How to use your Tricorder

- Hi All this is just an instructional video on how to use the tricorder. This is mainly for those who have received one. But I wanted to make this video available for everyone to see :)
I will be working on a full project video that goes into the details of this versions development very soon. Maybe even start writing a script in the next day or so.
I'm sorry for the delay and lack of content on this channel. If you follow my Twitter you would know I'm dealing with a lot at the moment and its taking up a lot of time.

One thing keeps popping into my brain every time i see this, and it's... that i wish Roddenberry would've lived long enough to see this. It would've blown his mind.

I was never that big of a fan of Star Trek, but wow! That an amazing prop! You can tell a lot of great work and detail went into making that tricorder work as good as it does! Great Job!

I dont know if this is possiable, but it would really be awsome to have some scanning functions. Maybe something like the flipper zero?
with some work that might actually be possible. Though space is really tight, wont be able to add much more.
If only all of humanity’s creative efforts were being put towards something this useful and this progressive instead of towards new ways to kill each other. Wow, what a world it would be then for us to live in?
I followed your Project from the very beginning and have been excited to know when this Tricorder will be available for the Public.
It kinda sort of is and isnt... Im doing limited runs of builds but not doing anything in the way of mass production...

@@MD_Builds Do you ever think you might offer this in kit form at a reduced cost; perhaps with files for the 3D printed parts and the custom electronics?
What would Airport Security or Customs have to say about this when traveling?
Prob ok as long as your phaser and ba’atleth are in checked luggage.
This is the most amazing fan build of a prop I think I’ve ever seen. Do you plan on doing another run this year? I saw on your link that you had paused, but that was in 2022. I hope things are better for you! ❤
Not this year. 2024 at the earliest.
Not only did the last run burn me out. I've also just lost my father. And I'm about to be dealing with a big house move. Things are going to be very chaotic for a while.
Best thing to do is register your interest on the rpf thread. And I'll be contacting everyone to see who's still around and begin the process when I'm ready.

Awesome creation. Great job on it's construction. I'm surprised you didn't find a way to incorporate a heat sink though.
Tbh it really shouldnt be required. its hardly a powerful speaker. Its just not a great amp chip. Ive already found a d class replacement from Ti, but its a different package so Its not just a drop in replacement. While a smaller package, its the same pin out.

Wow this is amazing. I've got a few questions:
1. How user configurable is it? Can an en end-user easily change the name and rank that appears in the menu (via SD, via reflashing, etc.)
2. If someone were to be interested in acquiring onr of these from you, would they be able to request minor customizations (such as changing it from USS Voyager to , say, USS Enterprise)?
End user can't change name as that's baked into the firmware. As is the uss voyager. It would be possible to change it with some programming. But then it's not the voyager tricorder :p

Remove the USB port, and add coils to charge wirelessly.
I hate wireless charging. It's pl woefully inefficient. So much wasted power.
@@MD_Builds "I hate wireless charging. It's pl woefully inefficient." I agree. If you do not want to waste power, a charger that makes contact is the choice, and maybe you can reclaim some power by generating it with the hinges. You may need a charging base to do this with style.
Still interested in a custom PKE meter if you have time and energy.

@@MD_Builds found it. Thank you. Was a little shocked of the price, but in thinking about it, it makes sense. Given the long process in making it, the custom building and the fact it is not a mass production device. Hopefully I can save up to get one eventually. At least I’m in the UK too, so I don’t have to worry about import fees lol.
Do you think in the future you might recreate the doctors medical tricorder, with it’s detachable diagnostic scanning module?
Always liked that one, Star Trek doctors were a big inspiration for me to study medicine.

As well as a lot of RnD already gone into them. But thank you for understanding that. Theres really no rush as well. I wont be able to start till next year anyway. So the best thing to do is leave a message showing your interest on the forum and ill contact you when the time comes to start another run.

Not currently. There will be another run starting next year. But all the slots are filled. Best thing to do is find my thread on the replica props forum and mention your interest. Then I'll come to you when I can as I go through the list

Do not taint you tricorder as it is very sensitive.

Just image if you put the same amount of time and effort into something useful? Maybe actually trying to build one that does some real functional scans and communication. Not a dis, you did an excellent job building a toy.
I build functional things too
@@MD_Builds It came off kind of harsh but very good to hear that. I used to build functional things too ... worked on very early USB prototypes. I wasn't trying to minimalize your talents. I kills me when I see people playing video games 10+ hours a day then complaining they have no money LOL. Sometimes I forget that not everyone does that.
