"The filming location for The Siege of Firebase Gloria was in an area under dispute by the New People's Army (NPA). Director Trenchard-Smith remembered that the helicopters provided by the Philippine government for battle scenes arrived half a day late because they had been engaged in attacking NPA positions 100 miles north.
Inspired by his experiences from two tours in the Vietnam War, Ermey collaborated with the director to write additional scenes for the film. Hauser also contributed to the film by crafting his character's dialogue, particularly in the confessional scene towards the climax."
