I had a practice padlock like that back when i first got into high school. Never got locked out and was always able to get into someone's house when they forgot their keys with only a paperclip and a bobby pin but BOY does it freak people out a bit to watch how easy you can just skirt by their entire safety measure. Like locking your door is the universal thing that makes everyone feel secure at home and i bend down and pop it open in thirty seconds with the junk in my pocket.
I picked up this lock a few days ago from @CovertInstruments and I think this was the smartest way to introduce the hobby to someone. The picks are quality and my barbarian hands haven't mangled them so far, and the lock is exactly what you see here--and a good quality. Having the insides displayed like this has made picking more intuitive, much quicker, than I thought was going to happen. I've been able to adapt my approach from the beginning, to working without looking. The pick and the rake both work well and I'm just happy to see a little progress from day to day so far. Definitely investing in some more tools from CI. Lot of fun.
My school used a lock with this mechanism and the lock was for the tools room I brought one of the teachers and used a pick similar to the one in the video They later changed it that day
This particular lock is intentionally terrible. It's a practice lock so you can visualize what's going on. He isn't even actually picking it. He is reaching all the way to the back amd wedging the part that locks out of the way. You wouldn't be able to do this on most locks.
Almost makes me think, Uncle Roger would make good commentary on how ineffective some padlocks are. I somehow thinking, “what are you doing? Hiyaaa. That lock is more disappointing that Jaime Oliver fried rice, hiyaaa!”
I learned that some locks like this can be tapped w/ a hammer on the side while pulling on the shackle and they'll pop right open..... Some locks can even be rattled between the fence they're locking and they open just as easy. Great video McNally.... 😁👍
I got your kit from covert instruments. A lot of fun. Realized how quickly I popped the lock that these were made for being picked. But I’ve successfully picked 4 master and brinks locks since. Got the kit last night. 😅
I practiced on this lock, then immediately tried my door, which was shut before I was able to pick it open, locking me outside. I now know that my door lock has five pins and that fear and adrenaline are good for focus.
I would like to mention that i have the exact same lock and all it takes to open is rotating pressure on the cilinder, like put your nail in it and just… rotate

He's bypassing the pins entirely, and manipulating the gold part that actually locks the shackle. First unlocking the middle piece by pulling it to the right, popping it out of the first groove on the left side of the shackle, then to the left and out of the second groove on the right side, which allows it to open
So, new to picking, I kept accidentally doing this while fiddling with a rake 😂 I had no idea why about one in every ten times it opened I never had to turn the cylinder. Now I know
I bought some clear locks from yall and they all exploded during shipping like all the pins and everything where just loose in the box so I guess that's a wipe LMAO
They're a practise lock designed to show all the flaws. No shielding for yhis, Long pin stack holes for overlifting, wide sheer lines for cylinder shims. Loose shackle for locking lug shims. Weak lug spring for wrapping attacks. Etc....
Those practice locks are trash tho super easy to pick. Try that on a master lock even tho they trash too it’s an upgrade from those toys. Also how many shear lines are on those pins that plug turned with the shear lines above it.

Bruh I have one of these training locks, I realised you don't even need to pick them, you just put the tensioner thing in and rotate the keyhole thing, it just opens after some 10 to 15 tries, too ez, my mom opened it after 3 minutes, having literally no clue how to open them
Question: I got the Ergo Combs from CI and I’m having trouble with the locks that are printed on the combs. Any pointers? I’m a noob, so I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. Not trying to be negative, genuinely asking.

I believe those are all basic pins you can see there, its got no intent to be secure, and this bypass being left open was probably intentional.

Yeah these videos really made me realize just how easily locks can be bypassed. It’s only a “no” but not a “you can’t ever come in”.

Yes those clear locks tend to be insanely easy to open, this is still impressive, and I still want to own this tool.

I have a lock like this. Something happened to the point where for a little while you didn’t need to pick any pins.
I managed to open an FNG lock with another FNG lock. One broke by that same method; the lock barrel fell out.
Just encase my house in cement. There is no lock that will be unpockable. 😅
I think they changed the design, because mine (exact same) doesnt have enough room to move that rod.
