Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca (voice of Jacob Tremblay) shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, Alberto (voice of Jack Dylan Grazer), but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.
Directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”).
Disney and Pixar’s “Luca” will debut exclusively on Disney+ on June 18, 2021.
Voice Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Saverio Raimondo, Maya Rudolph, Marco Barricelli, Jim Gaffigan, Sandy Martin
Director: Enrico Casarosa
Producer: Andrea Warren - Krátké a kreslené filmy
How awesome was Luca?! 😃😍
Did I miss anything and what are your theories about the movie?
Luca was amazing 👌
96/100!!
My theory on this is that the film is confirmed to be in the 1950s and 60s. Would take place before or after The Incredibles 1 & 2. It would explain why human nature is evolving in various places thanks to the wisps from Brave.
@@FlicksAndTheCity exactly! Luca does set around that time before or after the Incredibles. It’s the first step of nature changing before Finding Nemo.
@@BMasterAnimation Yep, I did look for an Incredibles easter egg or connection knowing it's set around then but couldn't find one.
For some reason I didn’t have high expectations for Luca, but it blew my expectations out of the water (pun kind of intended)
Really? For me it was the reverse. I was expecting way more, but it was still a pretty good movie
I had the same experience the last movies they have done have been very underwhelming in the last couple of years, a lot of ppl related to this movie but but the homophobia during this movies announcement……😮💨
Literally
@@edymadrid5350 there was homophobia?
@@andykorn9837 yeah this movie was an experimental type from looks to hard topics, when this movie was announced they wanted to highlight a *watered* down coming out LGBTQ type of feel(pun intended) and the creators made it be known, which triggered the homophobes regardless it was a cute movie and the message behind it was gr8 IMO🧎🏻♂️
Warren: How many Italian references do you want to put in this film?
Casarosa: *YES*
Lol
LOL
Trust me, italians loved them.
@@none4174 as an Italian, i can confirm that
@@rightyne5132 I'm saying that as an italian myself
I am so proud for Pixar to make a film that there is Italy!!! 🇮🇹🥰
I love how the Italian aria they chose at the beginning was "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi, in which the character of Lauretta is beginning her father to let her have what she wants most. It's a great thematic tie-in, even though it's not romantic love (at least explicitly) in the case of Luca.
2:41 that's a popular Italian toy
Basically there's a button under the pedestal and when you press it the toy (in this case Pinocchio but it can be any other character like animals or other things) flops like it has no bones
That's because there's string inside of it and when you press the button they become loose and that's why the toy flops
I have like 3 in my room from when I was a kid
Thanks for the info!
I have some toys like the one that you mentioned.
When Luca and Alberto were dancing to the “magic singing woman”, they were doing the SAME dance in ratatouille when he came back, and the two rats were doing the same dance.
Edit: thanks for all the likes :) 👍🏽
No porbalem and good find
I found that, even though it is obvious, I never noticed that Luca sits on his tail at -6:46(clicking it won’t take you to the right time).
Another one is the Cinderella poster right before they meat Luca's parents look behind the two old ladies
:o SO COOOOOL
I also didn't knew about this cool that you're Easter egg got more than 200 likes 👍🏻
When the Vespa breaks Alberto runs like Sonic the Hegehog
Lol no. He runs like the road runner which came WAYYYY before sonic. Look it up
It's perfect
@@zyrealo.c5806 no my comment is true
@@wendy1626 girl what?😭✋🏾
@@zyrealo.c5806 my comment is true ):(
When he says, "Go start the club for losers!" it may be a reference to IT which was another movie Jack Dylan Grazer was in.
Great find! 👍🤡
OMG I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE I LOVE THAT
You have a red panda as your pfp
Did you know next pixar film called turning red has a girl who turns into red panda
@@soleagaming7269 Yeah, I'm very excited for that film! It's not the reason why it's my pfp though. I just really like red pandas lol.
i didn't even notice that YES
Alberto had a blue umbrella while everyone else had black when it started raining, just like the Pixar short The Blue Umbrella.
Another Easter egg is that one of the crabs Luca’s father touches is name Principessa( sorry if I spelled that wrong) which is a reference the the movie Life is Beautiful.
It was right, but you wrote it detached: It's Principessa. :D (I'm italian and it's right!
@@lexymako thank you I knew i spelled it wrong
Well, in Italian it means "princess", it can be a coincidence
at 10:50 it's fish because Alberto thought that stars were fish so instead of stars around his head there are fish
Lol excuse the horrendous grammar
LOL, yes nice point!
@@FlicksAndTheCity that’s what the only Easter egg that I noticed and that’s what I thought you were gonna say😄😃
Absolutely loved this beautiful and touching film.
Do you notice this was kind of Disney way of making a film about lgbtq+, the boys are hiding a secret that no one can find out and a lot of people are against them. This just makes me love the movie even more 🥰❤️
@Andre DeVine So happy to hear you enjoyed it, Andre. Thought it was truly beautiful. 😊
This is my new favourite Pixar movie
I could imagine that the goat fish uncle Hugo talks to is Enrico, the fish Luca talked about when one of the goat fishes wanted to swim away into the ocean. (Btw that could maybe be a Nemo reference, because Nemo got lost when he swam away and got caught by the diver)
That goat fish in the post credits scene is the one that ran away that Luca talked about in the beginning of the movie
I Don’t see anyone talking why the girls dad looks very similar to flints dad in cloudy with a chance of meatballs
And he runs a sardine company doesn’t he? 🤔 or something with sardines…
YES! and they're both fishermen!
He’s the one from Luna
@@jazz5842 WHAAAT
@@desireeparks4930 yep ! It was an Easter egg to the Pixar short La Luna as Luca and La Luna were created by the same director !
i actually saw a bit of a reference in the movie luca alberto and all of the other sea monsters turn into humans once dry and as soon as they get water on themselves that certain part of them gets turned back into sea monster which i feel like had a slight reference to a tv show called H2O a tv show about mermaids that can turn into regular people but once wet they turn back into mermaids but idkr- just a thought
I only knew Nick Pitera as a singer on youtube, I had no idea he's an animator at Disney! That's pretty cool!
Hi, well in a scene Alberto jumps into the water and turns in to a sea monster. Guilia lifts up his arm and if you look closely to Alberto’s arm he has a cut on his arm.
The name of Massimo's cat (Machiavelli) is a reference to the Italian philosopher, historian and politic Niccolò Machiavelli (1469 - 1527).
Niccolò Machiavelli has been considered as the father of political science and political philosophy
don't forget Caligola the turtle
@@Spumpolox oh, yes. In addition, there is also Nerone the dog.
Both Names are a reference to two Roman Emperors
Hmmm…. Is this the first Disney/Pixar movie where one of the characters DOESNT die
Also I noticed none of the characters had a tragic backstory in which they specifically lost someone to death; Alberto’s father just abandoned him/Giulia’s mom lives in Genova
@@MiquellaTheUnannoyed yah… WAIT I FORGOT GIULIA HAD A MOM. Not the first but one of the few Disney/Pixar movies where the female protagonist/antagonist’s mom isn’t dead
I think there is toy story (but I havent seen the 4th so please dont spoil me 😭)
@@janfiloute_the_noob4045 well the dad didn’t die… as far as I know, he was just never there
(all theorized and not Easter eggs)
1. Bruno is Alberto's dad name
2. The plot takes place in 1954 because of the films that can be seen in the background
3. The monster characters' surnames translations are fishy (it could be predicted the two old ladies were monsters)
4. Huge comparison to "Call me by your name"(Luca=Timothé Chalamet, both take place in Italy, they are seen as monsters and harmfull for society, they wanna be free)
5. When Luca at the end COMES OUT to the rain he reveals his true self (the two old ladies who are always together do so) . His parents want to take him to the deep when they find out.
the film seen on the TV though came out in 1958, and in the end credits Luca is seen watching the 1969 moon landing
@@CaptainJZH yeah, that's right, but the 3 films on the cinema cardboard are from the 54. So maybe the other things are just references since for example the director of the film on TV is Italian. But yeah, more or less those are the time settings.
I adored the “Silenzio, Bruno!” moments. I think it is a useful tool and may use it with the children I nanny, or even for myself!
we don't talk about Bruno.
Idk if this is an Easter egg or not but one of Luca’s goat fish’s names is Mona Lisa
Yeah I noticed that too but I don't think they would make an Easter egg with something they didn't make
@@Hi_im_Corn especially since its quite public with luca just saying it
@Uzzi exactly
I maybe looking at it wrong but I feel at 5:25 there’s a lighting bolt on Lucas helmet that may reference to Lightning Mcqueen from Cars. Also you notice that he’s trying to race to the finish line.
I noticed that too but I think it's more like because lightnings are cool to kids, they also added flames to the Vespa they drew for example, or to reference Alberto earlier in the movie when they say something like:
"Oh, we should bring a telescope!"
"Yes, that shoots lightnings!"
Omg your right
I thought it looked like a clown fish. its back end
I saw it too after you said something about it, and I think you're right.
Luca was way better than I thought! I loved these to make the movies more fun when I watch them because I can look out for all the hidden things!
Another thought on the naming of Portorosa: The Italian city in Cars 2 where the Lemons meet up is called Porto Corsa. A bit similar, don't you think?
I really was waiting for that to be mentioned too! I saw and noticed that RIGHT away! Maybe too obvious of an Easter egg for it to be mentioned? 🤷♀️
to be fair, Porto just means port, and there are a ton of Italian words ending in -osa so that could just be a coincidence
Loved this movie so much!
In the credits of the movie, the cat Machiavelli befriends a tortoise named Caligola (Italian for Caligula). 🐢
Caligula was a mad Roman emperor, who named his horse a senator and ordered a war against the sea god Neptune (Roman soldiers were ordered to go to the beach and start hitting the sea water).
The name Caligula for the tortoise is probably due to a reference to the Roman tortoise formation (a war formation of the Roman army).
Moreover, the Machiavelli's friendship/enmity may be due to the work “The prince” by Niccolò Machiavelli, in which the author describes the characteristics of the ideal leader
Your pronounce of the words is amazing. I actually notice a few of these references in the movie but now I want to rewatch it to catch all of them
Many thanks! So cool that you spotted some of these already. Hope you have fun hunting for more easter eggs on your rewatch! 😊
There are three other Easter Eggs that I’ve noticed: 1. When it comes to Luca sneaking into town to explore without his parents noticing is similar to Quasimodo from “The Hunchback Back of Notre Dame” sneaking in town to the festival without Frollo noticing. 2. For how much the humans and sea monsters are afraid of each other is very but get along at the end is very similar to the people and “Box Trolls” being afraid of each other then get along at the end. Also when Alberto was collecting things at night in the beginning was similar to the beginning of Box Trolls (mostly when it comes to the alarm clock). 3. The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Box Trolls have the same type of ending by as the movie Luca being accepted with freedom. That includes the ending of The Little Mermaid when King Triton let Ariel Free.
Good point, I also really love The Hunchback of Notre Dame and so far what I think Luca Quasimodo have in common is that they both never left the ocean and the cathedral for fear of being treated like "monsters" because of their true form. but in the end they both receive the respect of the people, and I think Giulia plays a role almost similar to that of Esmeralda
What about the easter egg that teases the next pixar movie
Love it! I got none of these on my own 😂
Me too I was busy laughing, crying and just vibing
Me too for real
@Cyrus Bozorgmehr of course you are, she did 😂
Hi
@MmDisney200 Very happy to have helped you find them now! 😊
I wonder if Bruno was the name of Alberto's father jw.
.... HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA SILENZIO BRUNO HAHAHAHAHAH lol actually im italian, its rare to find ppls that are named BRUNO or UGO
I always loved the finding nemo, and finding dory Easter eggs.
The post-credits is an easter-egg to Finding Nemo's Post-credit
Imagine watching the movie over and over again just to look for easter eggs.
😮
I watched it 5 times my dude
At the start of the film luca talks to his fish enrico about his friend saying he’s either out there seeing the world or he’s dead the same friend Luca talks about is the one in the end Creds with uncle ugo
Luca is so intent on meaning something that it only ever halfway inhabits the delightfully colorful world it lays out. We never get a deeper understanding of the history between the sea monsters and the humans beyond some hints that there has been far more interaction than Luca was raised to believe.
While you’re certainly right, that’s not really the intended focus of the movie. The film at its core is meant to be a purely emotional piece about friendship, childhood and coming of age...using sea monsters as a unique storytelling perspective. Luca takes inspiration from Miyazaki films, in which the themes of the story trump any worldbuilding the filmmakers establish; that aspect is more so up to the viewer to speculate on because all and all the “lore” of the world is not important or necessary in telling the story at hand
Alberto running like that makes me remind of sonic 10:42
There's also in the end credits illustrations, Luca And Giulia watching the 1969 Apollo moon landing!
I actually noticed the stuffed Donald duck next to the bed when luca & qiuilia were talking about the book.
Luigi from Cars is also a hidden Easter egg in the film. He’s in the plaza of the town and is a different color.
I there’s one thing you forgot the Vespa has White walls just like what McQueen had ( but I never noticed ANY of the Easter eggs.....like usual....)
Same hare
I had no idea Nick Piterra was both a singer and animator
When I was watching this movie I couldn’t help but compare Alberto to Lupin! Can’t believe I was right that the castle of caligliostro was used as an inspiration xD
The pizza planet truck has a design and sometimes Pixar makes it look different for the movies.
You forgot the jack skellington skull in the beginning of the movie when he first comes home for lunch ! It’s hanging behind him on one of the baskets holding the herbs and plants !
I loved it so much! I got just a few references and easter eggs, haha! Because I was so interested enjoying the movie and having fun that I completely forgot to keep looking to find them XD Anyways, it's among my favorite Pixar movies now, in the beginning I thought it was going to be "more from the same" typical of these "good monsters" movies that people have to accept and all but it really isn't just about that, it was clear that the main theme is friendship. It has beautiful messages, beautiful animation and fun and cute characters. Enrico Casarosa did great along with everyone else involved 💙 And I have Italian descent, it was so good to see more of it in the movie, another reason for connecting with it 🥰
Thank you for all your hard work on your videos! Great job every time!
So nice of you! Thanks, Dean! 😊
Do the deleted scenes next!
Love Luca movie rn 😂🤩
Luca’s last name means hermit crab in English.
Edit: remember at the beginning of the movie when Luca is herding the fish. And he tells the fish not to run away like that other fish. Who he says is probably dead. Well the end credits show where that run away fish is.
Another thing one of the teammates of carpole was named Guido supposedly after the Italian car in cars
Awesome video as always 👌
Thanks again!
Graciás! Loved your video description 😍
THIS IS SO MIND BLOWING VIDEO I EVER SEEN :0
When you see Donald Duck before she even mentions him and you haven't watched Luca (so you're just spoiling yourself): OOH- DONALD!
What did Alberto say to luca in Italian that he didn’t know the meaning?
He said "piacere, Girolamo Trombetta", literally "pleased to meet you, I'm Jerome Little-trumpet". It's a common joke based on word play you make while presenting yourself, and it has many iterations depending on where in Italy you're from, but they all work in the same way.
It works like this:
while shaking hands with the other person, you introduce yourself as "Girolamo Trombetta", doing a turning or circular motion with your hand on "Girolamo" ("giro" meaning "turn"), and a back and forth one on "Trombetta", as if you were playing a trumpet.
Other versions maintain the first name Girolamo and the same motions, but change the surname. For example the one from where I grew up is "Girolamo Seghetti", "seghetti" meaning "hacksaws". Another one I've heard is "Girolamo Pompetta", "pompetta" meaning "little pump".
I feel this is waaay to deep an Italian injoke to be understood by all, but that bit at the end when Alberto asks Luca to find its meaning for him made me cry even tho I knew what it meant.
....can this all be considered a spoiler?🤣
@@hilariousbenjamin5614 I came here into the murky deep of the comments to make sure this was here. Thank you!
He said, "Piacere, Girolamo Trombetta" Which means Nice to meet you. My name is Twisty Trombone. This is funny because when Alberto first met Luca while he was shaking his hand he twisted their hands and pulled Luca's hand back and forth like a trombone.
Did you notice when ercole try’s to splash Luca but hits Alberto is a reference to scream
Great video :D
Luca is so cool I wish I could turn in too a fish and be swimming in the ocean

I love how hollywood cartoons mostly contain unique easter eggs.
I wanna know what the deal is with John Ratzenberger. On Wikipedia in his filmography it does list that he was a few of the extras in the town in this movie, but why are they making his voice appearances sooo unnoticeable? I'm afraid they're trying to phase him out which would be sad. He hasn't missed a movie yet, and I don't want that to change ):

I don’t know if anybody else knew, but when Alberto introduces the tower to Luca, Luca says “mother of pearl” which is a reference to what mr. krabs says when he sees something crazy or insane. So that’s a spongebob reference.
I also noticed the Donald duck, when I watched the movie.
Well done! 😊
OMG TYSMMMM
It would’ve been cool if they added Herbie as an easter egg in the film.
I’m so sad John ratzenberger isn’t in this movie :( it was a tradition that is now broken :(
He was shown in the cast looking it up
I can think of three options:
1) They forgot to cast him.
2) They choose to end that tradition.
3) He didn't found the time to work on Luca.

@Peachy Where can we find him?

I would like to think that the goatfish that appeared with Ugo at the end of the credits was Enrico, which Luca mentions when he was talking to one of the other goatfish. He explained Enrico went loose and ran away. So it's a neat idea to think about.
Edit: Okaaay, so someone actually had the same idea. I wasn't aware of the comment. The concept, and comment was addressed in the video, "The SECRET Moments You Missed in LUCA's ENDING!". So my apologies for restating an already mentioned theory.
