thanks mate, the set was called "basic 808" so the standard 808 ACB model - and then i added some of the built in in drive/distortion effect on some sounds. kick&snare most obviously, but also the hats/clap/rimshot sound distorted. i can't tell exactly because i usually don't save the settings, i just use the same kit all the time and overwrite the settings, then record a jam move on. but it's probably just the drive effect that makes the main difference.
yeah its not the smoothest/versatile - however its nice to have a separate distortion fx for every sound. that would equal to 11 fx units as i have different settings for the sounds. i remove some of the harshness with the built in eq/filters on the tr8s - they are just available when you select the ‚drive‘ fx for the single sounds.
@@ErhalderYeah multiple FX per tracks is totally great, agree with you, for live playing and clean setup, this Drum machine is a no brainer, very powerful. The freqShift fx on 808 cymb or HH is fun to. I also use Saturator a lot on the 808 CH (+ decay drama playing 😁) Saturator is my fav fx . I think this TR is a beast, but for someone who came from a « straight » TR8, it’s a little bit messy at the first touch, a lot of shift every where and deep menu diving fx. But when you hard digg it with love, it’s became your center piece of your HS. I’m really happy you finally embraced it 😁
yeah i bought the 8S a few years ago, but never used it much as it always felt like operating a small computer with a super tiny screen instead of a hands-on machine like the old TR8. i guess roland did their best by adding a few shortcuts, so we don't have to menu-dive too long, but with so many settings, i have to take care not tweaking them too often :-D

Nice one. But I found the stock TR8S’s distortion to digital. I prefer when you smash it with a true dist pedal 🙂
