Painting a grim dark Chaos Knight for Warhammer 40k, without an airbrush

- This is IT!!!
Finally we are putting paint to plastic and finishing of the Chaos Knights we started a few weeks ago.
I deem this to be a relatively simple enough paintjob with little flair or fanfare but the end results are dark and grimy and quite pleasing to my heretical eyes.

it looks so great! I love the colour scheme you've made with this! Chaos knights are easily the cooler faction compared to imperial, they've got space vultures!! #letchaosreign
Couldn't agree more
the most charismatic man in the tabletop hobby
Oh my... you make me blush
Followed Most of your instructions and got something very similar but different. I love how my knights look! Thanks.
Awesome that it helped
Thank you for making this video
Thank you for watching it
Looking good
Thank you
Your voiceovers are mesmerizing
Thank you very much
I love the result. And now I think chaos knights are the best knights.
Oh boy I agree with you there
Already loved the blue-ish green ones, and now this? thanks now i have issues choosing between them for my own chaos knights! Love the work you put in them to make it look so fantastic!
Thank you very much for the complinent and glad it inspires and irritates in equal measure
Looks amazing. The only issue is I keep trying to blow of the black specs. Then realize it's not on my screen.
Came out great. Love the different approach to dirty grimy looking knights. #letchaosreign
Thank you very much❤️
So far, the best video how to paint a chaos knight: easy, simple with a great finish
I thank you... that is what I hoped to show and truly glad it came across
Nice amd grimey. Exellent work.
Glad to hear from another who favours the grime
Absolutely fantastic, as individual models and as a unit. The whole thing just works beautifully, from the color scheme to the execution.
Thank you very much🥰
The night looks absolutely wonderful, keep up the good work. #letchaosreign
Thank you very much... I shall attempt to do so
Love this and going to use it as a base for my chaos knights
Awesome to hear really happy to inspire
I love the way the knight looks like its on fire! Like the fires of hell are burning from within, awesome job! #letchaosreign

Thank you very much
Love typhus corrosion. such a good paint
It does it's job so well
Very inspiring and insightful. Well done, definitely gonna try out this for a base weathering scheme. Well done!
Very glad I could help in some way
@@MoustacheandMinis Always looking for new recipes to try out. Im starting Knights soon in grimdark, I'm always looking for new recipes and techniques to try when working on something new
Chaos or imperial knights?
@@MoustacheandMinis House Raven, I can drop my Instagram if you like
By all means
#letchaosreign i'm only halfway through the video but it's already looking really nice. I like the shoulder pads alot. The orangy theme is awesome
Thank you very much for that
Love how they look like they've been in the Eye forever and the paint has a patina look to it. #letchaosreign.
Thank you that was the plan...sort of
@@MoustacheandMinis sort of is usually the best of plan.
Cool minis
Thank you very much
Wow, that's a glorious end result! I havent painted at all before, so I'm nervous going into this without seeing how the rest of the model/war dogs are painted!
Hopefully this helps
Looking Great!
Thank you
That spill made me wince, paints can be so expensive #letchaosreign
Yup but at least I didn't lose to much paint
#letchaosreign
Thank you Jon.
Best of luck
This looks sick dude.love your work
#letchaosreign
Thank you very much, but I am sad to infirm that the competition is conckuded
Ah dam never mind. Still great work dude
Love the colour scheme you ended up with on this.
Never actually tried painting rust or corrosion yet, think adding the bright orange and bright blue colours to my paint job is too off putting. Gonna have to try it on my Knights though. Added texture to some armour panels and if it ain’t rusted, it won’t make sense… fingers crossed!
#letchaosreign
Hope it goes well
the knights look so good picked up some armiger war dogs a couple weeks ago absolutely love all the knight kits #letchaosreign
I agree, the chaos knights are getting more and more awesome
Your guys look great really enjoying the content since ive fount u #letchaosreign
Good to hear
I really like the look of the wear and tear you have managed to achieve Little different from the idea I have for the Choas Knights I have on route but definitely think I want to do something similar you have done to when i get my hands on Morvenn Vahl's nundam suite and possible paragon war suites. #LetChaosReign
Sounds great. What colourscheme are you going for
I am looking at using a themed 'corruption' using aggrelan earth texture on one side on of the panels to give it a cracked earth look then using Vallejo shifter turquoise violet as the main colour for the panels to give the warp corruption feel that is taking over the panels restoring them up to the cracked texture. The skeleton looking oily top half with the lower half / legs looking more rusted. That is what I planned and envisioned :)
Sounds really cool... truly hope it will go as planned☺️
I was wondering if you could help me with a question I have. When I dry brush necron compound or any other kind of metal based paint when it dries, it always ends up, looking gritty or flaky any idea why what I can do to prevent this? I definitely love this video. Can’t wait to apply this method to my next knight.
Well that can be the problem with many of the dry paints from GW. It can possibly help to have a slightly damp dry brush and flick most of the paint of on something non poruse so not a papertowel but perhaps a textured mat or something like that. Look up the drybrush videos from artis opus that might point you in a good direction
Great content as usual. So glad I discovered this channel. Loving your work!
I’m definitely gonna go for this look on my Chaos Knights. I loved the aged, rusted, antiquated metal look. I wonder how fast this would be with an airbrush.
I’m also thinking of hitting it with streaking grime instead of the agrax. What do you think about that?
Thank you very much and happy I could inspire
I would personally use an airbrush but since they were almost fully assembled I opted for a regular brush. Also I have not tried streaking grime but think it would be great
Thanks for responding. I notice that you put the time to reply to people and engage with your viewers. It’s much appreciated!
I’d recommend you try streaking grime out. It’s a game-changer. It is as much a game changer as washes are to someone who’s never used them.
I know... I have yet to order some as sadly no store where I live carry it.
Also not really difficult to respond to my viewers, at least as of now, since I do not have that many yet😁
Just subscribed. This channel deserves more subscribers for sure. This is quality production work, original ideas, and accessible to more casual painters. Keep it up!
Also, just out of curiosity, are you from Spain?
There's something deeply doom/black metal about the final color scheme and vibe you got going on with this one. #letchaosreign
I'll take it🤪
They look great I love the rust effects!...... What paint brushes do you use?
I use brushes from here and there... my go to brushes are Artis Opus but for this where I use such a large amount of washes and similar paints it is mainly big cheap brushes or army painter and citadel brushes inbetween
Did the resin keep the model on the base or did you glue through or on top of the green im lost at that part lol but other than I love it!
Glued on the base and then resin as well
@MoustacheandMinis thank you so much for clarification, I thought there was no way he saw this on a video from a year ago, lol
#letchaosreign well lets try our luck.
to a more serious question: Is there a particular reason you mostly use Citadel Colours? I mostly stick to Army Painter but wanna keep an open mind so i would like to know if it is just personal preference for you or if they are better suitet to a certain style of painting. Thanks, and thanks for the awesome vids
Well mainly because for a long while those were the only colours available here... but I am getting more from different sorces these days but still have quite a lot GW colours and most of them do there job. My favorite brands are Vallejo and getting a bit into scale 75
@@MoustacheandMinis thanks for the Answer. I dipped a bot into Scale 75 in the last few weeks but i cant really decide if they are for me or not
Perfectly reasonable, One person might love one manufacturer while another loathes it. It is all down to personal preferance and even one specific colour from one company might be your go-to for a certain thing while the rest from the line are a shunned... we all paint differently and use paint differently, sometimes in a big way and sometimes it just down to the moistness of the pallet brush or dilution of paint. Nothing is wrong per se inthis way just personal preferances and those can and more often then not should change over time
Where did you get the building rubble for the base? Currently designing my knights quite like these ones 🙃
It is from a sacristan forgeshrine
@@MoustacheandMinis thanks friend, you're really good at what you do!
Thank you very much for tgat
#letchaosreign I hope I win this lol, my hybrid knights army could use some spicing up with an actual chaos knight
No airbrush? Noooice #LetChaosReign
Well I wanted to demonstrate that you dont need an airbrush to paint knights like so many do
@@MoustacheandMinis Love how they turned out! Took me a bit to be able to sit down and watch through it. Gives me some good ideas on how I want to attack mine when things settle down soon-ish.
I think that spill was a bit shady
Just a tad
#letchaosreign
Hey I have another question. Is it possible to magnetic or do something so you can use a Warden as a chaos Despoiler knight and then use it as a Warden again? Hope you know what I mean
Weapons should not be an issue to magnetize... but to have it switchable to some extreme can possibly become difficult unless the entire armor panel collection is magnatized to be able to switch themes and looks
@@MoustacheandMinis so the Canis Rex box comes with the panels to make the various imperial knight and also has different armour panels for the chaos knight version?
Nope I never said it was so easy... itnwould be simpler and the same expendeture to make two knights sadly
@@MoustacheandMinis maybe I meant to say desecrater instead of despoiler
@@MoustacheandMinis the way they sell the knights confused me. Their website makes it look like there is a box for each knight. I embarrassed myself at a GW store when I asked for a Warden box. I was confused why they wanted to sell me the Canis Rex box instead. They didn’t mention that you can make various knight from the parts.
Mans painting knights with brush and i cant finish painting my starter setfor 40k xDDD #letchaosreign
Knights are suprisingly simple to paint... but have quite a lot of surface area
First :-D
