    The reason Sims 3 cars are the way they are is because the open world would quickly become too real - introducing bad traffic and no downtown parking (or worse - giant parking lots and highways in the downtown). Which is why a Sims 3 car conveniently fits in the sim’s backpack. I think they made the right call.

      I dunno, I don't think traffic gets that bad in Sims 3. I don't mind the phasing on and off the roads because of the awkward car park placement lots might have, but if that wasn't a thing then I'd like them to pull out and pull in like normal. They still phase in and out of each other on the roads so heavy traffic shouldn't be problem for pulling on and off lots, only the placement of the spots causes a problem there. They still however, no matter what, should physically get in and out of the car like in Sims 2.

    the reason why the sims 3 is like that is because in the sims 3, lots don't have to be attached to the road. But in the sims 2, in order to place a lot, it had to be on the road. It's why they could animate the cars driving away and stuff.

    • @TheMya1988
      @TheMya1988 Před 9 měsíci +9

      Sims 2 can have homes off-grid, and when world building one can do that. Of course, you do need mods and CC if you want roads that would conform to homes off the grid (still more realistic than carrying your vehicle around in a backpack). 🤣

      @@Paramurasaki What I meant was that the game's performance suffered from the large open world due to the lack of optimization. Also, The Sims 3 offers more than just a rabbit hole experience, for example, Sims can go to the beach, the park, visit other families, pursue a career from the Ambitions expansion pack or travel to other open world locations with different DLCs. However, this was not the main argument I intended to present. I just wanted to clarify that the problem was not the open world, but the optimization. And because The Sims 3's performance is right on the edge, the lack of details probably saved it.

  • @NawiTheCore
    @NawiTheCore Před 7 měsíci +26

    Cars in The Sims 3 aren't really objects (at least they aren't treated as objects when Sims use them), but a part of the LOCOMOTION system. That's why they teleport to the road, they phase objects, and there aren't any real physics coded. They were done like that in order to speed things up for the open world. They had to sacrifice some realism, but it makes sense. If The Sims 4 had been an improvement over The Sims 3, they could have kept the open world and make cars more realistic, with things such as car accidents and traffic jams. But as we know, The Sims 4 simply decided to go back to Sims 2 closed world, without the attention to detail that made Sims 2 so special.

    • @Xegethra
      @Xegethra Před 5 měsíci +4

      I get why they phase on and off the roads, because of lots off the road and awkward placed car parks. But they could have still had cars driving on and off like normal if the game detects the room for it. And since they phase through other traffic anyway they can still pull on and off like normal. At the very least Sims should still go and get in and out of the car physically. They just teleport into them like sims 1

    Sims 2 is best overall. The little details matter. I remember my first experience playing the Sims 3, I went to the diner (in my old lemon), standing in the parking lot befire entering, another sim began to chat with me, while a car parks on top of me, as I continue to chat with the other sim. It was so hilarious! 🤣
    Of course, even Sims 4 fans would like to see even Sims 3's illogical vehicles, than the set dressing vehicles. Even Sims 1 had transportation vehicles for sims (although they could not operate them). School buses, work vehicles, taxis, etc. all first appeared in Sims 1, so that makes Sims 4 dead last for vehicle transportation (imo, Sims 4 is dead last overall).

      Actually I don't agree, they could still be implemented like TS2.
      Plus with the lot traits it could make so much sense, for example having a "no cars allowed" trait so not every lot could have cars.
      Also because of how "free" TS4 mechanics can be sometimes, I'm sure they could find a way to improve cars by making them able to drive on other surfaces than typical roads, like sand, grass etc!
      But I doubt we'll ever see cars in The Sims 4...

    • @Xegethra
      @Xegethra Před 5 měsíci

      Cars could be mostly like Sims 2, and a bit of Sims 3 where needed if getting to a lot is a bit awkward for whatever reason. As for cars parked on the roadside if they don't pull into a car park, then I'd be fine with traffic phasing through them if they won't go around them. They could also save the phasing for car parking spots not near the road but keep the pulling in and out animation for ones that are.

    I understand why the cars in sims 3 teleport to the main road from parking spaces or sims pockets instead of having them back into it, given the much more uneven lot terrain in sims 3 worlds, but they could have at least had an animation of the sims getting in and out of the car once it’s teleported to the street. Sims have to run to the street to teleport into the car anyway, so I don’t see why it wasn’t done that way. I think it was an oversight

    • @parrot998
      @parrot998 Před 2 měsíci

      It wasn't an oversight it was lack of care. Something you can see in most facets of the game. They just wanted to churn something out, and didn't care about it's quality, and I will still be perpetually aggrevated by how many people give it credit cuz Open World, even though the open world added basically nothing and led to a severely compromised experience on almost every level.

    • @51Boiler73
      @51Boiler73 Před 11 dny

      @@parrot998 horrible analysis, it was neither oversight or lack of care, it was time and tech constraints paired with ea breathing down their necks, the open world adds significantly to the game and would be even better if they were given the opportunity to let it fill its potential. sims 2 and sims 3 were developed by largely the same group of people so its not a simple black and white narrative, its simply a case of them overscoping the project (with a smaller team even) and wanting to do with the sims 3 what they couldnt with 2, and kind of tripping at the finish line, its a miracle the game even works as well as it does. i think sims 3 is able to reach its intended potential with certain mods, the whole idea is to be an emergent sandbox where random funny stuff can happen at any moment, i wouldnt call the game compromised at all unless you consider animated cars to be an integral part of sims gameplay, thats just me though.
