What is the shoot beside the fireplace for? We have a mysterious chimney leading to a scullery but no evidence of a fireplace opening at all.

The shoot is a chimney shaft that led from the small brick fire-box under a copper that was let in to the brick masonry block at the base. This shaft opened at its top end into the main chimney to the left that contained the kitchen range.
