I think at this point a frame swap would be the easiest way to get it going again and I hope to do so with a Cummins Ram 4x4 but I think my dad had rather use a modern GM and make it an LS powered street and strip cruiser. Whenever I can find a donor truck I can afford, I'll try and make it all come together.

I was a mechanic for a long first career, the kind that people bring stuff to after other mechanics couldn't figure it out. Shoot, mechanics would bring me their stuff. Then I went to school after 30 and became a software engineer. I say all that just to say that I'd let Paul work on my stuff. I don't think I've ever had that thought about anyone before. More than just having a wide breadth of knowledge, which comes from experience, he shows a stronger understanding which only comes from hard study and intelligence.

Why I like FabRats and Matt’s off road recovery.
In High school in the 50s my friend “Leadfoot” worked at a welding and ornamental iron shop. I hung out there a lot and have many fond memories. The owner was a talented fabricator. He fixed cars and motorcycles and built a lot of interesting stuff including a C Gas 50 Chevy. The shop car was a ‘54 Ford wagon with a Cadillac engine and a Packard 3 speed “on the column”. The linkage was backward so 1st gear was where 3rd should be and reverse was where 2nd should be etc. We won a few drag races in that thing while pulling a trailer loaded with a bunch of welding gear. Good times. Your videos remind me so much of those times.

In an era of computers old iron rocks. I flew aircraft with big radial engines and we had on board analyzers We would come home from a flight and tell the mechanic ( now called Technicians ) what cylinder of 18 was not working right. Now someone plugs a box into a vehicle and hopes it tells them what is wrong. My new Murano has a rattle at low power but the box doesn't show anything so they tell me nothing is wrong. LOL

That year 1962 Chevy truck is same year when I was born. I’m surprised to see the old truck. I’m glad it’s still running! 😊

That’s the first time I’ve seen somebody use a timing light on CZcams, it’s usually a laptop! Love those old trucks!!

Great truck to start with. A kid learns a lot working on an old truck.

That was so nice of you to tune up that truck. Also, that is a 62 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4. That is a RARE truck. I haven't seen production numbers on this year, but a couple years after this, there were less than 100 3/4 ton 4x4's built by Chevrolet. This truck deserves a restoration, especially since it is fairly rust free.

I love those old trucks, I love the square body Fords and Chevys also. Someday I'll have another truck, soon I hope.

Sweet, a youngster into old American classic trucks. And yes a holley sniper EFI would really make that old truck run like a champ.

I love it that the old iron survives without the road salt, rain, and humidity. And I have great respect for a man that tunes by looking at plugs and using a timing light.

I learned to drive in that truck when I was 14.. 50 years ago. Drove like a lumber wagon. The no power steering was fun. And the V 6 would pull out a stump but got about 4 MPG...LOL
My old man drove that truck till it literally broke in half one night coming home form cutting wheat. A little over 3 million miles later I've never had a truck without power steering for more than a couple days. LOL

I like seeing those young boys standing there looking over the fenders observing and learning while you work. Some day you will be the one standing there leaning on your cane while they do the work
