  • Big thank you to everyone who have supported my airplane build assist through www.gofundme.c...
    I was in California earlier this month to continuing building the Mojosling. If you’re new to the channel, for the last fee months, I’ve been building an experimental aircraft called the Sling TSi. On this build episode, you get a summary of the airplane wings, the components involved including the flaps and ailerons.

    How about a little detail on how you seal up the gas tanks. Thanks!

    How are the tanks sealed and do they need a pressure test before fitting?

  • @flexairz
    @flexairz Před 4 lety +2

    Just cleco and nail the tank assemblies together.
    Geez, there will be a surprise for you then.
    What you pointed out as intake for the fuel was in fact the outlet from the tank going to the dual fuel selector. Your fuel left over was the return from the fuel injection system from the engine. Fuel is filled on top of the wing into the tank.

    Alright Mike you're build is my new favorite project to watch - I'm giving up on the Raptor, cool recycling of an Audi V6 Diesel engine but otherwise pretty impractical.

    The service looks very good if you need help. I'll keep watching until it's flying but I'm really interested when you buy the engine. I know a lot of people think any Rotax is too expensive but in the end, it you up there and not them. Great work and an excellent choice.

    I think I would opt for the extra tanks so I could fill up with mogas and not have to refuel as often, since it isn't available at a lot of airports. You could probably make a round trip without refueling for certain trips.

    Hey Mike, congrats on your plane I''m excited for you! So I have a few questions, does the manufacturer offer suggestions about build support programs, or how do you find them? Also, you mentioned in another of your videos that you travel from Georgia to California. Knowing that Florida is big in general aviation and driving distance from you, what led you to choose a builder in California? And last, it would be cool to see a video of your color paint design.

    So for those that don’t do the build assist is there a process for inspecting your work? If there were any defects or problems with the rivets it could be the difference between the plane being safe and airworthy or not.

    It looks very nicely made. My question from the UK is how about corrosion? Is it a higher spec. aluminium sheeting that does not have corrosion problems? Here in the UK most Socata aircraft like Rallye 150ST (now quite an old design) have that problem. Many have had remedial work done, years after manufacture, including spraying internally where possible with solvents carrying wax based inhibitors. Some older Cessnas have this treatment too. Wouldn't now be the perfect time, (before you rivet the skins in place,) to corrosion proof what you can?
    Very best of luck with the build. I will watch keenly.

    so I'll ask again...after you match drill components, do you de-bur the holes?...if not why not as EVERY other aluminum homebuilt I've seen says to de-bur all drilled holes...

    • @jeandassonville2664
      @jeandassonville2664 Před 4 lety

      Hi John, good question, The Sling kit is CNC punched with regularly sharpened tooling, leaving a very clean hole without a bur.and all holes are already the correct size. The match drilling removes very little if any material and so de-burring is generally not required. The reason we 'match drill' is to remove any tension in the skin that could cause oil canning.

    I wish everyone will use regular tanks like diamond does (czcams.com/video/HXck2JK-9sk/video.html). I have seen videos of fuel leaking from the wings. Wings flex a lot all the time. It seems to me that a much better solution will be to use a completely independent tank instead of the wings.
