    Cool video thanks! I’m 50 years old and for the first time in my life I’m learning how to ice skate and play hockey. I’m doing both at the same time. Diving right into the abyss. All these little things I need to learn. I don’t even know the rules of hockey. But I’ll get there. I’m looking at this as being a rest of my life passion.

    I take a strip and run it along the bottom of the blade, folding it onto both sides, then wrap it toe to heel. Gives a little bit of extra lift.

    • @mulmu5748
      @mulmu5748 Před 4 lety +2

      Does it really lift the puck more? Im curious

  • @jisatsulol
    @jisatsulol Před 13 lety +13

    I usually tape in a weird manner. I do the toe to heel method, but I start out first by putting a strip along the bottom of the blade, then tape around the blade. I also use a puck afterwards instead of the roll of tape to smooth out the creases as this also brings out the glue a bit turning the normal stick tape into a sticky tape of sorts. I like the extra tacky feeling but dislike using friction tape.

    Yeah usually foam tape is used for the grip to give you a nice cushioned feel, I don't think anyone uses it for the blade. Stick wax is used on the blade to keep the snow from building up and it also gives you a lot more grip, some guys put it on thick and the puck practically sticks to their blade.

    Good on you for making these videos. I tape my stick heel to toe, with almost no overlap and end the tape on the back hand leaving the toe exposed. I find an exposed toe is faster for toe drags. I always put a quick a strip of tape along the bottom because the little overlap wears down quickly and the last thing you want is another broken heel.

    @19shanedoan19 That is a good idea with the white tape during practice. I am pretty sure I heard Gretzky say the same thing about white tape, that is why I mentioned it in the video.
    I tried the extra strip on the bottom but I don't like the feel.

    @BladeTapeCA actually yeah, :) You guys sent me some at the end of last season and I tucked it away to do a review of this year. I have it on my back-up stick, it's super grippy and has held up nicely. I had to adjust a bit at first though as it gripped the puck more than I was used to and the puck flipped over when I was moving the puck quickly from one side to the other.

    After buying sticks with relatively straight blades for most of my life, I finally bought one with a pretty dramatic curve on it. I can't seem to tape it right. I think Ray Charles could do better. I have no idea what I am doing wrong but the tape always ends up asymmetrical to the rest of the tape on blade as well as bubbles a lot on the top where I wrap it over. Any insight would be helpful.

    You method is kind of a cool idea, toe to heel, so the puck doesn't pull the tape off, but I always found that you get way more snow buildup that way, which is why I go heel to toe.

    For inline hockey, when I play outside on cement rinks, I'll use good quality duct tape on the blade, particularly the bottom edge to make it last. It may not be "cool" enough for some of you kids, but it grips fine and lasts longer than hockey tape ... and I don't have to spend $20 a month or so on tape due to the cement wearing thru your cloth tape pretty quickly.
    Playing indoor on tile you don't have near the amount of wear as on a cement rink, so cloth holds up fine.

    Toe to heel, with a couple of layers of tape on the bottom of the blade under the wrapping for protection (I'm poor). I also, instead of running the roll along the wrapped blade, use a puck because it seems to make it stickier and the puck doesn't seem to come off my stick when I am playing.

    No knob OR electrical tape 2mm knob. 3-4" tape at top of shaft, 3/4" at about 4/5 of the way down the shaft because that's where my lower hand goes on a slapshot. Up to but not exceeding 2" on the sweet spot on the blade. I wouldn't even tape if it weren't compulsory haha

    I tape my blade heel to toe and I cover the toe. The reason for this is because the toe of my blade starts to chip away faster without it. It still does with the full tape job, but when it does I think the tape helps keep moisture out of the cracks. Do other players get the same problem? I usually have to re-tape after one game and one practice when the tape wears off on the heel half of the bottom. Thanks for the videos.

  • @goflyers6978
