- One, two, three!
One, two, three!
You gotta know how to pony like Bony Maronie
Mashed Potato, do the Alligator
Put your hands on your hips, let your back-bone slip
Do the Watusi, like my little Lucy
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Need somebody to help me say it one time
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
You know I feel alright.
Feel pretty good y'all.
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Need somebody to help me say it one time
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Dance with me honey, like Long Tall Sally
Twistin' with Lucy, doin the Watusi
Gotta hold of your back, I like it like that
Do the Jerk, watch me work
Ah, do it!
Songwriter: CHRISTOPHER KENNER. "Land of a Thousand Dances" (or "Land of 1000 Dances") is a song written and first recorded by Chris Kenner in 1963. The song is famous for its "na na na na na" hook, which Cannibal and the Headhunters added in their 1965 version, which reached number 30 on the Billboard chart.
Wilson Pickett recorded the song during his first set of sessions at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, backed by the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. (He had previously recorded in Memphis.) His recording was released as a single and appeared on his album, The Exciting Wilson Pickett. The single became his third R&B #1 and his biggest ever pop hit, peaking at #6. In 1988 a re-recorded version by Pickett was featured in the end credits for The Great Outdoors (where I heard this song). In 1989, the earlier Pickett version was ranked number 152 on Dave Marsh's list of The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made.

Wilson Pickett was a soul music pioneer who turned songs like "In the Midnight Hour" and "Mustang Sally" into mega hits. On January 19, 2006, at the age of 64, Wilson Pickett died of a heart attack at a hospital in Reston, Virginia. You're up up there with the best of them Wilson, and your music lives on forever. Rest well.

My GOD these swingers are INCREDIBLE! There are swingers and there are SWANGERS! These people swung with something extra. (Like a flat of a sharp to a note) More of a SWANG than a SWING. Amazing!

@@Daniel-lm7bg I'd never heard of it! Thank you!
Let's face it, they had way more fun back in the day. Interactive dancing. Now all we have is a dark club vaguely shaking by yourself.
People were wild back in the day. The only difference is they were dressed better.
