i hope twoset realise that although they don’t professionally play in an orchestra anymore, they’re doing so much for the younger generations of classical musicians. you have no idea how lovely it was to find a platform for younger classical musicians as it seems to fade more and more as a music genre because the majority is so focussed on the newer styles. and that’s okay, it’s just really nice to have that platform for younger generations, so thank you.

Jay W I think they were both in a maths tutoring after school class their parents put them in to get better grades, that's how they said they met. But that's beause they'were also both learning violin already at that time that they have then really bonded (I like how you assume it was Brett who would have been tutoring Eddy and not the other way around, they actually look like they were both A class students from an early age).

"I play classical saxophone NOT JAZZ" I wonder how many times she needs to tell people that lol
Lol, i thought the same
All her life...
I used to train classical sax and people would say all the time "hey play a little jazz for us". Lol, I could manage pop and contemporary stuff, but jazz was completely out of my range.
I guess classical sax is one of the least known Instruments - as she explained, there isn't much "real" classical repertoire for sax. Well, there are always the viola parts in wind orchestra...
@@altmail1572 yeah. one of my good friends is a classical saxophonist and was telling me that he doesn't like playing jazz (even though he is pretty good at it) as much as he likes playing classical stuff. and i'm over here as the flute player who solely plays jazz saxophone
You like jazz?
Everyone else: “hi I play professionally for blah blah blah and teach young musicians on the side”
Brett and Eddy: “I used to play professionally. I don’t know what happened.”
Humble pros
Minh Ngoc Nguyen not just only humble they really went out to their comfort zone to make people understand classical music and incorporate it again to the society
They do know, they just know too much. They know how good they are, they just thought they could be the best. You can see how discouraging it is when you see children who looked like they just came outta the fucking womb because they’re so young yet they can seemingly play better than them. They used to play professionally but they grew out of that. All their lives their parents brainwashed them into this idea to just practise, practise and practise, they had enough of that so they’re done. I’m not saying what their parents did were wrong because it made them very successful, but at what expense? Their childhood. They were the literal embodiment of Arima Kousei. There are literal embodiments of Arima Kousei in real life. Your Lie in April is sad because what happened in the anime can and also happens in real life. How Arima Kousei became a prodigy because piano was his life. Why did he stop playing professionally? Because his mom died. Why did Brett and Eddy stop? Because they realised. Brett and Eddy are really smart and intelligent. Their parents made them smart and intelligent and they know too much. Just like what Thanos said: “Knowledge can be a curse”.
Do you know what the literal literal meaning of the word Prodigy? Wasteful. So what does a person being a prodigy mean only literally mean? Exceptionally talented. The Latin meaning means something that’s bound to happen. So Latinally speaking, prodigal children are children where something is bound to happen, right? Child prodigies are children who are going to be famous.
Edit: grammatical error and spelling corrections

Yeeeeesssss this is the comment I've been looking for.... I stan Eddy hahaha
God yes, I thought all of them would ignore it and say "agree" but it went well
I remember wanting to play the flute and the guitar as a child. If music school had been available and free I sure as hell would have attended it.
@@expression3639 The only reason I don't think it would be feasible to have "free" music education is bc I went to high school in a pretty poor area and my school couldn't even afford a reasonable number of buses due to overpopulation (and every time they'd build a new wing it would already be too crowded again), let alone fund better music education. I think there are more important things that need funding than music, especially in poorer parts of the US, and this is coming from somebody who plays oboe and tenor sax. It's expensive as hell and not fair to the people who can't afford it, but there are things that could benefit everybody that I believe are more important, like not being crammed 35+ to a class.

16:56 “How do you express through music if you don’t know what to express?” Daaamn that’s a great advice actually. I feel like it didn’t get enough attention 😄
@gJb 1 😁 It's common sense. But 'great' when the sense for it is not so common. Some (e.g. students) dont truly know unless told so by others (e.g. teachers).
Eddy and Brett - you guys are paid to play beautiful music on your tours and in your videos. You *are* professional musicians. Just because you don’t play in an orchestra doesn’t mean you’re not pros. Maths (as a bassoonist figuring out where I’m coming in after 250 bars rest)
Patience (counting bars, long orchestral rehearsals)

Responsibility (the shame of forgetting your pencil for rehearsal can help with that eek!)

17:31 Eddy: "What's R&R?"
Spoken like a true Ling Ling
Lol as an Asian it was never occurred to me that music could be a “career” because how I brought up and the stigma around it. It always looked as a thing you do as a hobby or as a “side earning” when you have another stable job. Which kind of made me sad because I love playing piano, I love performing, it has always been some day dream for me to actually go around the world playing the piano classically but there’s no way I can do it now. People might say “it is never too late” but reality sucks man.
Edit:
Wow, I didn’t think I will get so many response and it’s actually endearing that so many people has been through and thinking the same thing as I did. You are not alone!
I really appreciate all of the response and I’ll try my best to personally reply each of it with my own thoughts. It has been a really insightful and touching for me to read through the replies.
I’m sure all of you meant well, however I’d like to say that I’m not saying this because I’m being pessimistic or “giving up” on my “dream”, I’d just like to point out how growing up, as a children and even as a teen it never crossed my mind that I “can” be a classical musician, I know classical musicians exist but it just never occurred to me that it is an option (does it makes sense? Haha) and I think a lot of people experience the same thing, thus making music career less approachable for kids (I mean, I even dreamed to be an astronaut when I was young and other “irregular” career-- but being a musician was never crossed my mind although I love playing piano)
As I’ve already said in a reply below, I’m an engineer in my late 20s and I love my job. Although sometimes I can’t help but wonder how life would turn out if I’m a classical musician, as it seems so different as a life as an engineer. Sometimes part of me wishes I was one, when I went to classical concert and such (do you get it? Haha) I didn’t quit playing music altogether. I still do some small gigs and teaching young kids occasionally. Being a professional classical musician is just a day dream of me, something that I always wondered but not something I “have to” achieve. It just something that I keep dear in my heart.
I wish everyone luck in your respective path that you’ve choose or wish to take. Best regards.

As a musician, this hit me HARD
this is why child prodigies often don't impress me or move me the same way that a seasoned pro does. I know I’m obsessed, but Eddy has this way of talking which has the sound of thinking (I know it sounds weird 😓)
Agreed
I know exactly what you mean! And I agree too! I’m working on explaining things the way Eddie does 🤣

ahahahaha yes!!
Who is Erin?
@@Vanessa-dx7dy She's a lady that enrolled on one of jubilee programs odd man out. It's the one about "who's not a vegan?". she argued many tines that she felt that a contestant wasn't a vegan because they had done something not strict vegan. So she says many times "that's not vegan" and it end up as a joke between the fans of the program. If you have the time check this episode later, it's quite entertaining.
6 professional musicians yelling at me to go practice is extremely intimidating. I guess I better go practice.
Man, I don't know what's making me cry more, the fact that I relate to Brett and Eddy's parents disagreeing with their career choices (I'm taking fine arts) or the fact that Eddy said he wouldn't have met Brett if it weren't for music 🥺😭
I support your career choice! ( ; w; )/ ♥
I think for me, it's both. I wish I had a friendship like Brett and Eddy. And as an Asian, I could relate to that. I almost became a lawyer but now, I'm about to take multimedia arts in college.
And a great love story was born.
How do yall cry so easily lol
@@pauladal3968 because lacking support from your parents for your passion hurts too much especially if they often downplay that choice, and their friendship is beautiful and rare that one could only wish to have the same relationship as theirs
8:22 as a pianist i very agree with Alex, maybe i would even have put myself more on the disagree-side. In my experience, pianists seem to be able to stand a lot more pressure and concert anxiety than other musicians, who maybe are more used to play in groups or in an orchestra, so that they get more nervous when playing solo. I´m not a professional concert pianist (yet ;) ), and i also don´t really want do be, but over the years, when i was performing, i learned to control that feelings that stood in my way to a good performance. In my opinion, getting nervous just makes it worse and it doesn´t help your concentration at all. Last year, i had the opportunity to play Debussys 'clair de lune' in our every-year school concert in our townhall, and i wasn´t nervous at all. Not only that, i even enjoyed it so much, i completely ignored the audience and just concentrated on the music. It is very important to me to not worry about what mistakes could happen, but to look forward to having a nice and fun concert. Maybe you will think of that when performing yourself ;) just have fun!
Greetings from Germany
dhtp music yea it’s like super stressful, because when you play a wrong note in an orchestra, it’s fine, because the other instruments will cover it up, but when you miss a note on piano, everyone notices .
I used to play piano. Maybe I was so bad because I literally can’t even talk with people in only somewhat comfortable with without a stutter and it’s even worse when I do any type of presentation. (Fml i take a class that basically social skills cause of this)
Can't agree more! It is very stressful that we cannot hide our mistakes
I’m 15 and play the Tenor Saxophone and for as long as I remember I have been in love with classical music , even people at school have made fun of me for it because I love it so much. I have always thought since I play the Tenor Sax i will never be able to play classical music. Yet, the classical saxophonist in the video gave me inspiration however, I still have no idea where to start to becoming a classical musician. Maybe someone could comment under this comment and help me. You would be greatly appreciated!!
baka • I will !! Thank you 💓💓
❤️ I play Alto sax. Seek out an instructor in your area
Ella Jeffres I will look into it if there are any in my area because I live in a sort of woody area if that makes any sense
Maybe things have changed. But in my day, you were never a tenor saxophonist. You were a saxophonist period. That always also could pay a standard clarinet. Whereas a clarinet player may say they specialise in one saxophone. Whether in an orchestra or a stage band, we all had at least 3 instruments beside us, though usually 4. And like in the Bolero, sometimes you would switch mid piece! Not all orchestra's are huge! Start with knowing your genre of instruments! Though keys are different, notation is the same!
A little late to the party but many music teachers (including myself, although I am not a saxophone player unfortunately) are teaching online or have begun teaching online in the last year. Perhaps that's a way to find a classical saxophone teacher if there isn't one in your area? Good luck and the best general advice I have for you is to listen, listen, listen! (To decent recordings of the kind of music you want to play)
"I used to make play music professionally, but I don't know what happened"
Dang Brett. don't be so hard on yourself
Did everyone else go "awwwweee" when Eddy said he wouldn't have met Brett if it weren't for music at around 10:00?
Of course ! x)
That was so cute

How come I feel like Brett and Eddy roasted themselves in the introduction… Well I mean, they are still playing professionally, but just in a different way!! So please don't roast yourselves Brett and Eddy and we love you!!🙈🙈🙈
Lowkey was surprised when they pulled out a sax player we have never been very included in classical music only things like jazz so respect from me a fellow player
100% agree.
It doesn't sound classical
HopefulDavid you should listen to Otis Murphy he's my favorite classical sax player
The oboe chick was busy ;D
I love how Eddy explains things. His voice is soothing and convincing. I wonder what happen with that Eddy when he's making videos only with Brett. Hahaha....

Friendship goals right there.
My family can't really afford lessons or an instrument, even though I'd love nothing more than to learn the piano or violin. I know I wouldn't get to a professional level anymore since I'm a teen, but I do feel like it would have been enriching in my childhood and it could still be enriching in my future. I'm very sad that my school didn't offer classes to learn instruments or after school activies. I guess it's difficult to realize, but it would be quite nice
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a really big family so there isn't much money to go around. And my school doesn't offer any classes because they don't have much money either.
Same, I think I would have genuinely enjoyed playing the piano, but because of our financial situation, I don't think I will have the opportunity to truly hone my skills. I am in my teens and my parents do not think playing a musical instrument is some sort of priority anymore. Besides, I think they will just let me focus on academics ( My parents are not fond of supporting the idea that music interests me. I understand the financial burden, but imposing in me the belief that my life should revolve on my studies is a no-no. It's kind of sad.)
@@jieceldiaz0340 sorry if this sounds blunt as I'm typing pretty quickly. U could get a job to buy a few £hundred (equivalent) keyboard and start learning on that. It's not gonna be as good as a piano but should be touch sensitive and give you a good starting point for a while.
Sad, I live in Hungary, where music schools are very cheap (you can get a sponsorship) and If you choose to play professionally, you can go to a music high school (which is free).
I know this is a year later.... but just to encourage you...
My mom wanted to learn the piano when she was a kid but her dad died when she was young. So, the family, although not poor, didn't have extra for things like piano lessons. (My grandma, who never remarried, had 6 children to raise. The oldest was in her early teens and the youngest was only 5 at the time). So, when my mom went to uni, she paid for her own lessons on the organ. :) She's not a professional but she can tinker out a tune on the organ and piano.
I also know of another gentleman who went to college to take business or something -- totally unrelated to music. He experienced a life-changing event that led him to want to become a musician. He started taking music lessons as a freshman at uni and he graduated with a music degree. He became a music professor at a small college and taught piano and other music subjects. He also taught piano tuning. He is an AMAZING musician.... and he only took lessons during those 4 years in college and then practiced 40 hours a day. :)
So... all that to say -- it's never too late to learn.... and you can become a pro. You might not be the youngest pro in the world... but you can do it. :)

real talk tho: near the end I kind of glimpsed what kind of depth their love for music must have, in order for them to dedicate so much of their lives to it everyday and find so much fulfillment in the dedication after all is said and done. like. man, I hope I love doing something that much someday, you know? this video made me straight-up yearn for the feeling that looking back on music and how it's affected them must give these people skdhsjhssj.

As an art student I can relate to many of these things. Many people think all kind of art should be free, and creating art is only a hobby. Not a real job. I have studied art related studies almost 9 years, and still people are thinking I'm not studying a real profession. My family doesn't support me either. I hope people learn to appreciate different career choises, even though they don't see the importance themselves. Without diversity this world would be a grey and a dull place to live.
Yup. Don't let the lack of support get you down. Find your own community.
