    You could also rub the stick tape with a puck to make it darker. Not quite black but a dark grey. This also helps protect your stick tape from gashes.

    When it comes to 2:45 stuff i do that to cover the bottom of the blade too. I wonder if it has negative affect on shots. On how the blade and shaft behaves. I mean if you have basically double layer at bottom of the blade how could it affect? Plus sides are that the used tape is easy to remove and i don't always have remove the old one from the bottom. Seems to last longer overall if you're lazy taper. It warns of wear pretty well because i don't want to expose the naked blade against ice. I want the blade to last.

    Just an observation and I'm not saying it's right or wrong because I'm sure there are pros that do it like you. I always thought it was best to start at the toe, that way the leading edge of the tape is covered by the next wrapping as the puck travels heel to toe on a the forehand shot/pass. When you do it like you did, the puck spins over that exposed leading edge of the tape where the tape lifts off sometimes. Not sure I explained that understandably. Always wondered if it made some small difference in stability or speed of the puck off the blade.

    • @JakeReichbart
      @JakeReichbart Před 8 lety

      +Gabe Armijo I think I understand the question and another video I watched does agree with you. It is my sense that since he places each "winding" exactly at the half point of the tape, the edge of the tape sits perfectly next to the previous winding so they are all the same height, kind of like tiles, and the effect you describe is perhaps negligible. Just a thought, who knows...

    • @gabea.458

    As a goalie I am fully supportive of white tape or most bright colors of tape. Some of the hardest shots to stop are quick release snaps off perfectly smooth black tape. All kidding aside, this is a tiny edge. You are not giving up THAT much by using whatever tape you want. But half of beating a goalie is a mind game anyways so... at least that's how I felt about it as the one stopping the shots.

    Just asking for a tip: I play inline hockey just as a hobby, twice a week. My stick is super cheap, we skate on parquet and I'm not that good. About one month and a half I taped my stick, but now the bottom part (the thin bottom of the blade which touch the floor) has gone away, but the tape on the blade is fully intact. Should I leave the tape this way, or should I put a small piece of tape under the blade, without going up in the blade? Keep in mind that I don't need to tape the stick again

    • @alexsteil7227
      @alexsteil7227 Před 7 lety

      Ire Quintaluce almost always the tape on the very bottom wears off, notice it happened to him in the video. It really doesn't matter, as the edge of your blade almost never touches the puck. So no, you don't need to and it doesn't matter.

      Lol damn YT...I can't believe I'm watching tape vids but I am. No, agree. Back in my youth I always started with 1 strip on bottom edge then went toe to heel, making the overlaps run to benefit puck travel. That way the puck doesn't catch the edge of the overlaps. But I also use wax so that prob negates that, but always had the strip on the bottom edge

    @LEV1ATHYN Před 7 lety +33

    You definitely know a lot more about hockey than me, but this is my two point critique: 1) If you start taping from the toe (rather than the heel) the puck will travel WITH the grain of the tape on wrist shots, which would presumably be ever so slightly better for shot velocity and control. 2) I always tape my blade with pure black tape. White contrasts the most with a black puck, showing your opponents the position of the puck when they stick check you and letting the goalie see more when you're getting ripping your shots on goal.

    • @ryanb6679
      @ryanb6679 Před 7 lety +10

      LEV!ATHAN if your playing a high level there's no real advantage of black tape

    • @LEV1ATHYN
      @LEV1ATHYN Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah I noticed a ton of NHLers use white on their blades, so apparently there's no advantage at all. But intuitively you'd think goalies would struggle that much more to see when the puck is in a shooting position on the blade.

    You should use black tape because it blends in with the puck and when your on a breakaway it would be hard for the goalie to see it. And your not suppose to look down at the puck when your skating so you don’t need white tape

    • @DerekKerton
      @DerekKerton Před 6 lety

      No, you're not supposed to look down...you're supposed to use peripheral vision to see the puck. All the more reason high contrast is useful. If you can make out the puck's location through feel and peripheral, you won't need to look down.
      But I still don't agree that white tape is needed, because from my eye's perspective, the puck is against the ice in front of my stick. From the keeper's perspective, it may appear to be against the stick.

      Thanks very much Giuseppe! Haha! No worries, we will have to post another video soon which will offer more than one way to tape a stick. Which way do you like to tape your stick and we'll include it in our next video? We'll be adding more videos directly to our new iTrain Hockey website which will be launched on May 1st. If you're interested and want me to keep you up-to-date on all the new training videos you can join our bi-weekly email newsletter list at this link or follow us @iTrainHockey or on Facebook + Twitter. itrainhockey.com/join-the-team/

    This is kind of stupid. If you don't know how to tape a stick, you have a problem. Plus, everyone tapes their stick differently. Like I use half of the tape (width wise) so it's really thin strips and it makes more friction. More friction equals harder and quicker shots.
    That being said, I'm sure this guy is better than me and seems very nice, but still, a video on taping your stick?

      Console MonsterX he's not stating this is the only way to tape your stick; he's simply giving a tutorial to new hockey players

      Yeah, but like I said, a video on taping your stick? LOL. If you need to watch a video to tape a stick, you have a lot more to worry about.

      I'm sure you learned to tape your stick from someone, and this video is intended for someone who is new and don't know to properly do it.

      You're right. But I definitely wouldn't learn from a video.
      Even if I were new. To me, it just feels like I've always known because I'm a 3rd generation hockey player that has been playing since the early 90s.
