  • Hey folks,
    Lot's of folks wanting to know build components of the Argus Trail. Quick run down of components that I used. This is still a work in progress so there is some cable management that needs to be done. Also working out chain line issues and what not. Actually I just rearranged the cassette for better chain line. May upload a video on that. Component list is below.
    As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Yep, you get the same components and the same price and I get a small commission if you buy. Every little bit helps when making these videos.
    Thanks for watching folks. Subscribe if you want to see more e-bike, hunting, reloading and just outdoor stuff.

    This is exactly the way I’m thinking for a hunting bike,, 1000 watt , single speed to pull a small trailer ,, I haven’t started yet do to lack of info ,, but watching your video you cover all the info including problems with grass !
    Thank you for your effort an sharing

      If you are going to pull a trailer, you don't want a single speed. You need a mid drive motor and gears.

      Single speed your taking most all advantage away from the bafang md I would use 11 to 42 cassette then you have everything 7speed

    I own a BBSHD system on a Specialized Rockhopper and I like your choice of equipment. Definitely clean up those wires and get rid of the barber pole thing with the power cabling. I am thinking about a dolomite with a 3KW rear hub motor running 72 volts. I'm not sure that a gun rack would go over well in Los Angeles though LOL!

      I've cleaned it up a bit. Did great for a 12 days in back country elk hunt and used it again in KY for deer hunting. Climbs like a mule. The gun rack is now gone. So I'm good for now in LA. LOL

    I like the way that you did this bike and have an idea that would work for this to make it not only for long distance but would also put your chain back in line and also give you more power and speed to get to places. What you do is add a second tier to your back rack and then add a 750-1,000 watt batteries to the engine on the lower rack and open up where you the triangle battery pack then place a 49cc 4 stroke engine into that spot with a 3-4-5 liter tank for gas the 4 stroke does not need a gas oil mixture in the tank and then add a jack shaft shift kit that has the free wheel set up with it. It will go on the same axel that runs thrue the mid drive engine and allow for when the mid drive is not running it will still allow for the engine to run and drive the bike forward just remember to let off the gas when you shift gears and you can still use the electric motor for getting back to your hunting spot.

    Very interesting vid, I've got an old Cheapo regular one old fart horse powered mountain bike that I picked up off the curb/trash that I made into a hunting bike. Works great but that motor and battery would be sweet. Definitely going to look into a fat tire bike too. As for a trailer, I was blessed to find an old school 90s one piece plastic baby buggy on Craigslist for 30 bucks.. Nice lady was telling me about using it for her kids and grandkids.. she obviously had sentimental attachments, then asked me if I was going to use it for my grandkids.. I just smiled and said Mam, you probably don't want to know Lol... it's been one of the best deer carts EVER. The way its made the bottom acts like a sled when the wheels are in scrub over their heads, even going over logs. And I pulled my buddy around in it for quite a while hooked up to the bike on the hard ball.

    Looking for a fat tire snow bike to add a BBSHD on. Thanks for your review. I have built several e-bikes and one thing you can do is change out the front ‘Chainring’ to a Lekkie 40t or 42t to improve your offset for better chainline. The 40t will need a little grinding to the chainring cover. Even Luna cycles makes a 42t Eclipse chainring that has even more offset all depending if you have the room without hitting your chainstay. Getting a larger rear cassette is also a good idea if you increase the front chainring to improve your torque. Easy to switch cogs around to use the largest cogs for better chainline.
    Just a note: the screen on the handlebars is the display. The controller is in the right side of the motor near the chainring. I have upgraded my controller to get about 2 to 3 times the power up to 4K watts. Stock controller is a joke and the motor is so much more powerful than you could ever imagine. That would make that single sprocket a no brainer with the higher power. Thanks again for the review👍

    I have a tip for you. I keep my weapon on my pack. For archery I use a bow spider. And for rifle I have a Kuiu rifle carrier attached to my pack. That will eliminate a lot of issues for you.

      Do your research on hub motors. I think you'd be better off with the torque of a mid drive motor/kit. Install is easy on mid drive and about the same money when it's all said and done. But......hub motors may have gotten better on the torque end.

    How’s it holding up? In my state e-bikes are illegal in public so I’m just looking to get the Argus trail. Did you look at the dolomite Alx at all?

    • @bullet225ho
      @bullet225ho  Před rokem

      It's holding up great! I was looking to get the Dolomite ALX initially...WalMart did not have a large size in stock at the time. The Argus Trail came up on Amazon wharehouse at an actual lower price than I could have gotten the Dolomite for at regular price. So......Argus Trail it was. Great starting platform for sure. obviously you can upgrade about everything on them if you like.

    • @bullet225ho
      @bullet225ho  Před rokem

      Gosh, I'm not sure if i've tested it but I'd say in the upper 20's close to 30mph. Put it this way...it's fast enough to get in trouble really quick and also get hurt really bad.

  • @davidlorin1379
    @davidlorin1379 Před 10 měsíci

    Top speed, range? I'm looking to do same build on a Dolomite. I have a Bafang 1000w rear hub motor with a 30amp controller, but the motor is the wrong width (175mm instead of 190mm); I can get 34mph, battery life isn't so great with a 48v 24ah jumbo shark battery, but I'm sure a mid-drive will give better range and be more efficient.

    • @bullet225ho
      @bullet225ho  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Top speed on this particular bike is right at 30 with a 36t front and 11 rear. If your looking for top speed than go larger chainring. I'm getting really good range out of this one. about 50miles on a charge with all throttle at pas 3. I just did 11 days on back country elk hunt and averaged 4-5miles per day. I maybe could have done all 11 days on a single full charge but did charge once for about 3 hrs on about day 7. Did a total of about 55 miles total out there. either very steep up or down. very little "level" ground. Bike did great. Never needed over PAS 6 (have it set 0-9) I have not modded the motor in any way. I do have the cable to program....just haven't found the need. If it werent for me living at basically sea level and flat ground I would turn this into a single speed. My main use is for hunting. So......slow speed and I need torque for hill climbing. I had a buddy with me on the trip and he had a commercial 750w hub motor that runs 29mph on pavement. It was NOT up to the task that he asked from it.

  • @georose33
    @georose33 Před rokem

    To correct the chainline you need to get a bigger front chainring, 42T has an offset towards the frame. To make up for the gearing, upgrade the cassette to maybe a 11-46t. I would not try to eliminate gear from your current cassette.
