I am just 18, so I think I am too young to understand world politics, but what I understand is US has its own interest with pak to counter terrorism in afghan, I recently heard that they used pak's air space to assassinate the current al-qaeda chief, also it has to counter growing India Russia partnership, but at the same time they can't replace India as they need to counter china and their stategic dominance in indo pacific region, recently I also heard that india and us are going for a high altitude warfare practice in uttarakhand.
So at the end what I conclude is they are just maintaining a diplomatic relation with both india and pak as we do with us and russia to uphold our interests, and this is nothing new.
