- Hello all, so meny crashes in Women's Downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Corinne Suter has a cruciate ligament tear like Petra Vlhova. for they both season ending
Mikaela Shiffrin has pain and a inner ligament injury, so she thinking in 2-3 Weeks she will come back. she will not drive races after Kronplatz, thats for sure.
Wishing all those involved in the accident a speedy recovery and a speedy recovery.

When you have six racers crash in the same exact spot leading to at least two serious injuries , that leads me to believe there was a problem with the course !
Its on two spots not in one.
Serious injuries in alpine ski have always been as nowadays as in the past, the courses have nothing to do with it . Both the Schwarz's & the Shiffrin's injuries are due to their technical lacks in downhill, you'd better stay out of speed events if you're not enough good . In this race Mikaela makes an elementary mistake being so imprepared in that easy turn, so...
I respectfully disagree with you Carlo. Mikaela Schiffrin, Corinne Suter, Michelle Gisin and Federica Brignone surely do not lack the technical skill to run the downhill. This happens every other year or so, where the course set has a spot where multiple racers crash in the same spot !

Bad course setting. No time to turn on that gate after landing.. Very dangerous.
Maybe, but the racers could scrub speed, if they want to, before that jump.
Pretty obvious - the left hander is too tight following a jump that long and steep. Watch every jump there. The degree of slope propels every skier just fine - if there was runoff and a less tight turn. It's too far to land, plant, then guide yourself into that tight turn. On top of that - there's literally zero runoff. Bad course design, period.
Having only one training session on this challenging course turned out to be dangerous.
Connie Suter got it worst and she hasn't even crashed. Just an awkward landing after a jump. Torn ACL. But she is a Woman of Steel, she will recover by next season.
7:00 was an amazing recovery. So scary.

those jumps look so fun except for the fencing in the way.
Suter tore her ACL without even crashing... This course is dangerous.
All downhill is dangerous. It’s the greatest sport in the world because of that danger. These supreme athletes go into it with full knowledge of how dangerous it is.

@@chadrew6 yes, it is part of the attraction. But that course is just too jumpy. Worse than Val Gardena.
This is a course where if you blink at the wrong moment you pay consequences. With some slight modifications with a snowcat this course could have been exciting and safer but these girls always are pushing it to the edge.
It's managent issue..Course does not seem to be right..

Yes, maybe the course was difficult. Maybe it wasn't. But it is not Wengen, and it is not Kitzbuhel. Such is the gap between the racers here, and those who plunge downhill on the great Alpine downhill courses.
It‘s pretty much the women‘s equivalent of Wengen and Kitzbühel. Certainly one of the most difficult downhill races in the Women‘s world cup. Seems like the jump was going farther than in the training, so people went in it with the wrong expectations as well.
There MUST BE an investigation and the course designers to suffer legal consequences as determined.🧐
Keep lawyers out of it…. Ski racing is KNOWN by all to be dangerous BUT the person (s) setting the gates need be mindful of danger…. And IF there is one spot on a course taking these pros down, then stopping the race to reset the gates should be an option (although the athletes who made it thru and did well will feel robbed…… Was it especially icy or sticky grabby snow ?????!!!!……. It’s a risky sport !!!!!

You can just stay home if you plan to slow down
Downhill is dangerous expecially if you are not a specialist and/or you run for victory. You can't easily crash at 100 km/h without consequences. There are courses more difficult and dangerous than Cortina. The racers have not fallen "all in the same exact spot ". Some of them have not "fallen".

That coarse is far too technical for the women to run
They have been running it for for 50 years by now.
The course was not particularly difficult, it was an average one. This is supposed a downhill event : dear Shiffrin you may be #1 in slalom, but you are utter crap as downhill racer ! She was the only one to make such an embarrassing ELEMENTARY mistake. Period
She has more downhill wins that most speed specialists on the circuit. I wouldn’t call that “utter crap.”

Shiffrin has 4 DH , 5 SG wins and 18 podiums in speed , she was a World Cup winner and World Champion in Super G, plus this year so far she has excatly the same amount of wins in DH as anyone. One. So no, she is not utter crap, she never crashed like this but I guess until you crash at least once, you are not a real downhiller. Now she is. She will be fine.
