    If you have not done so already, drill some 1/2" (or 3/4 if the planks are over 1.25" thick) dowel holes to secure the bench planks to the ends. Perhaps 2 or 3 per edge, roughly 2" deep into the planks. After a dry fit, glue the whole thing up and reassemble. For a tight glue connection , use ratchet straps. Wipe away excess flow out. Be sure glue is waterproof/meant for outdoor use. Chisel/saw/sand dowels so they are surface flush. Be sure to lightly sand areas where glue flow out occurred so finish is uniform. Finish as desired.
    BUT BEFORE YOU DO!
    You may find that the bench center likes to sag/give a bit under load. You can add a 6"x1" board underneath the sitting plank so it acts like a joist. Just a couple of notches on the ends, a couple more dowel holes and it should sit the whole family with confidence.
    Back rest sagging? Piss off - yer on yer own mate.

    Hey really like the bench style, incase you don't know there is a book of standards for furniture etc. It would have the dimensions for things like seat and back angle, seat height. This would get you a starting point then adjust slightly if needed for your own preference. Of course the information is probably available on line too. Cheers.

    Was wondering if the log was dried and seasoned? The reason I say this is When you peeled the log, it seemed to peel like it was green. Wondering if that bench checked And twisted on you also wondering what you used to put it together as far as glue and lag's or DOW LSI.. really like to look of it! good job. What kind of wood? • @foxhollerhomestead
      @foxhollerhomestead  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey there Dale!
      The log was pretty green, only brought it down about two months before I did this.
      This is from a western red cedar tree so even after all the time since I made the video, it still has not twisted or split!!
      Western cedar is great for outdoors as well because it does not rot.
      As far as putting it together, I did not use any dowels or lags, or any glue at all. Everything fit nice and tight and even after it is dried it’s still very solid.
      And yes, I have to agree. It was very therapeutic. I just recently made a video about a month or so ago where I built a sweat lodge out of Cedar logs as well! Got to sweat it for the first time last weekend, and it was great!
      Anyhow, many blessings to you and your family, my friend

      lol thank you so much my brother!
      And yes I will put a Sealund on it eventually after it dries but for now it’s completely OK.
      The awesome thing about western red cedar is that it is A very resistant wood to rotting. Which is why most people use cedar for shingle siding as well as fences, decks etc out here.
      There is still some that I want to do to it like around the edges and sand it down but it will take a full season To completely dry out
