Why The Age of the Earth Matters More Than You Think

  • Many people today think that Genesis is an ancient book that isn’t important and many think the early chapters of Genesis about the origin and age of the earth are not trustworthy. Many people think that it doesn’t matter what we think about evolution and millions of years. Dr. Mortenson presents some of the Biblical, moral, and scientific reasons for believing that Genesis is vitally relevant to what is taught and happening in our world. What is ultimately at stake is our view of morality, the meaning of life, the truth of the Gospel, and the trustworthiness and authority of the Bible.

That is in our nature, and isn't dependent on religious occultism. The universe doesn't need meaning in order for humans to have a sense of purpose. The universe doesn't revolve around human life, humans are just another phenomenon that has emerged from natural interactions which are simply happening. The exact age of the earth doesn't matter when it comes to obeying the laws of God. God through Christ created all things existing in the spirit realm where spirit beings exist. Along with all things in our physical universe. The exact amount of time is unknown. The creative days are seen as epochs of time (undetermined). Also some of those days overlapped. If God really wanted us to know the exact age of the universe and earth he would've stated it in the bible. Since he didn't that means it is not important.
There would be less stars in the night sky if the universe is only around 5,100 years old.
Further it doesn't make sense to limit God to man's timetable when he has his own timetable. A day is a thousand years and a day for a thousand years as the bible states. Also Genesis the 2nd chapter says the day that God made the earth and heaven. Now is it six days or only one 24 hour day.?
Think of this let''s say you have a person that has enough money to have a contractor build a building for his business. Both the contractor and the person that wants the work done live in California. Would it make sense to have the workers start their day at 5:00 amp GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). No it wouldn't make any sense at all for it to be at that time.
The word day along with morning and evening can mean an undetermined period of time, an epoch of time is what the creative days are. It fits with the known laws of the universe and what man has learned through their study of science.
Finally limiting God saying that God couldn't have taken millions of years to create everything through Jesus isn't loving toward God. The only thing God cannot do is lie as the bible teaches us.

@@johnnydrawst.v.1820 My comment is about time in relation to where you are at. Let's say that people go to Venus and have a way to handle the heat and build livable places. Now if people on earth are saying what happens in a single day compared to Venus then on Venus it would look like a very short period of time has passed. Because it takes Venus 243 days before people would call it a day on Venus. Just think of a thousand years for a day.
Also think of the fact that the seventh day hasn't ended. It is still ongoing. Even the apostle Paul was urging Christians to enter into God's rest.
I go by what all of the bible says, not part of it or some of it. Whatever reasoning why God put limits on himself when he was creating the things that he created can remain unknown to me for a long time.

Not part of it or some of it all scripture that wold include the following verses. 2 Peter 3:8 that teaches that a day is a thousand years to the Lord and a thousand years for a day. Also Psalm 90:4 states that teaches in God's sight that a thousand years are like a day to him. That clearly proves that God doesn't live in our time zone or on our planet. He lives in the spirit realm that is outside of our space and time. It has its own time that is vastly different than our own.
Here on the earth we have a planet that is around 4.5 billions years old. Now using the math that the bible lays out that would amount to 4.5 million days to God. Divide that by 365 and you get around 12,000 years. is the time that has actually passed in God's realm of living.

Otherwise, it would be explicitly, said in the Bible, how old the Earth is and it does not do that. Families are counted by men only and not females in the Bible, you have no idea how many women were in the Bible. Age of the Earth does not matter what matters most is that God created it and he tells how he did it and that’s it. I don’t even think protestants ever read the book of Genesis, and the six days of creation. Read it and think about what it says it’s impossible for the Earth to be 6000 years old. Remember a Earth did not have a son or a moon our time pieces until the fourth day of creation, so how could they tell how long a day was read the Bible carefully.

All Christians should read all the bible, at least annually! The bible is quite clear about timing, because it is for us living in the flow of biblical history in which timing is essential to locate the creation in that history (not in fantasy land). The days, calibrated as normal days ( so time duration, not lighting change) show God directly active and present in the creation, as our creator; the genealogies put paid to pagan notions of eternal, or self-making cosmos.

What does matter is what the Bible says about the origin of the earth. That is, is the Bible true. 3. 6000 years is not impossible, that's a very long time. The billions of years is not a fact but an interpretation of facts. There are plenty of other measurements showing a younger age. 4. The days were defined in verse 1.5 as an evening and a morning, one (cardinal) day. The sun moon and stars were not needed for a day. 5. This guys is so ridiculous its dangerous. Evolution is a measurable testable science. Creationism is a theory that cannot be tested so therefore they fall on the bible as an absolute. Where is the evidence. Dinosaurs weren't known by man when they made up the bible that's why they are not in it. I hope that if you are reading this in the future you ask yourself one thing, Science works with the evidence and makes up the story. Religion starts with the story and makes up the evidence. Which one do you prefer? There is no wiggle room for answers in religion and that's not ok with me imo.

The name Dinosaurs was invented in 1841 the word is Greek deinos(terrible) sauros(lizard) by Richard Owen and the Dinosaurs were in the Bible in the book of Job the creature God describes talking to Job was the Dinosaur who was referred to as the behemoth.

If Science provides evidence before story how did evolutionists come up with the idea everything came out of a cosmic egg before the big bang?
And if Science is the be all and end all why are educational curriculum on topic areas keep on changing time after time to disprove the other?
Guess what have remained the same, The Bible

Actually evolution was a narrative created to exclude Divine Creation from science and then went in search of evidence to support that theory.

@@adelinomorte7421Oh now, I can prove his point now you claim I'm putting context into the bible? Yet you're the one speculating scripture texts to be whales and bigger fishes when the bible never mentioned anything like this in the Book of Job!
Word of advice! First of get educated, study and understand before you contribute to any discussion because if you did you'd know in the book of Job, God described two animals, the Behemoth and the Leviathan and it's description exposes the fact that you've been skipping Science class from grade one

You show good understanding of mythical Greek gods, but absolutely no understanding of the creator Yahweh who is.
