can't understand how people say metallicas version is awfull, but I guess that's the result of fanboys.
Think they're both great. It's a really well composed song!
For me, the nick cave version has a lot more frustration within it, while metallica gives me a strong feeling of supressed anger
no one is cooler than nick, wash your vingers with soap (dutch saying)
Doesn't express anything? He wrote this song. Metallica covered it, how can it mean any more than Cave's?
FUCK I WISH I WAS THERE!!!
@Akaarei O.k. I understand where your'e coming from but remember;Metallica sang their version under the best of circumstances with a top notch studio and probably their shrink in the next room. For Nick Cave it was like tuesday...
Metallica?no way!its disco.he he.only NICK CAVE,DEPECHE MODE,THE DOORS!100%real..
👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥💋
kind of reminds me of the voice of ian curtis from joy division
No

Everyone has its own opinion. I vote on Metallica but I still respect Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
I was at that Glastonbury and made a point of avoiding this performance primarily because at the time I felt Nick Cave was fucking awful and 23 years later I still hold that view.
Are you okay?
excellent.. anybody knows where i can find the whole show??
Metallica fans will hate this song.. Cave fans will hate the Metallica cover.. I'm a fan of both bands and I like each band's version of the song...but as always, the original is always a little bit better than a cover!
Who is the guitarist with long hair ?
Blixa Bargeld!
Cave been pretty open with the drugs he was doing back then, but I dont belive LSD was ever one of them. Is it just me or doesnt he look rather sober during this performance? Yes, its a perfomance
this live version is so much better then the album version....but still...iperfer metallica
How much longer...
4:22 *FAINTS*
fuckin ace video! cheers for uploading!

Damn he has a sexy voice
the crowd looks dead though :|
Guys Metallica is only Movies and Video Games check out their albums check out Megadeth albums and Nick Cave's...
I must admit that I quite like the Metallica cover...there's more of that raw brute force in that version that the words imply, isn't there?
Добряк. Охуительно.
who isn't DM fan? ;)
I mean... it's reading festival?
Since when did Nick get or lovey dovey.birthday party better.
Good point, but still.
Metallica covered it great guys ;) but I like the orignial song too.
:)
james!?Better?? lol you must be a kid.
It's simple Weeninja, ... Hetfield abused on alcohol instead of LCD, thus we can understand him better -.-
kkkkkkkkkkkk
