    Thanks for sharing! I've got an old ASM97 and YourDyno as well. It's torn down for cleanup and paint but I'll soon be using it for part throttle tuning. I see you replaced the KBMM eddy power supply with a MT2DC-1-220V55A rectifier. I was planning to get the sparkfun isolator and adding a RC filter but your solution simplifies things. 👍
    Can you share your source for the new pulley?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před rokem +2

      No Problem. The belt pitch is 8M. My pullies are 85mm wide. Measure yours because some ASM97's had thinner belts (55mm if I remember right). Here is an example pulley that I used. www.zoro.com/continental-sprkt-80-teeth-8m-pitch-85m-wide-p80-8m-85-e/i/G2216322/
      I was able to get it on ebay for cheap ~80 bucks if I remember right.
      You will also need the QD hub to fit your shaft along with a new belt length.

  • @patracy
    @patracy Před 9 měsíci

    Also I know you changed your timing belt sprocket for the flywheel to a larger one to get 1:1 from the rollers to the flywheel. But would it be possible/beneficial to move one of the large sprockets up to the flywheel and move the small one to the rollers and get one more smaller sprocket on the other roller? It'd reduce the eddy brake capacity, but it'd probably increase the time it'd take for the flywheel to spin up?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před 9 měsíci +1

      If I did that, we would see really high roller speeds and really low flywheel speeds. If I remember right the roller bearings were the limiting factor I dont think you want them spinning more than 130mph or so. The 1:1 ratio works out well because the safe flywheel speed almost matches the max roller speed I'm comfortable with, maximizing the available inertial.

    Atleast you aren't breathing in carbon monoxide with it being outdoors.. yes I know professional facilities have exhaust ventilation fans, but even then, you're still going to get some exposure depending on how good ventilation is.
    Edit* I like the double rollers.. Makes it atleast mentally more reassuring the vehicle stays where it needs beyond the ratchet tie downs.

  • @patracy
    @patracy Před 9 měsíci

    So what's the most power you've recorded on your setup? I heard you mention ~400hp, is there something preventing it from recording higher inertia based runs?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      Ive had closer to 500hp pulls on it. The issue is with the inertia this dyno offers, the pull is very quick at higher power levels. This results in less data points per pull, and on turbo cars sometimes less load.I find around 400/400whp/wtq I get a long enough pull to tune precisely. Anything less than that is even better

  • @2TonsOfLight

    Do you think it would be possible to link two for an awd dyno? And maybe use both brakes?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes actually. That’s how some of the AWD dynos work. A really long cog belt to the front rollers

    Hey man, I am a college student on a formula SAE team and I’ve been tasked to build a dyno system for our car this year so we can finally begin tuning. This setup looks awesome! Where do you think I should start as far as trying to replicate something? Scour marketplace for a similar emissions dyno? Consistency is all we’re after, not accuracy.

      Find a good industrial fabricator, the base unit would be less than 5k likely and I'm sure if you're in a good engineering school they have funds for a student managed project of this magnitude

  • @Drunken_Hamster
    @Drunken_Hamster Před 7 měsíci

    So if you increased the eddy brake strength and/or the roller weight, it'd be usable for higher horsepower applications?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, to a point. The dual rollers don't provide too much grip and the belt also has its limitations. But I think 550whp or so could be reliably measured.

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Its a pretty old little IBM in there. It doesn't take much computing power to run this dyno. I dont remember the specs but anything made it the last 10 years I would think is sufficient.
