if banter didn't disconnect every 15 minutes it would be tolerable. otherwise the controls are mid and the lack of options/ customization sucks. otherwise fps and latency are nice.

As much as I dislike Meta as a company, their support is unsurpassed. My 2nd hand Quest 2 got the usual "burn out the USB-C" port, I contacted Meta, they replaced the headset, no questions asked.
Bigscreen and Valve surpass Meta support by quite a bit.
they've been horrible with the store though, I have money from gift cards on my account, but not enough for a game without a promo, but with a promo I can buy it, but it doesn't let me because I don't have enough for the game.

Temperature immersion, that’s a new one for me. I imagine that being useful for day / night differentiation, weather, or using a tool / weapon that heats up during use. Maybe even to indicate an injury or being hit by something.
I have tried a few little temperature haptic modules before and I don't mean to sound hyperbolic or exaggerative, but I firmly believe that temperature feedback is a WAY bigger deal for immersion than even vibration feedback.

Dude with temperature you barely even need actual haptic feed back, for example if you hug something hot or cold, it will feel like your hugging it even though nothing is pressing on your body. Also it’s makes you actually feel like your in a world instead of just seeing it.
With everyone hooking up their heating/ac system to apps these days, it could be very doable.
Fluid Reality is getting us close to Ready Player One levels of immersion.

Huh, that haptic glove solution looks pretty interesting in terms of finger texture, I wonder how that could work with the force-feedback of the LucidVR haptic gloves that you covered a while back. Combining fingertip texture and force feedback would be extremely immersive.
Imagine the quality or VR pr0n with that kind of thing, especially with the advance of AI imagery

Just something to note from the Fluid Reality paper: they estimate the cost could go as low as $150/glove if brought to the levels of production where you'd see them on store shelves! (I was the one who brought the paper to thrill's attention in the discord lmao)
They could in theory be combined with existing feedback modalities once they scale down the ribbon cables and overall size of the driving electronics (also mentioned in the paper)
@@geoterra9478$150 a glove for that kind of haptic quality? Hard to believe we might be heading towards that future, but it's so exciting that it's even possible!
This honestly makes me wonder if the "texture" would be good enough to function for Braille or without me googling to see if there is already something like this in place. I know it would not seem as useful as a VR tech until we can simulate seeing via different brain interfaces to help those that are blind.

3:39 The boundary issues are NOT just a you problem. Had the Quest 2 for about a year now, it is really annoying when issues like that happen, and replacing the whole thing can get annoying fast. Glad to see they are being fixed.
That fluid reality glove was an idea I had in the 90s after I played Dactyl's Revenge in the mall :) Glad to see it only took 30 years...but we're almost there!

I remember a dream I had where someone threw a fireball at me, I had barely dodged it and I remember feeling the heat passing by me, I woke up right after but the sensation that remained made me feel incredible "I dodged of a real fireball." first and last time I felt temperature in a dream, I would like to feel something similar in vr

The haptic gloves sound amazing. Its not cheap, but that's such a huge leap I'd probably still buy them once they are fleshed out. So cool.
That's the super early pre-alpha concept price, when/if they get these developed into a consumer VR product they'll probably be about half the price currently. I hope they do custom sizing tho, some of us have monster hands.

Yeah, I think it’ll be very affordable in a couple years time! Just depends on how long it takes for them to find the right balance of parts , labor and cost.

So I actually bought a quest 3 yesterday. Set it up last night and hopefully will get to dive into it tomorrow afternoon. I hope it's worth it lol.

Interesting because when I got my elite strap right off the bat for my quest 2 when that came out mine broke in a similar fashion to thrills, not snapping on the arms

Yeah, I had the won't charge issue with the elite battery strap myself. It's a bummer too, the comfort was great, now I gotta find something else.
Woah TIL one of my senior project partners in college went on to co-found fluid reality, small gloves small world!
fluid reality was at AWE this past year. all they had setup was the finger pad running through a few demos but it was really compelling.

Meta really has unparalleled support for their old headsets. My Quest 1 has been on life support for the last 2 years and the fact that it can handle Air Link with little to no issue running PCVR games has me really excited for the future of their headsets. I'll be getting my hands on a Quest 3 soon and I can finally put my Quest 1 to rest.
The Quest 2 has better controller tracking. Our Quest 3s have such terrible hand tracking even after several updates, might actually be a hardware issue so you might want to wait a bit and see if it gets fixed

6:55 I have the elite battery straps for both Q2 and Q3 launch dates. Never had any issues. People who had them break that was mishandling them. User error.

I got an htc vive audio deluxe strap on my quest 3.. really great idea
Also not sure if you forgot it but the Vive Ultimate trackers are out. So far they only work with the XR Elite and focus but they said it’s supposed to be supported for more headsets in a few weeks
I have them and the tracking in good lighting condition is on point same if not better than the V3 Trackers (better because less loss LoS because of objects in my room).
Also I am now able to use FBT in a bigger space in my living room as previously with my basestations there was no way to mount them without having cables everywhere.
If your hand was the size of a house, you could still feel something the size of an ant. Our fingers are VERY sensitive, so I get the feeling those gloves are just the start. Heck of a proof of concept, though!
Those liquid reality haptic gloves are incredible and I'm so excited for them, especially at that insane price point! I actually had to pause when I saw "raspberry pi" in the schematics because I was so excited.
2:46 I had an idea while watching this. I'm sure there's a good reason why it hasn't been done yet, but what about just having ferrofluid in the sacs and using electromagnets to actuate them? No need for a mechanically complex pump if you can just change the shape of the fluid through a handful of magnets

You’re not wrong to be skeptical about it
This is how they can afford to subsidize the headset. Problem is that for a lot of people floor plans are findable anyways (e.g. condo+public contractor info). Unless you built it yourself of course. Its hard to know how these consequences will pan out 10-20 years down.
I feel like the fluid reality tech could be implemented for use in braille in smartphones for the visually impaired, if the tech gets implemented properly
I was so excited because I got the quest 3 for my birthday and I was so excited especially because I just turned 13 a few days ago so now I have to keep up with all of the news!
Glad to see theyre still supporting and upgrading the quest series. I always love seeing my quest homies get a boost.
Now if only the $1000 pro had a decent mic for social VR or "meetings and productivity" since that was their marketing pitch. Had to get a refund and send mine back so i can get an index instead. Quest 2 is still the king of standalone.

i’ve seen some videos that the quest three can be used outside and has a max limit of 25‘ x 25‘ boundary. But I read somewhere that if you turn off the guardian you can have unlimited space I’d love to see a video from you on the power of this possibility for immersion

Hey Thrill. What do you think of Resonite? I don't see many people talking about it, which is a shame cause it's an incredible piece of VR software. If you remember Neos, you'll know what I'm talking about. Resonite is being developed by the same people that made Neos, except for that one guy that put crypto into it.
So yeah, Resonite is essentially Neos, but without crypto and I feel like it needs more coverage. The team behind it deserves it.
Resonite is awesome! I haven't spent much time in it though as I've been in unity more than in games lately, but i did hop into resonite for a while and its basically neos but better which is awesome!

I wonder how long those fluid haptics are good for, knowing that eventually flexible materials eventually wear out, unless of course it returns to the original shape using vacuum.

Great vid dude :) I'd love to see you make a video on the realities of the Quest 3's pass through. They kind of sold it like it would be this awesome AR experience with little apps all over the place and watching movies etc and in my view it needs an enormous amount of work to get to that place. I don't feel that anyone is really covering just how much is missing from the passthrough experience to make it really work.
In my view, the absolute number one thing Meta should be focussed on for the Quest 3 is Quality of Life updates for MR. For example, disabling the boundary (which is nessasary for non-native Passthrough apps as well as seated experiences where the edge of your desk is also your boundary), for some reason also disables native passthrough (makes zero sense), meaning you have to keep switching that on and off from the Developer settings.
And they need a complete rework of their web browser. I want to detach it from my actor, scale it, rotate it, duplicate it and most importantly stream Netflix or other services on it (currently Netflix doesn't work at all). Oh and they need to revert the change that made CZcams go into some cinema view every time you hit full screen. I just want it full screen in tablet mode. There are other browser options on side-quest and none of them are good for streaming services (even reality-browser), plus this is added friction to the user experience and should be something that works the moment you put the headset on.
The web browser will be THE most important app for Mixed Reality. It's the very thing that will sell the dream of placing all these little apps around your space. Apple are going to completely wipe the floor with Meta in that space if they don't focus on normal lifestyle stuff.

I bought a 3rd party battery pack for my quest 3, and from what I've herd, you should definitely get a 3rd party battery pack and elite strap like me, they just last longer, and are more comfy.
finally on a tuesday LOL
