Rich isn't a word I'd use to call Latvia, unless it's like somewhat meant culturally.
As a Latvian, I think only Riga is rich because in Daugavpils everything sucks.

Kingdom of Jersika is a bit wrong. Maybe after the Christian crusades it might have been heavily subjugated by Orthodox Christian but it was a fully Baltic tribe, Pagan. In fact the last Pagan kingdom to hold out and fall to the Chrisitans.

In 1991, civillians stopped the invaders by blocking the streets with tractors, scrap metal and trucks and sat by them with weapons. In lithuania they tried the same, but resorted to blocking the streets with people. Far too many were killed. In latvia many were shot as well, including children going home from school

Latvia today is a second world country... people aren't hesitating to abandon their country and it's population is shrinking rapidly, joining the EU only hastened that and made it easier for people to leave the country. Not to mention the racist and nationalistic Latvians that sadly are also in the government.
