  • Pineapple Tops Are Super Easy To Sprout! In this video revision, I go back to growing pineapples, but using the new method which is vastly superior to the old soil method. Here, we peel away all the leaf layers and place the stem in water for up to a month. Roots begin to form quite quickly, at which point, a new shoot actually starts to grow and the plant is ready for potting!
    Watch how I take an existing pineapple, cut the top off, and regrow that top to produce a new, living pineapple plant that you can grow in your home. Super easy and fun to do with kids, give this a try, you won't be disappointed!. Everyone loves pineapples!

    Look if you can pull out one of the leaves. When you can, your top is not viable. Sometimes the sellers sell it with the heart cut out. These are better to avoid due to having a big chance to rot, but they are possibly viable.
    0:30 i think the hearth of that top is cut out. That explains why there is coming a little shoot later on. Great video, because he shows how to grow them this way, since there are almost only this kind of tops. Very bad from the farmers. They can't stop us. For the people who have a intact pineapple top: do the same he does, but don't take all the leaves off.

    Just watch the blades on the living plant once it gets larger. They are often serrated and quite sharp. Like an Aloe vera plant.

    • @kokoslegend4850
      @kokoslegend4850 Před 4 lety

      But aloe vera has a lot of juice in it. But they are so comparable because for example the existing leaves get longer from the place where it is attached to the plant. Tip: you can see the sanity of the plant by inspecting the leaves. If they are small, the plant is a little bit weaker, but if the new parts of the leaves get bigger, it gets stronger. Leaves generated in the winter are thinner than leaves generated in the summer. By some plants (again including pineapple) you can see it by watching the stem. Bigger parts of the stem are better than thinner parts.

      Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, I actually have to bring the plants in during the winter....they are totally tropical and I don't live in a warm area. As for watering, I always water bare soil from below for 2 reasons. 1) the soil can soak up as much as it needs without leeching out the bottom before it can be absorbed fully and 2) watering from above blasts soil everywhere! Not good for a newly potted plant! Happy growing!

    Well it's been a month since I planted my pineapple top. It's surving up against my patio slider door (we have a major bug invasion outside). I did what you said and used organic soil. This proved a BIG problem since the organic soil came with gnats. And I assume fungus gnats because the inside bag of organic soil is now covered in white fungus (a month after opening the bag). And my pineapple plant is being invaded with these pesky gnats. I went to Home depot and it was suggested to use a product called Sevin. I have to babysit my pineapple plant so much to eradicate the gnats. So now I just potted my 2nd pineapple plant, but not with organic soil. So do you have a suggestion on how to keep gnats and other bugs away?

      That all depends on where you live. If you live near the equator, you can likely grow pineapple year-round. For me, I can only leave my pineapple plants outside for maybe 3-4 months in the summer, then they have to come indoors.

    • @dbrunsrtrom

      About 2 years. But worth it because it is almost effortless. When we lived in S. Florida, we planted all of our pineapple tops and after 2 years we never had to buy another one. We had those suckers growing everywhere! (Also counted as free landscaping, lol!!) When we sold our house I think we got a little more $$ because buyers were thrilled to have this ready resource!

    • @kokoslegend4850
      @kokoslegend4850 Před 4 lety +1

      Well it depends on how well you care it. If you take good care of it, it should flower in 2 to 3 years. If you don't take good care of it, it can be 4 to 5 years, but remember that every plant doesn't trive well if you don't repot it. If you never repot it, it can take up many years if you have a lot of luck, but it should never flower.

    • @kokoslegend4850
      @kokoslegend4850 Před 4 lety

      @@dbrunsrtrom a good way to know if your plant is very strong: the existing leaves get longer from the place where it is attached to the plant.
