    Rogue trader is awesome and you can tell Owlcat really did their research on the lore.
    I understand that Rogue Trader won't be for everyone since Baldur's Gate is much more main stream friendly. Baldur's Gate 3 is like watching football, betting on it, and maybe playing weekend fantasty football or a season chill league. Rogue Trader would be like playing a dynasty league for money where you play defensive players as well. Both are great and fun experiences but one is far harder to get into.
    I made the joke that it took me awhile to make my 4 chars for Solasta because at the time I never played D&D 5E. Making a character for Baldur's Gate 3 took no time at all since I've played 5E now, played a lot of Solasta, and it's just 1 character. The joke is that you need a doctorate to make a character in Rogue Trader as it takes a lot more time if you want to know what everything does. I bought both of Owlcat's Pathfinder games but never finished making a character and I might not of even started Rogue Galaxy if it wasn't for my love of the Warhammer 40k world.
    My friend wants Obsidian to take over Baldur's Gate series but im hoping Owlcat takes it. That is if they can continue making Warhammer 40k games as well.

    I'm seriously addicted to RT...loved BG3 and love RT. If Owlcat had the time and budget, with full VO, then RT would be the greatest CRPG ever

    • @torikazuki8701

      Well, like I said elsewhere, if it had been fully voiced, the cost would have skyrocketed and THEN it is very unlikely it would have had all the dynamic range of player choices it does.
      Since Player Agency is thde most important feature that defines an RPG, and that's the kind of game they wanted to make, with their limited budget, Owlcat made the correct choice.
      On a side issue though, one thing that would not be expensive today, would be easy to implement and I am positive would increase immersion, would be to use A.I. in the VO.
      Specifically, copy the Voice Actor's voice, then use A.I. to speak the player's custom name. Imagine how cool that would be! It's always just tad off-putting when you read the dialogue that has your name, but the actor does not say it.

      What you daid makes no sense. Not everyone cares about the lore enough to put up with this. Thankfully I'm one of those who absolutely love lore and happen to have time. People who do not have time or don't really enjoy reading lore dump after lore dump conversations are the NORM, its not about reading "skill" its about entertainment, and some people just don't play video games to read a short novella every time they load a save. This game is a gem, but its not for everyone.

    @torikazuki8701 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I'm sorry you don't like to read. As you obviously found out, though a great deal of the game IS spoken there is a tremendously higher percentage that isn't.
    The one comment I wanted to make about this, is that, the harsh reality of economics means that if you want an RPG that can actually BE a true RPG, you must cut back on hiring voice actors, or be prepared to make a VERY expensive game. Since the defining characteristic of RPG's IS Player Agency, meaning it's the job of the Gamemaster to create a world that the player then tells their own story THROUGH, if you're not doing that, you're not making an RPG. Like the 'Diablo' series. They have the external trappings of an RPG, but there is zero effective choice.
    Baldur's Gate, good as it is, basically proves the point- It was, by far, the most expensive game Larian has yet made. Imagine the incredibly fluid and open experience it would have been if it had been mostly text.

  • @mitchelcacciola8055
    @mitchelcacciola8055 Před 6 měsíci +5

    It sounds like Baldur's Gate was your first introduction to CRPGs. Honestly, I think that game stands above your normal experience with CRPGs. Most don't have full voice acting, and a TON of read dialogue. Plus Abilities are verbose yes, because it's a rule heavy game. 5th Edition is less rule heavy, but Larian did a good job of making things easier to understand.
    However this is Owlcat. Their games are rule intensive based on the TTPG it comes from. Rogue Trader is a d100 system, so a lot of percentages. Plus it doesn't even stick to the TTRPG very closely. It made, honestly, some good changes in simplifying some rules, but also took out a lot of the character customization as to not overwhelm people (so many backgrounds, homeworlds, character types, etc removed).
    If you try out Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous, your experience will be much the same. Those two games are based on Pathfinder 1st edition, which is Paizo's take on the d20 Open Rules system, which defined DnD 3rd/3.5 edition. (Pathfinder is based on the latter). It's very rules heavy, a lot of classes, backgrounds, gods, etc that make up your character. It has a slightly deeper character customization in terms of looks, but several races like BG3 make it a deeper customization than Rogue Trader.
    If you try your hand at BG 1 & 2, you'll find the experience much the same as here (just it's only RTWP, no turn based mode), and most CRPGs. BG3 is the exception, not the rule. Though I do hope more follow Larian's footsteps with BG3 (Divinity Original Sins 1 and 2 are also more akin to your regular CRPG experience)
    Also I almost tore my eyes out when you skipped dialogue...
    Oh and to note, BG3 works on an action point system as well. Action, bonus actions, and movement. As in all CRPGs, action economy is important, and needs to be thought about. AND on the note about Magic... if you use too much without having anything reduce your Veil... you end up summoning Chaos Spawn. So you can't just go willy nilly with your Psyker powers, else you're gonna have a bad time.

      It's not first, but i'm ex-pro Starcraft 2 player :) We playing DND every now and then with bro and sis btw :) So yeah, for me mindless button mashing is normal condition, and bg3 is definetly is a gem in genre. So thats why i guess best way to say about WH40k.RT "not for everyone". Still im enjoying it now few hours every now and then ;) And will definetly beat it. @@TheSpudKing yeah, I agree with the end sentiment that it's not for everyone. I would say that especially about CRPGs in general. And as a huge 40k fan, it is a very good primer for the universe, and really does capture the grim darkness of it.
      It's also good to know you're familiar with DnD. I feel that, even though very heavy reading is involved, Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous are going to be in your wheel house. And yes it is the same studio, so you can expect a fairly faithful translation of the rules and adventure paths those games are based on.

      Прошу прощения за русский язык у меня 9 утра и мне лень сейчас напрягать мозг, вспоминая английскую грамматику. Вы не поверите насколько патфайндеры просты на сложности Core и ниже. Все что вам надо знать, это цифры Атаки и Защиты. Обычные Атаки сравниваются с Обычной защитой. Атаки Касанием сравниваются с Защитой Касания, а обладают такими атаками - заклинания типа Ray. Атаки Исподтишка - Это Защита Врасплох. Все! Танкам растите Защиту, Damage dealer must increase Атаку, Маги упарываются в Уровневый контроль "Паутина, Лужа Масла, Обсидиановые лужи, Смех и прочее". Если хотите от мага урон, качайте его в Магического Трикстера и повышайте Атаку Касанием.
      Все. Банальная Гонка Атак и Защит.
      Не а SaveThrows... что вам непонятно? Есть спелы, которые бьют по Реакции, Стойкости и Воле. Чем выше циферка этих 3х показателей, чем выше шанс отразить эффект спелла, который бьет по этим показателям. Так как Совокоты перенесли настолку напрямую (тупость), то против демонов практически бесполезны спеллы, которые проверяют Стойкость. У них она от природа высокая.
      Гонка циферек. Прошел на сложности Core без пошага все бои. Игру просто стоит один раз понять. Врата Балдура 1,2 так то сложнее чем это, а там я частенько в детстве хотел пошаг. Тут же столько сражений, что нафиг пошаг в Патфайндере. Враги из каждой щели лезут

    99% of crpg’s will be more like rogue trader than bg3. That game is an absolute anomaly and ridiculously expensive to make. I think goinh forward we should stop trying to compare every crpg to baldurs gate 3 because most of them will not have thousands of fully voice acted cinematic cutscenes because they are just so damn expensive to make. If people are looking for choice based rpgs with bg3 level of cinematics and choice then maybe go for more action rpg’s like the witcher 3. Hell even in that genre it’s not necessarily the norm look at any bethesda game they have no cutscenes whatsoever. Another comparison i could make is arpg’s. Most of them are also text based and story isn’t even the focus there either. There’s a few exceptions like diablo 4 or wolcen which has cutscenes like most other aaa narrative games but it’s not the norm.

There has never been anything like it before and with its release there probably won't ever be something like it again. The cost of it is just to high. I can understand comparing mechanics and gameplay but the way the story tells itself can't be compared and it should be stressed that what rogue trader does is the normal way CRPGs are. Most CRPGs, as is in like 99%, are overly descriptive and reading heavy. It should be said you more then likely won't find a game like Bg3.

    Ha ha ha. The problem is not the Rogue Trader. The problem is that after Baldru's Gate 3, the rest of the games feel outdated. But really, BG3 is just too good! And I personally like Rogue Trader for its meditative essence. I'm not so much playing as reading a book with chapter animations XD

    Too sad, I like 40k universe but I can't read a game more than I play it... Pathfinder WOTR was pleasant because dialogues didn't have walls and walls of uninteresting exposition text (I hated Pillars of Eternity for that reason)

    well then crpgs are not for you. BG 3 is the only with full on VC. for that they gave up any consequence and made the story linear. I knew that with bg 3 we will get a ton of normies into the scene who know jack shit about the core of the genre.

    Sad to say that Rogue trader goes back to everything that made CRPGs soo niche and for just very small group of players. The production value is also only fraction of what you get with BG3. No Animations is ok. But less than 40% of the game is voice acted and the text dialogs - while having more options do not REALLY make more variety in the outcome. And considering all this - Owlcat is still charging players 49.99 - just 10 dollars less than a game that offered huge production value like BG3.
    For me - this is quite simple. 40% voice acting means I will wait for AT LEAST 60% discount. It's that simple. Owlcat games sadly failed to deliver and continue the revival of Crpg genre.

      Yeah, kinda same feeling, i will go through it one time probably, but i don't want to dive too deep. Stories and quests is interesting and atmospheric but... As you said, less options+voice over would be great for me ☺️

      Maybe its because Larian Studios are more than 100% bigger than Owlcat Games (over 300 employees Vs. 120 Employees) and had a very, very significant higher budget.. you know... to pay Voice Actors. Baldur's Gate also was in Early Access for 3 years.

      Ridiculous logic. A game of this depth for 50$ is a bargain. It's cheaper than a meal at McDonald's for a family of 4. People actually complaining about reading in a cRPG is just a sad state of affairs.

    • @ChristianHeid7
      @ChristianHeid7 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@MTLGSE Family of 4 needs to eat. Family of 4 does not need a CRPG. So lets call that out as the ridiculous logic it really is. I'm an old guy that reads alot and played all the golden age games back when they were released. But even I know that telling a story in 2023 in a computer game -- will never been done with 50.000 - 100.000 words without proper voice acting. It simply does not work. And we see the reviews and the lack of interest for exactly this reason. The genre needs to move on.

    • @ChristianHeid7
      @ChristianHeid7 Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@endymionsrage Agree - but then... why are Owlcat games charging this much for a game with much lower production value? And I do not buy this talk about deep game. The real value of gaming is to create something that players enjoy. And lets be fair. Their last game in WTOR has more bad builds possible than good. Some ppl think they are smart when they find the better ones. But most players just don't buy another Owlcat game ever again. And that's the reason Larian can make their next game without kickstarter - While Owlcat needs even bigger payments from the few that bother with their games.
