    I’ve got an 08 and have owned it since 2012. I did all the maintenance that you described over time, have had a mild MHD tune on it and have had no problems and am still on the stock turbos with 120k on the clock. Agreed have had my 08 xi since 2019 and it has never left me stranded. I'm at 105k and just finished installing my hybrids. Rear turbo was leaking oil but still ran fine. I have done all the maintenance over the years BEFORE things fail lol. That's the key imo don't wait until the water pump dies then keep clearing codes and continue driving it. Cheap owners that can't fix stuff themselves this ain't the car for you. Nothing is available at napa or advance auto so it's usually gotta be ordered. If you don't have another whip again probably not your car. Then again I don't keep anything stock your miles may vary.

    I think one of the biggest things that people don’t ever talk about is the timing chain. I bought a 08 335i with 126k and 5,000 miles later the chain began to rattle bad. I replaced it just in time before it went out. Many people focus on these big issues you addressed but the ones we never hear about they go unknown.

    This video just got you a subscribe. 100% right I started progress to full bolt on and then started running into issues. Oil filter housing and valve cover leaked onto the belt, it slipped, snapped and sucked into the engine. Luckily I was just idling and taught myself to replace the crankshaft seal, drop the oil pan to extract belt debris, and replace all weak point gaskets. It was a pain and took weeks. DO THE MAINTENTANCE FIRST. I almost destroyed my engine but learned through the mistakes how to work on these cars.

    I'd be interested in the manual or DCT swap DIY for N54/N55 builds. Seems Legit Garage may have a cool DCT swap kit in the future. It would also be cool to showcase N54/N55 builds that can sustain medium to advanced drift/time attack/autox usage. Since N54/N55 cars are approaching $5k +/- on the used market, I can imagine a bunch of 16 year olds buying them for track missile and guard rail destroyer usage. So if you can help solve their potential problem of oil, coolant, transmission, differential, and oil pressure issues down the road, I bet you'll get more views.

      I dont think the N54s are considered the modern 2jz, if anything the B58 or S58 is. The N54 would be more like a 1JZ, great engines that produce a lot of horsepower. Although to achieve 1000hp, it requires a significant amount of money. The main factor holding things back, is that there is not enough development. Not very many options for standalone ECUs

      Unfortunately finding a F06 650i may be a little difficult. Although all the F chassis N55 is relatively the same! Next one that comes in I'll make a video. Do you have any specific requests?

    Why can’t the automatics handle the extra power? How much could you safely push with an auto?

    • @TruongMikeMai
      @TruongMikeMai  Před 3 lety

      I would say the most you can push is about 600whp. I recommend to run redline D6 transmission fluid and XHP stage 3 flash!

    How much should I drop $ if I want 500-650whp? I was wondering if I should do like 10k or 18k?

    What manual transmission fluid do you recommend or is this 1000hp car running?

      Redline D4. I’ve tried a lot of different fluids and this is by far my favorite fluid to use

    My dad just got a 2007 335i, He changed the intake box to a dual cone cold air intake, and he’s thinking of getting a new inter cooler. Doesn’t really want to make a lot power because he likes the stock power,. It’s at about 75,000 miles right now and the owner really babied the car with no mods done. Guess he was a surgeon who mostly used it to and from work. Anyways haha is there anything besides in the video you would suggest?

      Besides maintenance, I would recommend an aluminum chargepipe. As the OEM plastic chargepipe break all the time

    Great vid! How much power can the auto trans handle reliably? Is a dct swap also possible?

    • @Sheeeepz
      @Sheeeepz Před 3 lety +1

      I know quite a few of my buddies who have DCT swapped N54 and they are making over 7 to the wheels, so I’d say maybe 600ish, but I’m not that high on mine so I couldn’t tell you the cap for it, but I hear the DCT is an amazing swap.

      @ The Oxzion good to hear that bro I’m only trying to make 600wheel on my auto. If I ever want more I’ll definitely think about a dct swap then!

      @@FGNi-em9sb I’d say Aslong as you support the transmission, mine makes about 486whp, and it still feels smoother than ever, so I’d say do it, or see what you can do🤷‍♀️

    • @TruongMikeMai
      @TruongMikeMai  Před 3 lety +1

      DCT can handle a lot of power, all you need is XHP transmission flash and upgraded clutches. It'll handle whatever you put at it :) DCT swap is definitely possible ;)

      @ Truong Mike Mai that’s awesome to hear we have that option as well. How much would a swap from AT to DCT cost though approximately?

  • @christophercontreras476

    bro forgot to add the fact that you should not run one step colder, 2 step colder plugs on a stock n54. YOU WILL STILL GET MISFIRES. if your stock just use oem spark plugs by oembimmerparts you can also get the better Eliot coil packs there as well. use one step colder 2 step colder spark plugs when you add more power.
