Great video - just wanted to add that, in terms of wages, I think NZ has been catching up with Australia over the last few years. I just moved from Oz to NZ and I'm earning the same here.. The minimum wage in Australia used to be about $3 more per hour than in NZ a few years ago. Now in 2022 it's about the same ($21.38 p/hour in Aus & $21.20 p/hour in NZ).. I'm living in Queenstown right now and pretty much every single job pays at least $25 an hour. Office jobs in cities like Auckland and Wellington are paying around $25-$30 an hour.

My time in Australia is almost up. A few months left after almost 2 years being here. NZ next 😊
I'd recommend people work as much as they can in Australia because you'll likely never earn that much afterwards.
I feel like I've missed out. On that. I've earnt but also spent a lot here. Flaming booze. One good tip don't piss it away. Plus I struggled to find work in the smaller Cities. Hobart, Tasmania. Still here. It's up and down.
Also you see people live of of nothing. All depends on your character.

Wonderful video! I did a 2 year working holiday in NZ (2016/2017) and am leaving for Aus in 4 weeks for my WH there, so this was super interesting!
Just a note for anyone creeping the comments - the visa requirements in here were specifically for British citizens. Only the British and Canadians can get the second year for New Zealand, and Canadians don’t have the “only 12 months of work” clause.
Many other countries have different rules and regulations on amount of time you are allowed to work in New Zealand (for example, a friend from Peru and a friend from Poland could only work for up to 3 months at one job, and then they needed to find a new job).

Love the comparison of your working holiday experiences in both countries, it's very helpful :) I'm currently on a WH in New Zealand and love it! However, I think that as a British citizen you are sharing a very narrow perspective on the visa situation for NZ and OZ. Visa requirements are different depending on where you are from. British citizens are lucky to be able to apply for a visa whenever, get it approved straight away and also get a 2nd year visa. For most other countries that is not the case. There are usually only limited spots available every year, some countries even have as little as 100 visa spots and applications open on a certain day each year. So for anyone who's thinking of doing a working holiday, be sure to check the official visa requirements that apply to YOU specifically. This video gives the impression that it's super easy for anyone to get these visas, so just wanted to correct that 😉

29$ an hour?! You won't get that in a hospo or retail job in Syd - you were lucky to find something well-paid! Haha

Why should you have to choose? I’m doing Australia first, before I age out, and the New Zealand the year right after

    • @BackpackingBananas

Some people don't have the time off to take 2 years out, but I agree that doing both is ideal! In that case, I'm helping people decide which one they would like to do first 🙈

😂😂 I mean you technically could but if you ever left, you'd probably never be able to enter again (and get fined a lot)

Well at least try for the Canadian visa then 😅 and if it doesn’t work out, you can go to Australia
