If i remember right Boeing patented an artificial sun back in 1972. When i first heard about it i actually found the patent, quite worrying.
Kevin Smith, we have been seeing in use, one type, white light from LED bulbs. Not much heat but version 1 and 2 have produced enough glare and light to hide multiple partial eclipses for years, from our bianary system(planet X and friends). I first observed it in 2018. Chi holds the patents for the previous 2, did their launches. Maintenance and manning by I dont know who. Someone is flying support to them. They have sat at that ballance point 1/3 from earth 2/3 from the sun, where energy is not used for position holding.
Patenting the concept is still extremely far away from actually building the power plant to work especially in space.

Creating renewable energy isn’t the issue, storing this power is the issue (batteries).

There is no way in which this ends well. We have no way to store this type of energy to make it sustainable for powering the electric grid.

The chances of finding a new element that isn't highly unstable is very very small. The elements at the end of the periodic table are man made elements, they are short-lived and radioactive so they are of little commercial interest.

Not so with fusion, once the fusion starts it does release more energy than you put in. This is because once you achieve the plasma stage, deuterium atoms fuse with each other to form helium atoms. in the process energy is released in amounts that were predicted by Einstein, the energy contained in a mas is equal to the square of the speed of light, e=mc squared. Only a fraction of that energy is needed to sustain the plasma.
Unfortunately, containing that plasma and collecting that energy is the problem. However, fusion is only thirty yeas away, always, apparently.

The sun is not fusion. Fusion requires 110 million Celsius. The sun simply does not get hot enough to achieve fusion.
