"Somehow, cable has returned."
Bingo! Full circle.
History always repeats itself. We’ll be riding horseback again one day. 😂
@@OutsideTheRopesyeah, beacuse cars soon arent going to run on gas, so more people will use bikes
@@OutsideTheRopes that I believe. One day we will face some cataclysmic event and humanity will reset 👍🏽
HES COMING
We spent decades dreaming of unscheduled interactive TV, and now we crave the TV drug again. This is so depressing, you end up in a constant stream of waiting for something better to come on.
This is so bad and depressing
Cable: “you could not live with your own failure where does that lead you? Back to me”
yup. i love it 😂.
these streamers facing reality that you need ads to run your product. and the millions of people realizing "cable costs too much!" yet now netflix and MAX etc. will all cost $20 and up each lol
So what you're saying is that streaming services are moving back to the TV model? Yikes.
my first thought
Cable model was always better .
I hate the man telling me what to do at 9pm on a Saturday night.
Cable "Streaming you could not live with your own failure and where did it lead to back to me".
This⬆️
My first thought was “for why?” but I would def have it on in the background
If any of these guys had children they would know parents usually just turn on their tv apps and just let them play all day continuously to keep they’re kids occupied.
That’s not usual that’s shite parenting that let the screen raise their kids.
@@Whatwhatwhat1135 There's 365 days in a year. 24 hours in each day. Do you seriously expect parents to entertain their kids personally for every single minute of the day?
@@chrisd848 see that’s just the type of answer you get from shite parents who like to blame everyone else for there kids behaviour
@@chrisd848it's not a parent's job to personally keep their kids entertained. At the same time, it's bad parenting to demonstrate to your children that the only way to keep yourself entertained is by watching tv.
Peacock already does this
So we moved away from the cable model to streaming because its big selling point was it would give the consumer the ultimate control in enabling you to be able to watch what you wanted to watch, when you wanted to watch it and without any annoying ad interuptions.
Only now the streaming services realise that they can't make enough money without some form of in built ad revenue so they want to go back to a cable like set up where they decide what content is showing on these specific channels to enable them to shoe horn in as many ads into the mix as they like.
At this rate, It will all just end up being a cable service packaged within a streaming service outer shell with the ad free tier prices going through the roof (assuming they continue to gives us an ad free option) whilst the ad based options are kept decidedly lower to entice/force more subscribers to chose it.
As a classic TV fan, I've used the channels on Pluto quite a bit over the past few years, particularly the Perry Mason and Andy Griffith channels. You're absolutely right. I often have this sort of thing on in the background while doing something else. It actually helps if I've seen the episodes so many times I know the dialogue as I can keep enough of an eye and ear on it to catch my favorite bits. Makes a lot of sense for Disney+ and the rest to have these sorts of features.
This is ridiculous. Who is frustrated by choosing what to watch? TV with no choice already exists. It's called broadcast TV
Jeez i can't believe how much props John gives to Shang chi
It was mid at best
@smithnresin9497 I disagree and others do too.
@@trianglesforsquares it was definitely forgettable. Just like everything else post endgame
@@smithnresin9497 Spiderman No Way Home was forgettable? That's a take....
I mean, it was pretty damn fun
streaming with no ads -> streaming with ads -> streaming random stuff with ads
This is brilliant from a retention point of view. Some times you don't want to commit to a movie but want a little taste. And choice is paralyzing sometimes.
I'm honestly excited for this it's perfect to have on while sleeping
You'll get bad sleep from it
Humans need silence and sleep for biological reasons.
No... no... you're right, it's pretty dumb.
Im an avid "have something playing the background" person and love it. while i scroll thru daily news and apps on my phone, i love to casually play a random movie or documentary on my streaming or cable. theres a lot of value in this strategy, this would be a great idea for disney
People who say "This is the same thing as cable" seem to have selectively forgotten or just completely missed the benefits of streaming over cable; cutting the cord infrastructure and the long-term contracts. This is a service that will generate more ad revenue to help pay for the GOOD shows they produce and will give another option of how to use the service. Win-Win.
Nope. I cut the cord for streaming for a reason. I don't like ads, I don't like them one bit. Plus I'd rather spend time finding what I want to see then have something giving times that I can watch something.
It's so 20th century
I throw on marvel as background all the time during house errands and boredom
So like 6 people from Portland and 5 form Brooklyn will sign up, where will the other millions of "fans" come from?
Samsung TV+ does the same, if you own a Samsung Device from a TV or Smart Monitor to a Z Fold5 or ANY Samsung Galaxy Device, then you have it too! It's AWESOME, HIGHLY UNDER RATED!
I hate ads.
My only streaming red lines are mandatory contracts and bundles. I can deal with ads, price hikes, password sharing crackdown, but only as long as I can drop it at will.
if I worked from home I would probably use these all the time
Well it streaming cable
I put you guys at night but its videos that I've already seen haha ❤
If streaming services want a bunch of views with ads they need to open up to everyone for free.
This
I can see this evolving into new shows first streaming on one of these channels before they are available to stream without commercials if you have an ad free plan. It's a nice loophole to force folks on ad free plans to have to deal with some ads.
Cool. Peacock and Paramount+ does the same thing, too.
Just shows that that there is no idea in Hollywood that Disney won't turn around and make it their own.
American laziness has reach new heights. If you want to have something play on in the background...the pick something and play it on the background. This is so pathetic.
I created a list of movies and tv shows on my computer? On a playlist playing nonstop in the background cuz it helps me to feel there is people living in my home.
However? Disney is desperate in doing what they are doing? The Verizon Deal for it? Will help them with their investors to stay at the end of the year.
Be cheaper to get people living in your home. And you could interact with them.
TV and media is not a cure for loneliness but it certainly can add to it!
@@MaxxRemKing1 -agreed! Not denying any of it on that topic. Cuz I love being with others. Thé problem is social media has made the new generations of people to awkward to be around others. OR?
It’s made them not be themselves cuz of what’s found online. Learned behaviors.
If I could be around people more? I definitely would. But money stops you from doing things which is why people torrent more than ever now. And why these crackdowns on password sharing for those streaming services has gotten toned down by charging you for it.
I think Disney Needs the money- they saw that people aren’t dating as much, the old generation of people probably told them they missed regular cable tv playing in the background of their home. And did this offer.
Peacock is done this from the beginning. It’s actually kind of fun going through the channels that they offer and re-watching some classic stuff.
To be honest, the hardest part of sitting down to watch something is finding something to watch
If I turned on the app and a movie was on. I’d probably just let it run lol
The circle is complete
I used to get the yearly subscription for Disney+, since it’s inception. Did not renew in November, with the intention to subscribe a couple of months a year. Still yet to need/want to do that. What will do it will be season 3 of The Bear.
John banging the drum for the greatness of ads seems odd.
Now a word from our sponsor
@@davidjames579 Literally Harry's ad right now
Ah man, I thought I was gonna be able to just get the Marvel stuff for cheaper, since I don’t really watch anything else.
I don't quite get it as a proposition for Disney+. I feel it works for Pluto TV as it's not typically premium content, to me it's fast food, low tier content. It doesn't matter if I see a Pluto show from the beginning. It's also kind of a mystery what you'll find on Pluto. It's like rummaging through a bargain bin with that lofi thrill. I don't think I want to watch a Disney show that way, and I already know what the Disney offer is, so I just click on the show I want. Unless the shows are enjoyably crappy.
Peacock does this with Harry Potter and shows like Law and Order and stuff.
Doesn't HBO sit on Harry Potter?
@@davidjames579 It’s on both streaming services.
Besides og Netflix max has been my favorite streaming period
Ray has a bunch of valid points in this video it’s crazy
I hope that it's a new tab on the base app and not a fundamental restructuring of the app.
Ray watching Comedy Central in 2024 to finally enjoy Seinfeld is crazy…
I already own all the good Star Wars movies so I won’t be paying for this 😂
Is this Robert Meyer Burnett on his tweaker account?? 🤔
@@OhitsGeo No because I own them on streaming and physical media 😂
I’ll watch it Only if it’s free like Pluto and ROKU
Not gonna happen.
It'd be amazing if that did happened. But I've no idea how they'd afford something like that as a buisness model.
Also my cyncial side is thinking that if they made it like the Pluto Model u are asking for, there'd be some kind of trade off. Part of it may be freaky and sinister with maybe even deeper ad monitiring and maybe a corporate version of PRISM or something. Or version two where they just have the stuff people want to see behind a paywall as a means of getting revenue.
@@TwinRiver100 Disney could unload the old & obscure to a ad supported free-view Pluto-Tubi type of streaming service….like the Ewok specials, some of the animated shows.
@@TwinRiver100 Just a wish and fantasy and know that a free version will never occur beyond a trivial 1 episode teaser on ABC app or TV.
@autecheee sounds about right. As far as not getting far beyond a trial mode as u said. 🤷♂️👍
Peacock has this. It is just like PlutoTV. I am all for it.
Never watched Pluto or tubi, I have youtubeTV and every other streaming service I will never turn the TV on one of these channels. If I want to watch something I will watch it.
Don't be surprised when you see reports come out that people are using more of their limited internet data caps which would result in either 1) people not opting to participate in these types of models or 2) people feeling forced to pay to have their data caps lifted (which I think is like $30 for Xfinity, currently), so the home viewer is ending up having to pay more out of pocket.
You know that streamer Max? I think they could benefit from something like this. They could call it Home Box Office.
Does this mean they will start using the “tv versions” of movies that are sometimes censored? 🤔
I don’t see why they would do that since it doesn't adhere to Network rules. Also if they did that i think way too many people would respond and get ticked off at them.
@@TwinRiver100 But since they are trying to get money from ads, wouldn’t they try to make the content as “ad friendly” as possible? On CZcams, if there is swearing within the first minute or so, then a video can get age restricted or demonetized. And when CZcams puts a movie up for free with ads, apparently some of the movies have censored scenes. I would not be surprised if eventually, streaming services try to introduce another tier that’s “less ads and uncensored” and have the lowest tier have more ads and use safe for tv versions of movies and shows.
I digg Engaget on reviews
This wouldn't work for me with Star Wars and Marvel too much because it's mostly movies. But I'd love this for say Fox adult cartoons like Family Guy and the Simpsons where there's a large backlog and they're short episodes.
Before it’s all over Disney+ is going to be $150+
$155.00. 5 more for add free.
@@tatitorodriguez376 An extra $10.95 to upgrade from standard definition HD, an additional $7.99 for UHD, only if you sign a 10 year contract.
Advertisers are desperate for eyes. I think ads are inevitable as a whole. The steaming model is proving to not be profitable. There is too much money not being made by NOT having ads.
Why we need that now
That is a good idea
Like john said, i put stuff on in the background so whenever i see a marvel movie in fx ill throw it on and watch a lil here and there. Ive never once went to a streaming service to put something on in the background. Long live cable
This is just cable all over again lmao
That you, Comcast? Lol
Every major streaming service should have this feature
Their gonna have to now.
Does anyone know why John has not spoken or even reviewed fallout or mention how successful it has been?
Why do you care? He receives a bunch of other stuff what a weird thing to care about, world doesn’t revolve around what you want kiddo, grow up
Rude shake my head
and X-men 97😢
He takes money from Disney and WB , fallout is not a disney show or WB
@alexu9696 he talks about the Boys thats amazon rings of power is amazon as well and xmen 97 is Disney which he hasnt mentioned
I think it will work for a lot of people. I just can't think with background talk, I can tune it out but then why have it on.
Are we going back. To the future ?
Disney+ is a pretty cheap streaming service for foreign countries. Like example sure posetive you can select pretty much every language on a movie or show.
But there are a lot of dubs they don´t seem to have acess to and there are a few shows that never got dubbed but could for the platform, a few shows got new dubs, some not. Ducktales 1987 got a new dub but Gargoyles that never aired in Sweden did´t get a dub that could bring in new watchers. But that is only one of my personal problems with Disney+.
Now posetive again a lot of old forgotten dubs have been brought out from the forgotten realm but it´s mixed, everyother thing gets one dub and then another becuse we sometimes got 2 dubs for some shows and movies so Disney+ can´t decide and take whatever, I don´t know thier logic.
I rewatch the marvel movies for comfort. 😔 my friends understand so they sometimes like to catch up on their end so we can be in a party chat while watching haha.
Nope🤳
Peakcock has this feature.
I think its connected directly to their cabel channels. They're also smart about it cuz some of the stuff on their fast channels aren't available on their on-demand section
We have come full circle
Kang trick us again
this won't make me watch more Disney + at all. If they had better shows/movies then I would stick around more.
ok
Brilliant. Why havent they done it earlier?😂
Well there used to be this thing called cable...
So should we all just go back to normal cable and run adds like normal. Everyone got on the streaming apps because Netflix exploded and now they saw it’s not profitable and now they basically want to go back to basics. So dumb.
This actually sounds like a good idea, because while the idea of normal streaming is very useful 1 of the things it kinda eliminates is the idea of causal watching, my biggest example is when I go downstairs to make lunch, nowadays with streaming it’s annoying to have to spend time searching on Disney+, Max or whatever to pick out something to watch, plus something about starting it from the very beginning each time just bothers me because it gives me the impression that I’m strapping in to watch a movie in its entirety when really I just want maybe 20 to 30 minutes of white noise while I eat, I don’t even need to see it from the beginning in those instances, and so something like this could actually be appealing because it brings back that feeling of classic cable tv that you could use for white noise instead of a true dedicated watch, because streaming just feels like too much of a process to truly be able to qualify as white noise, and so I kinda like this idea
I think this is a great idea. I struggle on streaming services because I cant choose what to watch. This would help me watch a lot more content (benefiting me and disney)
Then they should just have a “random” button
@@mgbomb11 well the issue with that is I dont want to watch like toddler movies yk. But if they had like “random action movie” or something like that sure
@@mgbomb11 kind of like the Ininite Improbality Button on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD?
as far as the toddler thing, I'm sure there’s maybe some parental control things that could be added for an account or check buttons for stuff you don't want for the Rabdomizer.
You know you can just choose to be a more decisive person?
How about something people would actually use. Like a playlist. I would love to be able to put the Avengers movies in a playlist and have them play back to back on a loop.
THANKS for this!! Um, how is this different from FX every weekend? Maybe the FAST service will be advertised there! Okay, this makes sense now!
way to double down on dumb
What stupid idea. I get Disney+ "free" with my cable and I STILL DON'T WATCH IT. The only exception is X-men 97'. I will never click on anything else on that stupid service
You can offer garbage all you want! It stinks to high heaven!
Sure. I'm totally looking forward to becoming a couch potato, brainwashed by commercials. 😉
But commercially, it does make sense for Disney.
If I want to watch EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, I put in my DVD with the original Version of the Film, not the Special Edition. 😊
It’s the same movie lol
@@ElmerPonceCastro Not the same. For someone like me growing up in the 80ies there are two different versions of the classic trilogy.
So Disney discovered cable programming. Hard pass on all of this. I already canceled Disney+ so this will make me never sign back up.
I get it for "free" with my cable and I would pay less not to get it because I don't watch it even if I get it for "free"
Well, for ppl without a life that's a thing. I guess.
I think it's totally garbage and I thought we got pass that bs.
Having a noise in the background is weird. Can't people think without it? I'd just find it distracting.
This is for people over 30s because they are willing to watch anything on TV without changing it because it's basically cable & their bored.
That sounds like my friends who are under 30 to who turn on anything and basically watch it cause their bored.
I'm over 30 and I hate the cable format. I just wanna keep watching my stuff ad free and whenever I wanna watch it.
@@nelsonc6173 do they not have any imaginion? Read a book, learn something, make something......
Seinfeld is NOT funny.. what’s the deal with these streaming services
👆😆i see what you did there. 😅😂
I unsubscribed from D Plus. What’s with the quality of content over there 😬
My cable gives it to me for free and I still don't watch it
this is pretty lame.
