Mongoose Dolomite ALX Unboxing and First Trail Ride Review - Budget Fat Tire Bike!!!!

- Decided to go fat finally! This bike is a absolute beast and blast on the trails. Let me know what you would like to see upgraded on this bad boy in the comments!!!
Your adorable little helper was putting in some work.
My little helper for sure 😁😁😁
Very interested in seeing updates about this bike. Great video.
I still have it and it is honestly doing great! I need to do a update on it here soon!
It's a good thing you had your little supervisor there to make sure the bike was assembled properly.
HAHAHAHA She always keeps me in line! 🤣🤣🤣
I too am impressed with the build quality for the price. I left my noob cassette plate on for all lovers of the name “dork “.
This bike is definitely terrific bang for buck!!!! Dork disc for life! 🤣🤣🤣
I recently got this bike as well. Probably have about 100 miles on it or so. Been loving it! Excited to see some mods. Also, I had my daughter on trash duty as well when I put mine together haha.
Good deal man! I am really impressed with this bike. And Daughter's are great at that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great Video from the Speed Build to the Trail Trial! I rented a Specialized 6 fattie once to ride with friends that had just bought them. We’re talking thousands of dollars. I passed 😉 But like you said 500 bucks… I’m very tempted. They are building a rails to trails that goes right by my house. At this point in the construction they’ve just cleared the rails and left the large gravel road bed. I’ve ridden it on my Specialized Hybrid that I bought 10 years ago. It’s heavy as a tank but I’m doing it for the exercise so what the hey But it’s really hard on my butt. So that’s where I’m thinking that the fat tire bike would smooth out the ride considerably and that means I could start enjoying the trail now, even as it goes through the next few years of construction.
Thanks again for a Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it, Mr. Pete!!! I am still enjoying this bike very much and have upgraded quite a bit on it!
Just subscribed! Great video! My ALX is on a fedex truck heading for tomorrow’s delivery 🚚. Super excited to watch your upgrades videos 👍🏽
Ah yea!!! You will absolutely love it!!!! The upgrade video ended up being a little longer than intended lol but hopefully you find it helpful!!! Thank you so much for the sub!
Where did you purchase yours and what size frame did you get?
@@smdjuhurr9474 They are only available from Walmart.com as of now sadly
Just got my ALX and so far so good. I did have an issue with the front quick release axle though. Not only is the metal really soft but it was just barely long enough to get maybe two threads! The first time I hit the front brake fairly hard the screw-on cap flew off! Luckily I had a spare axle from an old Giant mountain bike. Better metal and plenty long enough.
Oh no!!!!! I wonder what that was about. Glad you had a spare and did not get hurt from the stock one!
Well now im convinced after watching this video I'm buying this bike comes in on Friday superstoked.
Very nice!!!! Still loving mine!
Hey man! Nice ALX, 37 lbs out the box is pretty good, I have the older Dolomite with the steal frame and had to do a ton of upgrades to bring down that weight (ish) haha still kinda heavy but a ton of fun, something about fatties that makes riding enjoyable, enjoy your new bike!
Thanks, John and appreciate it! I've definitely been impressed with the ALX! I Was pretty happy with the weight out of the box. It is beliw 35 now so I am very stoked over that!!! Definitely something fun about a fattie though! You are definitely right 😁😁😁
I got mine about a month ago, and I absolutely love it! It is ridiculously fun to ride, and is a great platform for upgrades. I was planning on slowly upgrading mine, but I went crazy and did it all in around two weeks. I shaved off a few pounds, and it is even more fun to ride! It was around $300.00 in upgrades, but it is still WAY cheaper than buying a brand name fatty, and it performs damn well! It is definitely one of the best values in the bike market right now.
It definitely is fun to ride for sure! HAHAHAHA I have purchased my upgrades now and ideally will have them all on here soon. Glad you are enjoying yours so much!
I get mine delivered tomorrow.
What did you spend $300 on?
I just don't know how deep the rabbit trail goes? I could afford a bike 3 times the cost of this one... but I see no real need for it.
However. 100% intrigued.
Shoot me a text at my business Extreme Hydro Flight in Saratoga, NY.
Maybe send some pictures and part numbers...

What upgrades did you get?
love your vids
you do AWESOME videos
very good review 🤓👍👍
Appreciate the love and thank you!
Bike looks like a lot of fun!
It is honestly more fun than it should be HAHAHAHA
You should add a dropper post, suspension fork, hydraulic brakes, and I would keep the 2 by if the chain is not coming off. But these bike is very impressive for only $500
I may already have a few of those parts ready to put on.... 😁😁😁😁 Definitely a stellar bike for the price!
I am really impressed with what you have shown so far with this bike. If you were to upgrade the fork to one with suspension would be great. Possibly a dropper post and hydraulic brakes also. Great review by the way!!
Thanks, Shadowchaos288!!!!! I really appreciate that! If you check out some of my other dolomite alx videos you might be surprised with what all upgrades I have done so far!!! 😁😁😁
@@chickensendies Thanks for the response and I will definitely watch the other videos.
@@shadowchaos288 Of course!!! Let me know what you think!!!
I'm considering buying one of these bikes. It's a good size and it looks very nice. The one thing i would do is add a mid drive ebike kit to it. Converting it into an ebike would make it a hell of a lot more fun to ride and the total cost to build one would be under $2000 depending on what kind of ebike kit you buy.
I know of a few people who have actually done that conversion and they LOVE it! HAHAHAHAHA
Love how you were giggling during the ride 😁
Sub'd
I legitimately had a blast hahahaha Appreciate the sub!!!!
I’ve never wanted something so impractical for where I live in my life😂
On a real note, I’m impressed with how many good components are on that bike. The giant tires, good drivetrain and brakes, and the paint all really impress me, and for $500? I truly feel like it’s a steal for the price😂
Right!!! Definitely did not need this but boy am I glad I grabbed one! 🤣🤣🤣
Where do you live this isnt practical ?
After 1.5 years of FAT ownership Id call these Uber Versatile + Uber Practicsl.
Took my 2019 45# steel Malus on several 20m road rides J4 Fun.
These rule on asphalt gravel sand snow u name it.
@@psalm2forliberty577 I live in northwest Texas, where there’s tons of rocks and long hills that take a toll on your body. I’ve ridden a fat bike around here and it sucks, at least for where I live. I’m not gonna say that fat bikes aren’t sick😂
@@SilveradoOutdoors0205
Oh yeah makes sense.
Like up towards Paris Texas ?
Hows gearing on your FATTIE ?
If a Walgoose - Mongoose stock gearing is awful.
36 Front to 28 Rear - makes hills IMPOSSIBLE with heavy bike.
On my Malus I converted it was 32 F x 42 R
Plus 9 speed not 7.
Thats an 18 tooth lower gear - it was a climbing champ after that...!
@@psalm2forliberty577 I’m more towards the dfw area, I’m about a hour or so north of Dallas. I’m really about a hour and a half away from a desert, so rocks start to become a thing here. I personally don’t own a fat bike, but my friend let me borrow his for a couple of days, and I don’t remember what gearing he had on his bike, I’ll haft to ask him again, but I’m pretty sure it was close to what you recommended. Just for around where I live, even though fat tire bikes are cool and they would probably be ok for lighter stuff, I mainly ride technical trails, and when I took his fat tire bike on the trails I normally ride, it destroyed my back, and was a pain to lug up the hills (there’s a bunch of them where I ride). It did do pretty good for the lighter more gravelish type trails, but I rarely ever ride those types of trails, so I just found it impractical for me, which is sad cause I love the way fat tire bikes look. Where do you ride your fat tire bike?
I have a Malus and a Juneau (which is being converted to an ebike), the Juneau is a huge upgrade from the Malus and very similar to the ALX. It's nice to see Mongoose stepping up their game. Their customer service is horrible, been trying to buy parts for over a year. I have given up.
They definitely seem to be doing good with their design/part choices! Sorry to hear that over trying to get some parts. Definitely no good there.
I slapped a BBSHD onto the mongoose malus with some hydraulic brakes, and it's a rocket. I would love to ride some trails like these on it.
There you go! HAHAHAHA
Some bastard stole my bike from in front of my gym today. The bright side is this will be my new bike.
What a absolute bummer..... But, I am sure you'll really enjoy this bike!
I've swapped the rear cassette with a 11-42 NX SRAM but I'm having some chain rub in the lowest gear on the bottom side of the chain so I'm going to pull the 2x chainring and put a 28t or cheap oval I have and see if that fixes it. All these parts are from a cheap Walmart hard tail I built up already. Reason for the drive train chain is there's a lot of climbing in Arizona to get anywhere. I have a tubeless tire for the front coming in and I'm hoping it fits at 4.8'' width, but got it cheaper than the $90 and up tubeless tires which is insane how much they cost. I forgot to mention I threw my 29er Tannus Armour inserts in there and took to some rocky terrain and seems to be holding pretty good. I would like to see any of the above and front air suspension fork to track better on rocky terrain. Even with lower pressures really rocky the bike bounces around it seems. Really run bike so far. Great in sand, rocks, and might head up north to try the snow before its gone. Great vid keep it up.
Definitely sounds like you've done some very great upgrades on yours!!!!! I am honestly very impressed with this mongoose and have been having a ton of fun myself! Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed the video!!!
You sounded like you were having loads of fun with it
Definitely try to always have fun on the trails! 😁😁😁
Frame looks nice, ALX would make one think it’s aluminum. I don’t think it is & I didn’t hear you mention. No front or seat post suspension. Thanks for including the weight, almost no one does!
It actually is aluminum! Fork and frame are both aluminum. Glad you are happy I included the weight! Appreciate it, Ralph!
Wassup, my auntie cray for what she just did she got me the Large instead of the medium let’s hope I don’t look dumb on it thanks for the vid very informative.
Hopefully it will be all good for you!!! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great unboxing video and good luck with all the tutus my daughter is 3yrs old. Lol. I can't wait to heal from my torn rotator cuff because so I can start riding again. I own 2 MTB, a 17yr old Iron Horse Warrior SE and a Hyper Carbon X 27.5 that I completely upgraded but I like this bike also the Ledge X1. Again great video and just one quick question, I'm 6' tall will I fit on the Dolomite?
She definitely keeps me on my toes but is a HUGE blessing! Could not imagine life with out my little girl.
With you being 6" I'd look into the Dolomite ALX and grab a size large and you should be solid there!!! I am 5' 10" and ride a medium.
Really appreciate it, Eric! I actually have some videos on a Ledge X1 I upgraded so feel free to take a look at those! I see you already found some of my other Dolomite content! Appreciate the support!
I had an OG blue Dolomite that tipped scales at 49lbs. I swapped out the stock tires for Framed Wolftrax 26x4.0 120tpi tires and instantly dropped 8lbs, all in rotating mass. It made a huge difference in ridability of what is undoubtedly a tank. Of all the things I did to that bike, and I pretty much did every trick available for them, I think shedding the rotating weight was the best upgrade, second being dropping the chainring from a 36 to a 28, but that was also too much for the megarange freewheel and bent the low ring on that. You might also look at running 27.5+ tubes if not converting to tubeless as they weighed considerably less than the OG tubes, but then again I've yet to see individual weights of the components on the ALX.
Definitely appreciate all the info! I actually already purchased new tubes to see the weight difference there and am thinking about tires eventually. Do you think a tear down/weigh parts video would be interesting?
@@chickensendies I think a tear down/weigh in video would be outstanding. I'm also interested in what the component difference is between an ALX and a Dolo/Malus as the stock brakes on those are lackluster at best. Measurements on BB shell and axle widths would also be helpful as Pacific went out of their way to use non standard spec on the earlier bikes. A lot of work-arounds have been figured out by the Mongoose Fatty community, but if you're willing to do the base work there's a collection of riders out there itching to get ahold of the ALX and start upgrading.
@@davedelarosa319 again appreciate the info! I was debating on doing a deep over look of this bike but was not 100% sold on if I should or not. I'm getting ready to upgrade it so might as well take it apart and check it all out and record it! 😁😁😁
@@chickensendies I'll drop word in the Mongoose fatty group I'm in that you're looking to do this and try to get you some extra views out of all this. Appreciate your willingness to take the deep dive.
@@davedelarosa319 Of course and thank you so much! You definitely do not have to do that but I really appreciate it!
keep the simplicity and $ of orig mechanical brakes- just an easy rotor and adaptor change in the back from a160 to 180 (and front if not already an180)... works great here in the SW!
I was honestly pretty impressed with the stock mechanical brakes! Especially for a fat tire bike!
Well, its good to know if you get flat tire driving to the trail you'll have 2 extra spares on your bike
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No lie! HAHAHAHA
I came for the bike review I subscribed for the name.
HAHAHAHA Stoked to have you Omega!!! 😁😁😁 Always feel free to reach out with any questions!
My first mountain bike I had was a Mongoose. That was 23 years ago :P
AWESOME Sprousa! HAHAHA!!! This one is pretty sweet!
Ya mine was to I got it on Xmas it was yellow I remember with thicker looking frame on it
@@ferguson8143 Mongoose definitely has been around for a bit. I love that people have memories of their first bikes tied to them. Very cool!
@@chickensendies ya I had it up to 3 or 4 years ago and it actually got stolen from my parents house along with another bike from my childhood that had a headlight on it and a little generator that touched the front tire and that is what powered the light
@@ferguson8143 Ahhhhh man..... What a bummer that it got stolen. But a light and a generator!!! That definitely sounds like mongoose HAHAHAHA
I’m interested in this bike but I may only do some light trails and mostly street riding around town but I wanna be able to run over anything.
Stock would be perfect for that type of riding 😁😁😁
37lbs is pretty tanky, my Farley 9.8 weights under 25lbs with Barbagazi 27.5x4.5 tires but jumps to just under 28lbs with studded Gnarwahls.
It it absolutely is! I got it down quite a bit with some upgrades! Still have it and still enjoying it as well 😁
I’ll have this bike in a couple days. Only thing I’m really hearing is that you’ll need to go in and grease all the bearings as there isn’t much grease from the factory. This will be my first fat bike and first bike since I was a kid. I’m stoked.
Actually my video next week is me entirely stripping it to the frame and showing all the parts and that goes into the greasing it! But, for $500 this really is a very sweet build!
Definitely be tuning in for that as I plan on doing the work myself. Just have to figure out what tools I’ll need.
@@78cooper78 I'll be sure to show all the tools then! I typically put a link to the tools I use in the channel description as well! Definitely looking forward to this build!
Ok so you know for sure these hubs & BB are open race bearing NOT sealed cartridge bearing ?
Ok, an idea ck for hub overtightness out of box.
If not too tight do ride for 50 + miles to seat on bearings then carefully pull axles & regrease with best quality waterproof Synthetic grease. Mobil 1 is a great one.
Id pass on Park Tools grease (popular cause LBS uses / sells it) because its not waterproof & spins out under intense wet + rain riding. Mobil 1 hangs on thru EVERYTHING.
This worked great on my 2019 Malus I rode it about 900 miles in ALL conditions.
Not that Id expect sealed hubs & BB for $500 but I can dream right ?
Going tubeless is a good plan.
Did "split tube Ghetto" method + 5 oz sealant / tire.
No more flats + 2# weight reduction.
I am definitely interested in going tubeless on this bike for sure!
@@chickensendies
Ill try to dig up the vvideo I followed.
@@psalm2forliberty577 Definitely! Ive done plenty of tubeless conversions but never on a fatty lol
The frame protecter on the right side where did you get thar?
That looks like a lot of fun! I would take off the dork disk and reflectors and upgrade the cockpit. Also, are you going to griffin bike park on may 1st because im going there for the 6 hour endurance race.
Yep! That stuff is definitely coming off! HAHAHAHA!!! Sadly I do not believe I'll be able to make those. If I can I'll be sure to reach out!!!!

It your ever going tubeless or those tires wear.I recommend the fat bike minions they are amazing
I'll definitely look into those!!!!
$600CAD from Walmart in Canada but resellers bought up the entire stock and now a year later you can't get them unless you are willing to pay up to $2000 from a scalper.
That is absolutely ridiculous..... Definitely do not give the scalpers that money.... Wild...
now im looking at this for a winter ride lol i do want a fatty for the trails when they get covered in snow around me

Just ordered mine in 17" frame. Im 5'9" w 30" inseam.
Loving the idea of Alu Frame, 36# weight, QR + 16 speed MicroShift.
Just sold my upgraded 2019 Malus to buy this.
LOVED that Malus but boy was she heavy steel.
Q: Does the Alx frame / fork have threaded holes for Pannier rack mointing ?
Helpful if youre gonna do overnight touring...!
I am not home right now but pretty sure the fork does not have any. I'll check though here in a few when I get off work. I am 5' 10" with a 32" on a medium so you should be about perfect on a medium!
@@chickensendies
Roger thank you.
The rear holes for rack (panniers) are normally above & near rear axle dropouts.
The 1st I ever saw a Fattie I was on the recreational trail from Breckenridge to Vail and 3 guys whizzed by me opposite all on Fatties loaded with F + R racks & gear. Obviously doing regionally touring overnight.
I was like those are ATV Mountain bikes !
This was May 2016
@@psalm2forliberty577 the 17 inch frame is the small frame right? How’s it been for you? I’m 5’7 ish and deciding whether I should get the small 17” frame because it’s the only size available atm.
I consider my Mongoose Ardor X1 with 2.6 inch tires a fat tire bike.
Only 1.4 inches to catch this one 😅😅😅 Ardor is a nice bike to build up 😁
It's a shame they couldn't keep these bikes in production because they have none of them in stock and I've been looking for one for quite some time
I am still riding mine and truly do still love it. Pretty wild imo how it has held up.... Sorry I am 2 years late.
I'm on your channel because I saw one of these in Goodwill today for $100 and was wondering if I should buy it. What do you think?
Also, what is the height and overall length of the bike? I can't find that information anywhere. I can only find tire dimentions. I need to know if this will fit in my Range Rover.
Sick c10 driving by. Lol
HAHAHAHA Indeed!!!
What size did you get? How tall are you. I’m 5’8. Would a M be a good size? Great informative review. Thanks
Hey, Mindof! I went with a medium and am 5'10. I think youd be fine on a medium! Thank you and glad you found it helpful!!!
I just got my 😃 how about you recommend a nice kickstand for this bike … something cool 😎
Well... Sadly I do not have any in mind for that... I am typically the guy who removes the kickstand and lays it on a tree HAHAHAHA
Upgrading to a sealed BB would be nice.
Is crank a typical square taper layout like Malus or earlier Dolomite ?
So this is stock with a sealed bearing square tapered bb that is 120mm. I was able to find a 120mm external bb to replace it and I have a video up of that as well now. 😁😁😁
@@chickensendies
Ok then Ill look at your video thanks.
A sealed BB really cuts BB uokeep / performance concers at bay.
And the Exo BB layout upgrade woukd require a new crank - right ?
Seems that would only make sense if you were swapping to a 1x system.
Agreed ?
And does IXF.have a crankset for FAT yet ?
(I put one on my Hyper 29 Gravel MTB.: Awesome uograde)
@@psalm2forliberty577 The sealed bearings absolutely do that! The bb I got came with a new crankset and I changed it to a 1x. Totally unnecessary upgrade as the bike truly comes with a great 2x set up with plenty of range. I only did it for educational and information reasons pretty much lol I am just really trying to see what all can be done to this bike. IXF sadly does not have a crankset big enough for it but I found a budget friendly option on aliexpress that fit the bill PERFECT!
I understand that this has a 120-mm BB width. How are you finding the much wider Q-factor? Have you ever tried a 100-mm Q-factor fatbike? If so, how do they compare?
It has definitely taken a little bit to get used to. I had a pretty rough pedal strike a bit ago due to wide pedals. I got some less wide ones and so far so good now!
Help me chicken sendies, you’re my only hope!
Hey chicken sendies, if you see this and have some spare time, I need some help with this bike and would absolutely appreciate if you answer some questions. I bought it and have been super excited to ride it. But I’ve encountered some problems. Keep in mind I’ve never put together a bike so my knowledge is very limited to what I’ve learned while trying to put this thing together.
The biggest problem is the front wheel. Do you have to use the quick release? The axle just doesn’t seem to want to fit between the fork dropouts. Since I’ve never put together a bike, I just assume that the axle is supposed to sit in the fork dropout and you put the axle nuts back on to hold it in place. The problem seems like the axle just isn’t long enough, that’s why I’m wondering if the quick release is necessary.
Also, I have tried to put the wheel on with the quick release, but I’ve run into the same problem, just in a slightly different way. So I must be doing something wrong.
One more question, if you’ve made it this far; the back disc brake is constantly rubbing against the brake pads, it still rolls when I rotate the pedals, but I can see that disc break rubbing the break pads, hindering the rotation of the wheel. Can I spread the pads a little farther apart to fix that problem? I’d really appreciate some help here man.
So for the wheel portion you should not have to use any nuts. The quick release is what is used to keep the wheel on with pressure replacing the need of any bolts. If you are using bolts that were on the wheel put those back on and tighten them to the hub. They go on the inside of the fork not the outside and work as spacers and keepingtbe hub in place. You can also place your bike upside down (seat and handlebars on the floor) to help with getting the front wheel on. Hopefully that helps with that part! The brake should have 2 bolts that hold in the caliper. You can loosen those bolts a small amount to move the brake caliper side to side to where it is not touching or just barely touching the rotor then tighten it back down. That should remove the disc rub you are talking about. Hope that helps you!!!!
@@chickensendies thank you so much! I’ll find out here shortly!
@@thomasgraham4821 Best of luck and you got this!!!!
Also the bottom bracket on this is 111-112mm.
The Dolomite ALX is actually 120mm bb. They changed it on these frames compared to the regular dolomite and malus.
Hey bud awesome video! I have a question for anyone that could help me out. I was told these bikes are also rate for big and tall people. I’m 6 foot 6 and 378lbs, with a 31-32” inseam (I’m tall torso). Would this bike be good for myself? I’ve seen non ALX on kijiji with 500lb weight limits. I wanna get into biking. Any help is much appreciated
Hey, Scott!!!! These are terrific for bigger people but I am pretty sure the weight limit is 350Ibs. If you are planning on getting it to just ride around easy trails and sidewalk/road I do not see any issues personally though. With your height you would most likely want a large though when they come back on stock! Hope that helps!!!
I wish this bike was widely available as it was my initial choice. Instead I went with the Northrock XC00. Where can I and where did you purchase this bike?
The Dolomite ALX is only available through Walmart as of right now and stock is pretty hit and miss as of now. But I got mine off of Walmart.com and got it in about a week from order.
Fork and stem upgrade? I’m looking for part 2 of this series
I have about 4 or 5 (if not more) videos over this bike on my channel. 😁😁😁
I'd recommend Looking up "Chicken Sendies Dolomite ALX" And they all should pop up for you.
Any larger riders have any experience with these? After my old bike died I've been trying to get a decent bike to get back into riding without dropping $2000+ but it seems like you can't find steel cranksets anymore and a lot of companies are using shitty pot aluminum that just shears off
There is actually a Mongoose Fat Bike group on Facebook group I'd recommend you to join and ask this question 😁 I am sure you will get so.e great answers over there on this question.
Seems like a good deal for 500 but now it's going for like 750 and seems like at that price you might as well just spend a couple hundred more and get a nicer bike. The draw of the mongoose bikes was that they were all a few hundred bucks
I definitely agree there! It is sad when prices go up for sure.....
I just ordered a medium from Walmart’s website for $498.00 with free shipping.
@J Marine Good deal!!!! That is the price it should be. It jumped up there for a while.....
Put a climbing gear on it. If so, does one need a new derailer?
Depends on the size.... But it is possible it will be fine with the original.
I like that fatty! I think it would look good with a big mud guard up front, like a big motocross lookin thing.
😎⚓👍
I've actually been looking for one but yet to find one I feel like would fit 😅😅😅
@@chickensendies get a crf50 one and Jerry Rig it on there.
@@TheCaptainsCog Not a bad idea!!!! Surely I could make something work!

There are a few things that could be wrong here. I'd start with making sure the brake cable is tightened in the caliper body. Sometimes in shipping the cable can come loose.
stem, handlebars and then just send it!
That is the starting game plan!!!! 😁😁😁
nice bike!! how does this bike ride the trails without a suspension fork?
It is definitely a little bumpy but with the fat tires it definitely helps quite a bit! I had a blast on the trails though!!!!
FAT tires typically = 20 psi max.
Tune ride by changing psi for conditions:
On smooth trails use 12 psi.
Bumpy rutted or rooted trails go with 8-10 psi.
Snow & Ice go 4-6 psi
Full asphalt road go 16-20 psi.
Gotta have a pocket digital gauge on ya.
Have pump w gauge along helps too.
@@psalm2forliberty577 great info!!!!
where can i get one of these? walmarts have no inventory!
Walmart was the only place these were sold new and inventory is very hit and miss. When it is available they tend to sell out pretty fast sadly as well.
How do the forks handle without any front shocks?
Not bad by any means! With it having such big tires they do a great job!
Where do you get it for $500? It is $598 on Walmart right now.
Sadly they bumped the price up. When it originally was released, it was only $499.
I have a commute that I have given up on due to traffic. However, there are lots of grass medians. Hmmmm... 🤔 Fatbike? Six miles one way. What do you think?
I'd say that depends on you. But, 6 miles is not terrible by any means and this would suit the needs of a basic commute to work and back perfectly imo 😁
@@chickensendies I actually had this bike in my Walmart shopping cart for a few days. Recently. Your video convinces me to pull the trigger. $600 now btw.
@@BryanLovejoy123 I've seen it's gone up sadly. Still a great bike for the price and I am sure you'll love it!
Can the height of the handlebars be adjusted?
You would be able to put some more spacers under the stem on the forks steerer tube to help raise it up! Of course if it isnt enough height for you new handle bars would be the other option.
Being 5’7 should I do a M or Sm size frame ?
You are right on the line of the 2..... I went with M and I am 5'10 and I feel like it fits me really well.
I tried to get this bike April 5, but Walmart canceled my order April 27 so I am done buying anything from Walmart.
Oh wow...... They kept you in limbo that long over it. Sorry that happened to you, R Nitro.
This ALX Aluminum Dolomite FATTIE is a Walmart exclusive model.
Just saying....
I'm 5'8 do think the small frame would be too small for me ?
You could make a small work but Medium would fit you better.
@@chickensendies I found a new large frame one for sale for $500 or I can get the small frame one on the Walmart site for $800 I can't find a medium anywhere so those are my 2 options !
What's the tooth count on the front chain rings? Also are the chain rings riveted or bolted together?
36/22
Yep, 36/22! But they are riveted.
@@chickensendies wish people would quit making videos of this bike. I dont have the need or space for but I just know I'm going to make a poor life choice and get one. Hope you can sleep at night :(
@@oklahotb3217 Ahhhhh man! Hahaha Well..... Considering the fact my wife and I just welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the world last week I am not getting sleep any how 😅😅😅😅 In all seriousness I am pretty impressed with this bike for $500!
@@chickensendies congrats on the baby!.
I've been able to suppress the cheap fat bike urge thus far. Free wheel, steel frame, and one size were deal breakers. This bike has removed the safeties. But my size is out of stock so I'm safe for now.
Where is that trail you're biking?
This specific trail is located by Robinson Illinois. Very fun cross country styled trail system!
I really want to get a fat tire bike. still recommend it?
Still got it and absolutely love it 😁😁😁
@@chickensendies awesome. I’ve been looking at this and the Argus. I haven’t been to into bikes since I was into bmx. really want to hit some trails. How tall are you? I’m not too sure about the sizes. Loving the videos.
@@michaeljennings Appreciate the kind words! I am 5' 10" WITH A 32" inseam and the M ALX fits me great!
I personally think for the price the ALX is very hard to beat!
@@chickensendies ahh! i see. also can you post the link to the pedals? wanted to check them out. gonna get this bike soon i believe.
@@chickensendies i meant to ask. where did you get your chainstay? link? if possible or size since i don't have the bike yet!
Where did you get it for $500?
Scalpers have raised the prices on Walmart.com currently. It was $500 new when it originally was released.
Who sells the alx?
Hey, Larry! Only walmart.com and stock sadly is very hit and miss!
Hey there, I just got this bike, but I have a problem with it that makes it unusable. I'm a noob here. I'm not the best at explaining things, but I'll try my best. When I try pedaling forwards or moving the bike backwards when off it, the arm of the rear derailleur with the bottom jockey wheel moves slightly and makes "popping" noises everytime it moves, then the arm starts getting pulled forward, and the chain loses its tension. Any ideas?
Hmmmmm.... I can think of 2 things Potentially..... the rear quick release is to tight which is not allowing things to spin the way they need to. Or the derailleur or derailleur hanger got damaged in shipping and that is what caused it. I am of course just going off your message and if I had it in person could probably help more than that. Hopefully it is just the quick release being to tight so I'd start with that!
@@chickensendies I forgot to mention, the right side of the "cage" around the bottom jockey wheel appears to be bent outwards away from the chain which may be the cause of this problem. Assuming this bent looking portion isn't intended, can it be fixed/straightened? (Noob question lol)
@@Alpienstern I see no reason not to try and bend it back carefully to help get it aligned better. Of course be very careful so it does not snap on accident 😬😬😬
@@chickensendies Yeah... I'm not going to risk accidently breaking it myself, so I am just going to take it to a local shop when I get the chance.
@@Alpienstern Always a good decision to do that! Hopefully they get you all sorted and you can be shredding here soon! 😁😁😁
Do you know the weight capacity for this bike?
I can not seem to find one on walmart or on mongoose. Sorry I can't be more help there!
@@chickensendies I couldn't find it either. Thank you!
@@Waylay01 surely it is somewhere...... I'll keep looking and if I find something I'll let you know!
Incase anyone else asks. The weight capacity is 350 per email response from Mongoose.
@@Waylay01 Awesome to know and thank you for sharing that!
A suspension fork
I am honestly super torn if I wanna do that or not...... I have a few in mind but can't seem to pull the trigger.
I think it would be worth it like that rocky place in trail you were on
@@bradbell4055 Definitely would smooth the ride out!
Shame the price jumped about $300. >:(
Such a bummer..... $800 is too much. $500 is terrific!
Shepherdchapel on YT explains whole bible God bless you
Considering those big tires, does it really need a suspension, would it be better or make a difference in the trails? I’m a noob at biking
So that is where I am torn! I do not think it does personally but at the end of the day suspension would not hurt it. But, with the big tires the rigid fork really is not that bad at all!
