  • Quick and easy container from awsome sapele mahagony and maple for the lid.
    Now as the lid concept goes, its still needs refiment but overall quite happy with this.
    Let me know what you think.
    Enjoy

    This is my third video this evening. I have enjoyed them all. I finish my small projects with a mixture of shelac, alchohol and boiled linseed oil in equal proportions. It leaves a flash dry finish that is durable. Sometimes I coat this finish with a mixture of orange oil and bees wax. It works well for me. Thanks for making these videos.

    Simple but classic design. As always a great source of techniques to develop confidence in improving my turnings.
    I had missed it in January, but never too late.

    I enjoy watching your hollow form process. So many accomplished turners still rely on a forstner bit for the bulk removal. I am not surprised it takes less time to hollow with good technique with the gouge than the setup time required to attach the jacobs chuck with the bit and work into the endgrain, and then finally unchucking from the tailstock and getting back to turning.

      You are right, all that takes time which in production run you don't have often, so stuff like this really helps out a tone... Thank you very much for watching and support what I do 🤗

    Awesome as usual. Just an idea, could the bottom of the lid also have had a slight taper on the rim to give the lid a little more tilt when pressed to make it easier to remove it from the base? Just a thought for consideration. Man how you are able to hollow end grain and so deep is unreal! I only dream to be half that good!

      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Scott, I supposed that would be good idea to try out, I might do similar one soon, also thank you very much for kind words, key for hollowing is not to have too much tool in contact with wood and to have it tilt down.

    A lovely shape in lovely woods. Not sure if I wouldn't prefer a darker lid, walnut or scuh. I somehow thought it would be more of a suction fit when you started. It'd make an interesting tea caddy if it was. A thin strip of rubber in the lid might do that though. Thanks for another interesting, educational and entertaining video.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  Před 7 měsíci +1

      This is separate from tea caddies, tea caddies will have I hope one of those fits like you get on phone boxes where it just slowly goes down to close.... But we shall see how it behaves ☺️
      Thank you Joris very much

    Великолепно, Томислав! Просто и со вкусом! При работе со светлой древесиной я нашёл единственное масло, которое РЕАЛЬНО не меняет цвет. Это OSMO Natural. Даже на пол тона не меняет! На тёмной древесине появляется белёсый оттенок, что мне не нравится, но на светлой - супер. Если найдёшь это масло - попробуй, рекомендую.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning

      I would let it sit for as long as oil need to dry by manufacturer, unusually 2 weeks and after that ready for full use

    I’m wondering why that scraper is narrowed up on the right side? I’ve seen a number of box scrapers that are just the opposite which I thought would work better. Just wondering because I want to make one. Is 6mm thick enough? I liked that lid opening idea. I’ll have to try it. Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you very much for watching, not sure why is it on other side, me personal like this way and works great, 6mm should be ok for up to 3inch or so depth, anything deeper I would reccomend 8 or 10mm thick
