moretry has recently released four 3x3 cubes in the tianma series. each cube has a different magnet positioning system (named single, double, triple, super). prices unknown.
basic cube performance and mechanism are reasonable. the hand-adjustable elasticity system is well done and the manufacturing seems high quality. however, underneath this skin-deep praise, i feel the cubes are plagued by a variety of very peculiar problems.
first, the stock magnets are extremely strong and risk alienating users. the m slice is very snappy and quite uncomfortable to turn. i cannot find a way to turn any of the cubes comfortably at full speed. it was either turn fast, lock up, and overturn, or turn much slower than i wanted. as a result, i did not enjoy cubing on these cubes at all. at many points during a livestream (where i forced myself to use the cubes), i found myself constantly saying that i'd rather not be cubing at all. i'm sure someone out there may be able to handle the magnets. that person isn't me.
second, the release of four substantially similar cubes creates a choice friction problem. not only are customers presented with four choices, it's not clear how some of the cubes are different and whether any model is better than another. i personally had a lot of trouble distinguishing the double and triple magnet models by feel or performance. the lack of information makes it difficult to understand the differences between cubes and further hampers the customer's already compromised ability to choose. packaging, marketing, and pamphlets help a lot here.
third, the manufacturer made the curious choice to release four cubes instead of making fewer with adjustable features. there is no explanation for why this is better or why the choice was even made. recently, cubes have been developing in a way that makes it so that the user doesn't have to buy a ton of stuff in order to create variation. deviating from this without explanation makes me worry.
all things considered, i'm really curious why the manufacturer took so much risk and chose to complicate its first speedcube release. if it were up to me, i would make the magnet strength more moderate. this captures more market and leaves room for users who prefer stronger magnets to add additional magnets. i would also include pamphlets in the packaging that explain the differences and qualities of each cube. not only does this make everything clearer, it can actually convince people who purchased one to perhaps try another. these are probably the only changes that can be made without creating significant costs.

Hello Phil! It seems to have something wrong with communication, we had emphasized the distributors that these cubes are just test version, which needs further adjustment.
There will be pamphlets to explain these differences in the package in the final version, but it's also our fault not to finish these materials in time.
Besides, the magnet were to be moderate, but unfortunatly these magnet capsules have some problems that we didn't notice before. Now we have changed that. And we have add pattern on center cap to distinguish the four versions.
We will send you a set of new version, hope you would like them.

Hey, there must have been a miscommunication then. I was never told these cubes were test versions. They looked professionally packaged from a factory, so I assumed they were final copies.

@@asmallkitten unfortunately cube for speed isn’t gonna learn his lesson. The blatant racism goes on and he treats it like it’s a fun thing. He thinks u unsponsored him cause he didn’t have enough subs. Clearly that’s wrong. People with less than 500 subs like Casey were able to get sponsorships. I think u know that he did a LOT of copying cuberazn without credits. You made a wise decision unsponsoring him. Otherwise he might disgrace the cubicle. Just to say when you and cube head did a battle and Cubehead became ceo (awesome video btw) he was like “ Cubehead was clearly roasting Phil but he has a lotta subs so Phil don’t dare unsponsor him” stuff like that. Although you and others clearly pointed out the reason of the sponsorship termination, cube for speed is still misunderstanding. He’s a disgrace to the cubing community. He hasn’t learned his lesson.

Great content, and a really interesting compliment to the video on the Cubical channel. This kind of marketing would certainly annoy me enough to turn me off trying the cube at all.
Though thinking about it, if I were going to justify having multiple cubes with different fixed magnet strengths, I would say that it avoids the magnet ticking that can happen in adjustable systems, which I know people sometimes have issues with in the WRM and Tornado. But if that was really what they were going for, they would want to have more variety in magnet strength (rather than strong and stronger). And some kind of interchangeable system would probably work better if a company really wanted to address magnet ticking.

Ya same thing I said on the cubicle video, the concept could work better with weak magnets since it should make a bigger difference between the versions, and get rid of at least one of the first three versions I’m thinking would be a good move.
And to another point I just thought of, less adjustability does mean more environmentally friendly if you wanted a marketing strat. Like gan sends multiple sets of things that you’re never going to uses after you set it up, MoYu has crazy amounts of replacement accessories…so depending what kind of a feel you want to go for, a concept like this could work out since it makes set up easier and less waste. At the same time, marketing them under different names would be a great idea as well…
