  • There's a crime taking place in the car world today. We aren't driving our cars! Specifically exotics, supercars, classics and more. What does that mean? Well for starters in means we aren't enjoying them and the other thing is we don't know how they behave after being driven for a while. Well today I am here to change that will my second video on "the Good, the Bad, the Ugly." This series aims to educate you on what to expect in terms of joy and aggravation while owning a luxury car and actually DRIVING it. In this episode I tell you all about our 50,000 mile Rolls Royce Phantom.
    Enjoy!
    Thanks for all your support so far. Your comments, views, and likes light a fire under my butt to always improve and bring you these videos.

      Oceans create more CO2 than all of man's inventions. However, the climate is being altered by geoengineering, which is man made, and that's what's doing the damage and creating the hazardous controlled weather patterns and fires. Look up in the skies once in a while at those chemical stripes intentionally sprayed. They are the culprit, not a Rolls.

I don't like Ford as much as Toyota or Honda but still he keeps saying it's reliable and it's not. Also only 50,000 miles and the seats are cracking and fading? He also keeps saying it ages well but the truth is they don't they age terribly when I see them I can tell they are old. Even if I can afford one I would never buy one I will just lease it and when it starts having issues trade it in for a new one.

Sometimes they help improve things on the car but a lot of times they're just gimmicks. I would still rather spend my yearly maintenance cost of a Rolls-Royce on a brand new Toyota that I know will last for years. Not trying to diss anyone or disrespect anyone and what they like but I can't find the sense in spending $50,000 on a car that only has 50,000 miles.

      He's still right BMW has vastly improved the over-all reliability of the RR ENGINE and how long it can actually run WITH enough over-priced maintenance. They are vastly less broken from an ENGINE standpoint than they were in the day. Still all the electronics are BOUND to be broken forever one day which is something that wouldn't have happened in a classic RR. People love to hate the Germans but when it comes to European cars they are the superior engineers.

  • @Entertainmentinc1
    @Entertainmentinc1 Před 5 lety +52

    dude this is probably the best RR review i have seen tbh. atleast you daily drive it but the bads are actually not that bad, i mean 50000miles on a BMW would get you a $50000 bill and as for the wheels and tires you can buy a set nice looking forged alloy wheels(obviously better looking and light weight) from Forgiato or Vossen ect for around $6000 and the tires would be around $2000, now thats a better deal than paying 12000 just for some overpriced tires cause oem is not always better imo.

    Nice Video. I agree you need to have deep pockets to own one of these cars. The maintance alone can be absurd compared to a mere S class but not as bad as some super cars. There alot more reliable than the old rolls royce but not close to being as reliable as an S class. I own both cars mentioned and others and the phantom very comfy and beautiful and yes when you go out in it. Its like its a special occasion. Did you know to get new carpets for an ewb phantom its almost 8K.

    The Phantom is a great car, but a pain in the ass to maintain. As others have stated, RR ended when they went out of business. THOSE were solid amazing cars. A twenty foot yacht is too big for.. anyone. This car was not designed to be driven.

The V12 engine is entirely BMW. I own a VW Phaeton which is essentially a Bentley with a VW badge on it. The trickle charger with the Bentley logo on it costs twice what the same charger costs without the logo on it. It is a CTEK charger which is identical and costs half as much. A Very good, honest review. Despite the legend, RR is NOT the best car in the world. Yes, It is a fine car, even an excellent car, but is is NOT the best in the world nor is it even a good value return on dollars spent. As a manufacturer, RR is overly focused on unnecessarily hand crafting luxury minutia which their advertising department then extolles to wealthy clients. The inference being perfectly crafted woodwork and leather are emblematic of overall vehicle perfection and bespoke customization. Yes, It takes hundreds of hours to hand polish and finish the English burle walnut trim, and to palpate and hand stitch the upholstery cow hides cut only from happy, grass fed cows imported from countries with no barbed wire... And the lambs wool rugs are personally selected and massaged for hours by trained craftsmen, each fluffy rug carved from contented little lambs... Such wasted effort, and misplaced energy. Why does dashboard wood trim need the extremely costly finish of a museum quality antique? It's a car dashboard, it will get hot, damp and crack like all the others in cars around the world always do, and in five or eight years, it will need refinishing. No amount of hand buffed French lacquer will stop that. Period. What possible quality does a lambs wool rug contribute to a car floorboard? Why is that expensive feature necessary when other more durable options are available at 10% of the cost? The honest truth is yes RR are beautiful, regal, luxurious and pretty well built cars. No better or worse than other luxury cars. In fact RR shares many parts with its parent company BMW. All things considered, Lexus or Bentley are probably better values and cost substantially less to maintain. The insurance and maintenance costs for RR are cardiac-arresting. Tuneup costs are about $4,000 annually and an oil change alone can be $650. Insurance runs about $500 per month. I remember calling my insurance agent once and telling him I had purchased a RR, there was a loud gasp, followed by a long silence, then nervous gibbering. He had to get special permission, and almost refused to insure it. And Depreciation? Don't ask, your accountant will need oxygen. While a great drive, RRs are NOT perfect, and have all the annoying problems of a Cadillac or Lincoln, or a Buick if not more- except the costs are hyperbolic to the absurd. $12,000 for tires due to idiotic RR engineering errors is beyond intolerable. Had this occurred in anything but a RR, there would be massive litigation and forced recalls. A thousand dollars for a fuel filter is predatory, and insulting. Even old money are starting to take notice. One billionaire I know told me he doesn't mind paying big money for high quality, but he knows when he is being cheated... Such as thousands of dollars for knick knack items like mirrors, clips, and plastic wheel logos... he basically said every rich guy is entitled to buy and have fun with a Rolls Royce... once... Then get rid of it and get a car with good inherent value. I agree. I am reminded of a story told about JP Morgan. When a friend inquired about the cost of his Yacht, he replied "If you have to ask, you can't afford it..." My assessment of a RR is: 1) They are best leased new, and kept for no more than 4 years 2) To afford a new one, you need more than substantial disposable wealth, you need to have about $2,000 extra dollars per month to toss into a money pit. Do not expect to get any money back, enjoy what it buys and what it is, as you go along. Then one day you will wake up and come to your senses 3) Be prepared to endure sneers, ugly gestures and rude people as you drive along where non wealthy people may be. 4) You may also have some unexpected laughs and fun, a rough motorcycle gang once gave me an escort down the freeway, they had a blast herding other drivers out of my way. After a while they waved good bye and went on their way... Delightful! 5) Don't expect any deals on anything at the dealership. Their attitude is you bought it, you knew what you were buying, so bend over and pay the piper... No whining allowed or sympathy granted. 6) When you drive the car, you will ONLY enjoy it on the open road. Traffic and town driving is agonizing. You will worry about parking and vandalism, so you will use it sparingly and rarely. 7) When you have passengers, you will worry about scratches, digs, high heels, crossed legs, muddy feet, and chewing gum on kids sneakers. Eventually it will become a garage queen. 8) It will have seal leaks, hydraulic leaks, hose breaks and cracks, belt breaks, transmission leaks, electrical problems, just like a Jaguar or Dodge. Plastic bits will break, window switches and motors will fail. This is why you want to be rid of it in 4 years or less.
    9) If you really want a RR, consider a well maintained and documented vintage model you can enjoy as a hobby. They have all the stately charisma, and not as many headaches. You still have maintenance, but it's a hobby piece, not a daily driver. It holds its value better, and can be fun.

It serves a secondary and even a tertiary purpose of keeping heat/sunlight out to minimize interior fading as well as obscuring a thief's view of packages you may have in your vehicle (that you should have placed in the trunk). Comes in handy during Christmas shopping.

    Excellent insight to this car. I've been looking at them for awhile as the prices have declined to close to $60,000 wholesale/trade-in, naturally more retail, especially for a low mileage, well cared for version. You have a beautiful example and have done a great job maintaining & caring for it. $7,000 for filters? I would think at this point, as a few others have mentioned, that you can substitute BMW parts on some items that are not proprietary, instead of buying from the Rolls Royce dealer and save, in addition to having it worked on by a knowledgeable BMW mechanic! I contacted Rolls Royce about the wheels and tires. In 2009 they went with a run flat 21" tire wheel combination and discontinued using the PAX system(car does not come with a spare tire). So if someone finds a used Rolls Royce with this system, 2004-2008, it would have to be pretty old in 2020 and probably need to be replaced, unless the previous owner has already done so. According to Rolls Royce, their dealers can sell you nine different varieties of wheels that will fit the 2004-2008 cars. Haven't gotten the prices yet, but you might also find them on a salvage car, EBAY, etc. Once you have the non PAX system wheels, the "conventional" tires are aprox. $1,500 for a set, to replace. One other item I haven't seen anyone address is the insurance to own this car. Since it's not twenty years old yet, I wonder if it can be insured by a classic car insurance company, or do you pay the standard rates? All of these concerns might not have bothered the original owner, who paid $320,000 for it, over $500,000 for the newest versions, but with depreciation and due to the fact that they're not driven like an everyday car, you might find a well maintained example for the price of a new BMW. Sure, it's an emotional purchase, because it's not very practical, a bit of a gamble, but very tempting!
