This car is a beast. Don’t sleep on this one
100%!!!
I currently own a 2018 Nissan Maxima Platinum. I am not thrilled about the CVT, Transmission but I still love my Maxima. It is still a very fun car to drive and I love owning this car. I get compliments on my Maxima often.
Me too mine is a 2017 platinum
I think you'll like camry better
Lucky you guys omg! I would love one haha😊
@@issavibez394 Not hardly.
I would say the exterior and interior design still hold up to date, the infotainment and tech though need a re-vamp. For the money I would pass until the tech is modernized , still, very very beautiful car
Infotainment system still stuck just like Camry ….. a big zonk !
I would have to agree.. very unfortunate, love the interior/exterior look of this car
I’ve owned 2 Maxima Platinums. Very nice cars and I never had any problems with them. They don’t go in the snow well with the z rated tires. I put snow tires on and then no issues. On the open road the car is awesome.
I agree I love my maxima platinum I got so lucky having one as my first car
Love the maxima but I think the CVT is what killed it on a sport sedan level on what it was originally for back in the day
YUP CVT SUCKS ASS AND IT'S THE REASON THE SALVAGE YARDS ARE FULL OF NON WRECKED NISSANS
Cvt is reliable on the maxima
It 100% helped killed it along with the fugly 6 gen, the Ghosn cost cuts/renault debacle, and the SUV craze.
Go from the fun and sporty 5.5 gen with a 6speed to the floaty, ho-hum 6 gen, and then the CVT was such an overall brand killer for the Maxima, Altima, and more.
Long story short…went to trade a 2020 Silverado RST that I bought new November 2020. Had 5.3 and after many serious engine problems at 19,000 miles in September 2013 went to trade it for a new Titan Midnight addition. Since moved to new house didn’t really need a truck drove off with a new 2023 Maxima like the one you reviews. They only had two left and all black and the white. Almost went with all black but got the white. I am 72 wife is 49. I am in good health, good shape and still work everyday. Told my wife this is my midlife crisis vehicle. We have a 17 soon to be 18 year old daughter and back in April we bought her a new Altima SR and it is a very nice car for the price so went back to Nissan. Don’t mind the CVT and absolutely love the vehicle and it loads of fun. Don’t drive it every day because have a work car and every time I get to can’t wait to drive the Maxima. Ben thanks a lot for this video and all your videos. I am a fan.
Nissan KILLED the Maxima when they put in the CVT. Otherwise, it is (was) a good car & competitive among its peers. But that CVT was a slow poison with sales continuously decreasing (w/ 2023 being its last year).
Agree
Cvt is overhated in my opinion if u take care of it theres no problem with it. My self i have a 22 maxima its still low mileage but its been perfect with me and im having so much fun with it.
@@AbdulazizAli-hs7gb it’s definitely over hated. I had a 2010 Altima with almost 70k miles with no issues with the cvt transmission “this had the most miles with my experience with a cvt.” Since I’ve had a 2015 Altima, 2013,2017 and 2020 maxima’s all without a problem.
It's actually been improved alot more than you would think😁 I understand the stigma with cvt when they first came out. But this is 2023 and nissan is proud to use the cvt. Have you test drove one? Highly impressed
Still love my 09. My favorite design
I always loved this car wanted one way back in 2015 when first came out dealer wouldn't give me a deal so got something else wish did more search ... oh well. This will be the last Maxima really hate that because such a beautiful car.
I have a 2016 and wow I love the power! I've gotten it up 119mph! On a open freeway it's just like a high performance sports car!!
I got my 2018 impala up to 130mph
@@griffin4576 I got my 1981 Datsun B210 up to 97 mph. yeehaw
I have had my 2018 up to 140 and still climbing, the car is a beast.
The Maxima is an excellent car and definitely has a place in my heart.
I’m sad to see it go
The Maxima is no more after the spring of 2023. RIP 🕊️
The outside always looked good but the inside needs help 😫 technology wise n more power geez
Nissan mixima is a good looking car love everything about it
This is one of the most handsome modern nissan ive seen
CVT on a V6 makes no sense. Need to do what they did with the pathfinder and replace with the 9 speed.
300 hp on a FWD doesn't either. It's a stupid car.
Looks exactly like my 2019 maxima Minus the pointless paddle shifters. Save some money if you really like this car and get a use with low mileage. Btw I do like my maxima
I want this bad. I buy nothing but Nissan! The CVT is very good/strong transmission. The reason why many have had issues with the CVT on Nissan is because they DO NOT get transmission flushed every 30,000 miles. They believe the fluid it comes with good for the life of the car. NO people you must get your transmission fluid changed every 30,000 miles. Why? Because the fluid will become burned, thick which will cause transmission slippage leading to transmission failure. I put over 200,000 miles on a Nissan Sentra and it was still running great when I traded it for a new one! Nissan, I believe makes the best cars hands down!
Yes they are.
I have the burnt orange 2020 Maxima SR and love it but in my opinion. What killed the Max was introducing the Altima as its little twin. Nissan should have like others said skipped the CVT transmission and added 50 more horses to the SR model and 20 more horses to the remaining models. Then add some additional funky color schemes like a bright green to the SR lineup. Overall though it's a great car and despite the CVT it can get down the road. I will have mine for a long time. Great review!!
How does your maxima behave when driving it? I am driving one and feel it a little weird. Not sure if that's normal.
@@kjk4795 what do you mean by a little weird? Mines drive good
@@jacoblay96 when you stop and accelerate, stop and accelerate, especially during traffic, doesn't it jerk a little ? Or is that normal ?
@@kjk4795 I ain't gone lie to you..I have noticed a lil jerk when I'm pulling off or pushing the gas... It doesn't do it all time tho.
@@jacoblay96 ohh I see. How many miles you got ?
I have a 2017 Maxima and I love it. Maybe in a few years I will get a used 2023.
The Negative CVT is How You Explained It's Purpose...To Get You 30 MPG On The Highways For We California Working Type That Still Want Good Looks, Good Performance/Comfortably, And Good Gas Mileage on The Freeways... It has Never Promised To Be A Beast, Just A Maxima of A Bargain, When Considering its Full Spec Sheet.
If people jump back to 2016 in their mind and realize what this actually offered. Was a good ass bang for the buck compared to luxury.
....but it's stuck in 2016
But we can't, the future is NOW, old man.
But back in 2016, there were still better options
Maxima back in 2016 was too pricey
2014 maxima will forever be the best maxima
I had one of those. It was a awesome car. Sports edition all black
I still owe one with 60k miles on it it’s gold
Only thing missing is a 8 or 10 speed transmission
....oh and wireless charging
....and a 21century infotainment system
The CVT transmission literally kept me from every buying one, and I still won’t ever Nissan products are dead to me. After a four-year-old transmission graduated replaced granted again replaced burned up. I’ll never touch another.
If it wasn't for that cvt I would have bought one of these. So I went with the '22 Pathfinder instead.
Was ready to get one but the CVT turned me off… so i went home with a 2023 Pathfinder Rock Creek. i used to have a 2001 maxima it was a nice car…
Then i got the wife a 23’ Altima SR VC- Turbo 2.0. That car is pretty fast. It has CVT but bought the 120K 8yrs bumper to bumper warranty.
@@Interpolation1911 Knowing Nissan's reputation when it comes to cvt buying that extended warranty was probably a smart move 👌
That car that almost pulled out gave me anxiety 😂 7:14
Nissan should have put in the 9 speed automatic and get rid of the Crapco Jatco CVT
My 2016 maxima SR is literally identical to the 2023 the only difference’s is the headlights, taillights, bumpers, and that’s it oh, and mine doesn’t have a sunroof which I love because those sunroof break all the time but I mean it’s a literally identical I could probably take the headlights taillights and bumpers off of 23 and put it on mine and call it a 23 max
I’m not gonna lie I do dog this thing got a new transmission at 132,000 miles it’s at 160,000 now and I’m still going 135 mph every day to work and it’s doing just fine
It honestly just looks like a bigger Sentra or Altima now? I really hate what car manufacturers have started doing with their vehicle line ups. Even Mercedes has the same problem. The C class, E class, and S class all look identical but just ones smaller and ones bigger. They no longer have that characteristic look that separated one from the other. It’s like going to McDonalds now and ordering a combo. Would you like it small, medium, or large?
2020-Up I’ve been eyeing on the SR model to purchase one, but what holds me back is the CVT transmission.
Don't be worried abought the cvt, they are bullet proof in the Maxima.
To confuse consumers and possibly increase sales Nissan & Jatco renamed their CVT transmission to CVT-X. Don’t be fooled. They’re still having the same issues.
Nissan's CVTs are known to be notoriously unreliable, and many owners complain about having to repair or even replace their car's transmission more frequently compared to regular automatic or manual transmissions.Mar 9, 2022
Ben, you talk so fast that I have to slow down the playback speed. 😁
I’m with CVT, my 2019 maxima makes 24.2 MPG on average, for a V6 non hybrid that’s excellent for me
For a V6 that’s really good. My Taurus gets 17 combined.
It does 0 to 60 somewhere between 5.4 - 5.9
Thsts pretty fast for the money you pay!
I love my maxima. The xtronic cvt works good and solid when you take the Pan out and check the magnets in the cvt pan. Clean the metal sludge and change the outer cooler filter regularly like when you change the oil in your car. They last a long time doing this. Don't ever do a shop cvt flush, Flush won't help as strong. Why did they make it like this? No idea.
Every cvt trans should run a magnefine filter
@fzr1000 yes that would be awesome!
@Kevin Andrews 2 not sure you can install one one the Maxima, I have one installed in line on my Accord and change it every 25k. Keeps clutch material and particulate from accumulating. These transmissions last a long time if you take care of them
@fzr1000 Honda Accords last a long time from my experience of seeing freinds with theirs in the past. I knew people that didn't take care of them and raced all over the place beating them up and they still be on the road today. Toyota is a very good brand. Maybe I can build something that attaches to my cooler outer filter with a magnet that I can take apart from time to time to see what we got haha.
theres no need to clean the magnets- they actually become more effective with the accumulated metal on them. its not called for in the service manual, either.
New badges can’t make up for the fact that it still has a CVT lol
CVT is awesome in the Maxima, no worries.
Great car but Q50 still better choice 💪😎
Q50 is like 20 years old now with that design...lol
Sooo expensive! I love my 2016 maxima that I got in 2019. I’m sure I would love this updated version also
This is not a "NEW MAXIMA". This is the final year of this vehicle. It's a discontinued vehicle. This video is made as you do this is a newly designed vehicle.
I have the SR Limited Edition with a Supercharger and Manual Transmission! Lol Wouldn't that be nice, if it were true! That being said, for the money, not many other cars out there that have the "coolness" factor like the Maxima (in this price range). It's very comfortable, yet handles well and has more than enough power for me. Driving in Sport Mode makes a huge difference and sounds great. Mine is gun metal grey with black wheels and smoked windows. Had it for close to a year and... rarely goes a day without getting a compliment. Now that they are doing away with the Maxima, they just lost two customers. My wife has the same one, different color.
Not only is the cvt a bad idea the oversized rims with the small amount of rubber between the rims and road ar just looking for blowouts if you hit a potholes not to mention more rubber gives a better ride
I think the Nissan Maxima is a great car but the CVT holds it back. It'd be so much better if it had an 8 speed. Good video
Dated and overpriced for a 2023 w/CVT. I see why the Max is on the way out.
Really liked the Maxima. Looks and engine are spot on but the CVT reliability track record is abysmal at best so it automatically gets deleted off my list.
150 thousand miles on my 2018, love the trans.
@@gleanerman2195lies
I personally like cvt just so much smoother than traditional transmission u hear more of transmission braking down than anything
The are the best trans. in my opinion, so smooth.
They really got to update the key fob for the price !
Lmfao this looks exactly like my 2017 maxima sr it’s insane how they charge ppl so much for the same car all these years later 😂😂😂😂😂
Sae this very same Maxima out on the road today and wow it looks stunning in person...
I have the 2020 SV, I intentionally did not get the SR, because living in the North Jersey Area, we have many potholes, you hit one of them with those SR rims 20", your buying new rims, ( something to think about) , otherwise it's a wonderful car, wish it had a dual clutch and not the cvt trans, but still very quick and handles well
Better get rid of it before you warranty runs out! That CVT will need replaced
Have you ever owned one? Shut your mouth and stop spreading propaganda.
@@odnamorvr3053 I’ve never owned one, but I do work in the industry. The car sales are full of them needing a new transmission. So you shut your mouth little buddy it’s facts not propaganda!
Not true. fake news! Previous generation is a cvt and I still see plenty on the road. I previously owned one and had no issues even after the warranty.
@@TheLaw_11 okay. Buy you one.
@@timclark7183 Reading is fundamental. I did say I previously owned one. ..keyword: previously
Fairly nice car, saw one in person and didn’t know what it was.
Yeah I heard the gas around 2 minutes 35 😲
I just cant.. Nissan is the new Chrysler..over engineering the appearance to cover up lack luster mechanicals... CVT... pass.. 2010 style infotainment center... pass..... Shiny plastic interior... pass....You could get a top Camry or... a 2022 Lexus for that money.. with a modern infotainment center and no CVT.. those cars will last 200k if taken care of.. This car will leave you on the side of the road at 70k miles with a dead tranny.. Good luck
Here you go again with your misinformation. First of all, how dare you compare a Camry to a Maxima? The Camry interior looks way cheaper and dead than the Maxima. The infotainment centre in the Camry looks awkward as if they just stuck on a tablet on to it. The Maxima is in a different league from the boring hideous looking Camry.
Secondly, the CVTs in Maxima are way more premium than what you will find in a Sentra. I'm apart of the Nissan Maxima group on Facebook with over 8K members and not one has had a CVT failure. I even see a guy there with a 2016 Maxima with over 300,000 miles. So stop the hate, lies and misinformation.
Do some research
Just traded my 2018 Platinum for the gray SR, it is awesome.
No sound
Love Maximas. But yea CVT and no manual option killed it. Such a shame.
I’m happy with my 2017 maxima. Looks just the same on the inside.
Brought an all black SR model for my birthday it lasted a week before being stolen. I just recovered it
thats crazy i had the SV model and mine was stolen to
Simple, don't buy expensive cars in shitty areas
I like the old 80's box shaped Maxima. None of others appeal to me.
Backup camera resolution is horrible. It’s the same as when I owned a 2018 QX50!

Has Nissan Fixed Their Transmission Problems?
In 2019-2022 Nissan models, third-generation Xtronic CVT transmissions address overheating, failure, and limp mode issues by increasing the distance between the transmission oil and the pulley system. However, TSBs for “juddering” and drive shaft seal leaks still exist, and the CVT has been discontinued in the 2022 Pathfinder and replaced by a nine-speed automatic.
46k for a maxima that’s ridiculous I don’t think it’s worth it.
Great review but New maxima? 2023 is the last model year for this generation Maxima you reviewed. It's been out since 2016. They're skipping 2024 model year and introducing the all electric for 2025.
I agree they stop putting a cvts and do they rely abilities there be a good car company
Actually surprised they put out a maxima considering everyone is getting rid of their big sedans for smaller lift backs or EVs, but I wish they’d just but a 8 speed in it if to atleast put it back in its roots
the first maximas were conventional drive with semi-trailing arm rear suspension and the L-series engine just like the old 510s. and they used a DD 4-speed, OD 5-speed or the trusty old jatco automatic L4N71B.
Dang looks just like the 2017 model. Time for a refresh.
Screen looks like it’s from 1994.
I'm on my 2nd Maxima. But they really need to update the info screens. Just do not put the screen on the dash like the Altima.
They still make this? Who is buying this car? Gheez!!!!!!
Still looks better than most cars out there.
nobody, that's why after this year it'll be a fossil 🤣
It makes no sense to put 9 speed on the new pathfinder buy continue cvt on the regular cars it's pointless why not put a 8 speed or o speed it makes alot more sense
They need to bring back they manual transmissions! I got a 5.5 6mt and it’s a blast to drive
I looks almost exactly like my 2018 sr except the nissan emblem if this is the last year I was expecting a complete redesign I know people will say whatever but that's how I feel when you have almost the exact same car for 6 years
Yeah Nissan Sentra was mating with the Nissan Altima in bang here is the Nissan maximum
I got an old 2004 at auction mint 500 bucks. Tons power rides like cadillac!
Why do some people hate cvt?
Maxima had a good fan base before cvt
The cvt is a good trans.
I understand all the hate for Nissan but here are some TRUE FACTS for you haters. What you don't hear is Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi , and some Subaru all have CVT's . If you don't like Nissan no one is holding a gun to your head. Buy what you like or what you can afford. The reason you had problems with yours started with YOU. NISSAN makes the fastest , more powerful Japanese car you can buy. That new supra is ALL BMW , compared to the new Z. Germany cars are better. The new TRD camry has cvt , Honda accord cvt. TOYOTA , HONDA , NISSAN top 3 in Japan . GM , FORD , DODGE top 3 in U.S.A
MERCEDES , BMW , AUDI top 3 Germany
All cars break down from wear & tear just like our bodies. Buy what you like you paying for it . Name one car that has no issues , I dare you. I've own Japanese name brand cars for more than 20 years . Humans build cars , humans are NOT perfect so why should what we build be perfect . Cars are made to break , just as we are born to die . ENJOY THE RIDE
How kind of camera and setup do you use for your test drive portions?
Why is it not Turbo driven
2016 or 2023 ?
Very good car. My maxima A33 is 2003.
0:43 🥷🏻Japanese Samurai 🥷🏻
the cvt has to go i miss the 6 speed manual maximas
I think the 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum is a better car. It's more expensive but worth it
Not hardly, the Maxima blows it away in every department. I thought abought one but got the 2023 Maxima instead, but the Crown is the best looking Toyota they have ever built. My 2018 Maxima was so great I had to have another.
they should add awd
Look out Infinity..
Nice car but for 40,000 I can just get a base model Z for 5,000 more Ijs…it’s good for a family car that just want a bit of a go I guess
Wow it’s nice even in white. Only 300hp though. Sounds like a V8
Hello there great review as always I just have a question how do you think this compares in driving Dynamics to the Kia stinger GT line with the 2.5 turbo engine love to hear your thoughts
I prefer the transmission in the kia
I am torn between maxima or Acura max 2023.
debating on getting this or the kia k5 gt
For the money I would rather have a Lexus ES 350.
Looks better than the Lexus for the money thou.
Completely agree. I would rather have a car that won't be on the side of the road at 70k with a dead transmission along with a modern infotainment center...
@@johnb3352 Maximas are reliable. What are you talking about? Have you ever owned one? Just shut your mouth and don't speak about things you have no experience with or know about.
Lexus 🥱😴
@@odnamorvr3053 it might look better than the Lexus but I’d rather have the overall reliability that you get in the Lexus. Nissan needs to ditch the CVT and go with their nine speed.
Bring the damn automatic transmission back 😒 The car would be the #1 sold car in America if you did.
A slot for CD player? Cute
What is it that every reviewer of Nissan just doesn't stop talking about CVT. This guy has repeated word CVT probably 20 times. All Nissan competitors such as Toyota, Honda, Mazda Subaru and others also use CVT transmissions but never get criticized . In fact I just watched some Honda review and it wasn't even mentioned that it's equipped with CVT transmission.
I thought that Nissan had discontinued the Maxima?
I have 2017 platinum not seeing much difference, mine look better than that to me … the wool panel going around
Fajne autko 🤘👍
This is the last year for the Maxima
Wow Nissan really turning up with the tech for 2014 😂. I actually would just wait till they come out with a non snowmobile transmission version. (won't happen).
The last Maxima. RIP
