You have any previous channels? Regardless, this ones gonna do great i can tell
The thing about jumping over ground effects is something I learned by watching the comp do it.
I play as a Wizard. My favorite spell is grease- especially at low levels. Even if the enemy doesn't slip, it counts as difficult terrain and still gives you as useful advantage. And worse comes to worse, you can always ignite it.
But then I got to the goblin fort and they all started just jumping over it. I ended up switching over to a combo with Shadowheart where she'd rain on their parade and then I'd freeze them. Not ideal, but it makes a large enough field were they can't just decide to hop over it usually. (though admittedly, most gobs have a decent dex save.)
Dude, just love your stairs to heaven, this is some keid of weird deranged genius!🎉
Respect!
(But more seriously, how do you stack the boxes? i tried a few times- and did not find out😢)
Keep making videos, the word will get around, your tips are so good!
On another topic: what's your stance on the karmic dice?
I seem to do better without it, but it's the opposite for some other people?
For jumping, the Lae'zel Psionic Jump "spell"/ ability allows any character to jump just as far as she does, it's amazing, almost as good as misty step!
Regarding Dip, as I recall you can actually dip weapons in water surfaces as well. It doesn't add any damage, and the only use case I found for it is using a bow to extinguish light sources as a rogue.
Holy shit, Thief water arrows. That's actually insanely good.
Just went to try this myself and you're right you can cast it on water! It doesn't seem to change anything though lol it doesn't even show up on my weapon as being dipped. Other surfaces normally just say you can't dip there. Maybe they will add more to this at release?
@@ProxyGateTacticiansupprized that you can’t dip on an acid surface? I would have thought hat would work.
I was thinking maybe we could use dip on water to cancel heat metal maybe, but it makes you drop weapons immediately. Right?
@@ProxyGateTactician Can dipping in water cancel heat metal?
That box tower caught me off guard. Well done.
Thanks lol as soon as I found out that was a mechanic I wanted to show it to people!
Yeah, that was hilarious!
You rolled a nat 20 on this. So much good advice!
haha thank you for that Mikez! Glad to hear it
If you didn’t mention this was your first video ever on this channel I would never have known! It was also super informative! Even as a dnd veteran, I still had plenty of new things that I learned!
I was just about to say this! Solid advice, well presented, excellent job!
I love it when a new game ushers in a bunch of new channels
This is exactly what I came to comment. Such as helpful video
Wow, me as a newbee, I am somewhere near to end Act 1 and this tips are revolutionary for me big time! Subbing this.
Props not only for the amount of content, but the amount of time you took to get the appropriate footage together and the then edit into this final masterpiece.
Thanks so much! Almost finished my next one now. it took a ton of time too lol
Can I just mention that it's wonderful you do proper closed captions for youtube, I'm part of a community that is hard of sight-adjacent and went to school with some blind folks and so small things like this make me really happy and instantly earned a sub!
This was absolutely excellent! Every new player should watch this. It gets into a lot of the more complex nuance in this game.
These shenanigans are all vestiges of divinity original sin
@@jaimetheone9150 A few are, most are not. The potion throwing is, the standing on boxes is, the stealth mechanics are specific to Bg3, improvised weapon is BG3 and 5e, dipping is Bg3 and 5e, Op attacks are a 5e thing, poison use is a 5e thing, Dash is a 5e thing, disengage is a 5e RAW thing, help is a Bg3 thing.
@@Blackheifer Well to be fair you couldn't throw potions or stand on boxes in Divinity. Of all the things on the list stealth is the most similar, but it's a still quite different. Weapon dipping was KIND of a thing in divinity if you were a ranger but it wasn't the same still. Opp attacks were in divinity but it was a talent not just a normal thing everyone had. Poison was totally a different mechanic in divinity and was explosive. But everything else yea.
@@jaimetheone9150 Almost none of these things were possible in Divinity
As a new player, I stopped watching as I want to figure it out myself. Well that was my thought after clicking 😅
dude I wasn't expecting much until I saw your intro and the giga chad throw from the heavens. You're better than a lot of the BG3 creators out there
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I wanted to put a lot of effort into it if I was going to try this. That tower I had so much fun building that I felt like I had to find a way to include it lmaooo
It got so high that it bugged out the combat and if they tried to engage me it kept re-rolling initiative and never started the fights. So roughly 80ish is the max height.
That box stack was incredible❤
No clickbait, very good explanation of the mechanics and generally good advice. With mad science(box ladder) to boot. You, sir, should continue.
Thanks! I'll try my best to match this level and improve going forward.
Yeah the box ladder was a gem!
Your video was very well done. I especially enjoyed the amazing box stacking and analysis of damage done by thrown objects.
lol I had done that before even thinking of the video then decided I needed to include it somehow because it was so fun. I probably spent like 2 hours just trying stuff with that.
Even here, we cannot escape Fortnite.
An extra tip for reaching downed allies out of combat to help them if you’re worried about reaching them in time - switch back into the turn-based mode. You’ll have time to plan on how to best reach them instead of the 6-18 seconds you’d have otherwise.
Oh that's a super good one dude! I was just writing a section in my next vid about turn based mode ill add this in now. Thank you!
As a first video for a channel, this is very concise and informative, no bullshit clickbait. This is what I call highest quality video, and deserves an instant sub. Keep going, you are doing great!
Thanks so much! I'll try to keep that up. My next video isn't a tips one, but probably in another couple weeks i'll put one out I've been keeping a gigantic list of interesting stuff I found in the release
this is the perfect content to watch before launch. no spoilers, just useful information that will help you to understand and enjoy the game more!
Sick video. Most bg3 videos now is just recycled content but this one is quality and I actually learned a couple of new things. Thanks.
Thanks! I think it helps I didn't watch much others and just try to learn from my own experiments
Thanks for creating this, there was a lot of information here that I didn't know even after playing early access for almost 40 hours. I will definitely be incorporating these tips into my strategies upon the full release. It's obvious that you put a lot of care and effort into making this video!
Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear you found some useful stuff in here. Appreciate the kind comments Muffin
I am the mod on r/BG3Builds. Holy crap, this video is ten notches above many of the other content creators out there. Both in terms of content as well as editing. If you keep making videos like this I will happily add suitable ones to the stickied post for guides
Thanks so much man! I plan to make more videos (At least one a week) for sure! It took me about 50 hours to do all of this video haha hopefully I get faster. I really had fun though and appreciate this feedback.
@@ProxyGateTactician I went ahead and subscribed so I'll keep an eye out. I've been playing/DMing 5e for nearly a decade. As soon as you brought up shoving an ally out of start of turn spells like Moonbeam my jaw hit the floor and I started typing my above comment. I've not seen any BG3 content creator with such a great comprehension of the mechanics.
@@phantomsplit3491 I've only done DND once in my life haha majority of game knowledge is from around 1000 hours in Divinity 2 and then trying everything I can think of in Early Access as well. I'm sure I'll have things I can learn from that subreddit too I'll be sure to check it out from now.
I came due to that post ^_^
Obi Wan Kenobi likes this video.
Im beyond shocked to learn this is your first video! im a bg3 beginner and thus far have consumed way too many videos trying to get the best tips, but your video singlehandedly was the best, most informative, even hilarious with those memey clips. awesome tips ive yet to see elsewhere, and pacing, format and language used was so easy to understand! a million thanks!!!
Shove was my biggest friend whilst fighting the goblin bosses. The Drow lady had two of her goblin companions that could be shoved to death before you even start the fight.
And placing stuff in the world before the combat made the fight against the Half Ork goblin boss made the fight a 4 v 3 instead of a 4 v 7.
This game is just awesome. And has so much replay value since you can handle those situations so differently based on the classes in your party.
For sure. There’s even totally different paths you can take and get different fights that way it’s so fun
Really appreciate the effort you put into this! The ladder was insane. Thank you! Very well researched and detailed =)
This game is insane. Can't wait to get into it.
The use of Starcraft 2 terran music in this video made me really happy
This was incredibly helpful! I was blown away by the sheer number of actions you could do at any time, and this helps a lot as an orientation. Thanks, dude. 😀
Dude this was so helpful. I've been avoiding a lot of other content cause I don't want spoilers but knowing how to use the mechanics of the game before I start will allow me to focus on the story itself instead of figuring out the little things. Thanks for this.
I have a lot of 5e experience and still learned a ton from this video about how it’s implemented in BG3. These little tips, tricks, and exploits are fantastic to know. Thanks, dude!
Glad it was helpful!
Lots of good info in here, both for beginners and veterans. And good production value too, which is rare for a first video. Can’t wait for the next one!
Good stuff! You covered a lot of things that other channels have missed and you made me think about how to use a lot of stuff that I've just ignored on the action wheels. What a great start!
Your FIRST video?!?! What a great video! Absolutely loved it. Keep at it. Everyone needs to watch this.
Excellent video man. Great editing. I knew most of the things you explained on the video but it was still extremely fun to watch. Keep up the good work :)
The second I saw your stairs to heaven, I knew you were THE person to follow and instantly subscribed. You went above and beyond on this. I can't even imagine how much time went into that video. I mean the content, editing, pacing, commentary... it's insanely good! I sincerely hope you get the recognition you deserve.
Thanks so much! Honestly it's made my wait for the game fly by putting all my time into it so I was happy to do it. Appreciate the kind comment
Glad to hear you had a good time making it. It made me even more hyped. Luckily, I started looking for videos like theses only a day prior to launch 😅
This is absolutely amazing, subscribed! Excellent first video!
This was an awesome vid, ty for the tips, it clarified a lot of options available with the bonus actions 😮
Glad it was helpful!
That was fantastic. Informative, funny and crazy. Well done!.
More to come!
Excellent advice, please create a lot more of this, much appreciated. Tips like how not to die in combat for each class, which is quite easy to do early game but gets brutal pretty quickly, especially in the underdark. Also what skills to put points in for companion characters and a straightforward guide on how best to finish their builds would be awesome. Or any other useful tips. Subscribed and can't wait to play the full game!
so basically - you want him to play the game for you...? Trial & error - learn that stuff yourself
@@MiyataIchiro2410 I mean you have to admit, there are at least two encounters in the underdark that can absolutely wipe a party early on. One of which seems to be a random encounter even and had a habit of tossing 1 or 2 of my characters into a chasm after knocking them prone just from appearing (and it is at least somewhat random as it can appear in more than one place it seems... Surprised the hell out of me, though the second place I got it was a bit more to my advantage due to dumb AI). And being knocked prone is unfortunately part of the warning that its coming. That basically set my expectations of what I going to be facing in the underdark and made me take the game so much slower (probably would have taken my time with taking on the goblins, but I wasn't certain about procuring more camp supplies early on and whether or not there was a time limit for helping the tieflings *note there is, but its rather generous it seems*).
As for tips to not die in the underdark... Do everything you can beside the mountain pass (the mountain pass is roughly on par with the underdark in terms of challenge I think, with one area you are forced to visit if you don't want to lose a certain character). There are quests in SO many places in this game. I am nearing the end of act 2 right now and I looked up some Act 1 stuff and I can safely say I missed about half a dozen events (some of which due to rushing the goblin event, though one of the quests I missed would have severely helped with that). Exploring and looting what you can, even to just sell stuff to buy better things, will get you a lot of experience, inspiration, and equipment. Shops will typically restock after every level and also I think on long rests, so be certain to revisit them after doing so (hopefully with stuff to sell) so you can see if there is anything powerful on sale and to restock on camp supplies, potions, alchemy ingredients, lock picks, and trap disarm kits. Also don't forget to make use of things that can change the terrain (either through potions or spells) and make note if you can dip your weapons in said change or light it on fire (in the case of webs and grease).
The first video on this channel? That was the best guide I've seen on any game's basic mechanics shown with full breakdowns of something of with infinite possibilities with, with memes. This is literally game changing information for a lot of us new to DnD mechanics and strategy genres. You also just saved us nerds the hassle of having to read a core rulebook and/or witness these mechanics in game. And, the best bonus, it just dawned on me I can use these in tabletop DnD so thanks for the visual info I need to throw my friends as an improvised weapon as the "healer" cleric.
Enjoyed the SC2 music 10:24.
Excellent video. It’s a good sign when you are hungry for more video’s immediately.
Look forward to your next one!
Very good and much-needed guide. I learned so much! Thanks! Subbed.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear it was useful to you
I think this is the best made guide for bg3 i have ever seen. Cant wait for your explaining of other mechanics like stats value, advantage, proficiency and all other crazy things that annoys newbies so much. You nailed it brother
Dude one of the best videos on this game I saw so far💯 keep it up!
I especially appreciate how you went out of your way to find a clip for each and every one of your examples, I can only imagine how much work that took
Thank you!! It was a lot of work but it was fun
Dude started this channel and immediately won the algorithm
Not sure I've ever subbed to a channels first video in my life.
Quality content my dude.
Thanks so much for letting me be the first time then Carbob
Awesome video with tips that are actually useful, and which many of us might overlook, or only discover after a lot of playing experience, thereby having missed many opportunities to make use of these. I played only a little early access, quite some time ago, because I didn't want to spoil my launch experience but did want to support Larian & the game. Kudos to you, for all the time, effort, and thought that went into this.
Just started playing BG3 and the thorough explanation of the different uses for those actions will help a lot! Trying to deff felt like i was loosing out on a lot of actions and turns not knowing how to properly use the environment.
Great tips. The 'throw healing potion' is so clutch to know. The game over at the end of the video was caused by a crit fail on your "location on geometry" check. It happened to my Asterion once and he ended up half way across the map and fell to his death. Thank Shah for Withers.
At least that's a better explanation than I could come up with lol thanks for that!
I wonder if speed runners will use that to bypass half the game by finding ways to reproduce the effect in various places along with a way to survive.
Quality video, thank you.
Great video! Very helpful, clear and concise description and examples and best of all the video was presented in a calm and steady voice. Subscribed!
I bought the game a while ago but have purposely not played it because I didn't want to be bored with the first act when it went to full release and see everything for the first time in it's finished state. I know that there are going to be lots of things that I will be behind the curve with because of it but this video is very welcome because I knew you could use the environment but I had no idea that it was to this extent. I likely would have never even thought about a good portion of the examples that you showed in the video so, Thank You. There are going to be endless "build" videos out there but if you keep up with doing less commonly covered things like this I can see your channel doing well. This is exactly the type of video that exemplifies what D&D has always been about, thinking outside the box to find a solution to your problem.
Since I am going to be playing catch up, I'm subscribed.
I recommend throwing healing potions and positiv potions very close to allies. Not directly at them, for that causes damage. Great Video!
Nice video, good quality and very helpful!
Thanks so much for the feedback Wulfgar!
love the work you put into the actual footage for this vid, this must have taken quite some time. hats off, good stuff!
Thanks a ton!
This is a great video. Well done.
Cant wait for the depth of the full game.
Great video! I hope you make many more :)
That's the plan!
Great content, looking forward to more
More to come!
Fantastic! I have hundreds of hours in EA and this video and your other one had so many gems of information I didn't know lol. Great stuff, these videos are a must watch! I look forward to your next video!
this is one of the best and most unique videos with tips i have seen so far... i am so tired of the same thing being repeated over and over... this was quite new. ty
No problem! I've got a few videos just like it (And only minutes ago uploaded a new style of mythbusting) so be sure to check out others if you liked it.
I learned a lot, great stuff !
Good to hear Neiloss
This is dope stuff, do more!
Thanks man! I will aim to do at least one a week in the future. I had a lot of fun making this and love to hear stuff like this.
ooooh so much stuff i had no idea !! this is very well done, thank you for sharing this !
Thanks for watching glad you could learn some new things.
If you are going to die in a battle, consider trying to get your allies to roll all of their saving throws if you can, because if they succeed, you can help to revive them later instead of a resurrection scroll because if you leave your allies behind to escape the enemies will kill them while they are downed.
good info and good video, nice job dude
Appreciate it!
amazing work, crazy that it's the first video on your channel. feels very well produced and written.
i cant believe i missed so many of your tips on my early access run throughs, great help thanks for the vid!
Love the content, very high quality, and I dig the StarCraft music!
Insta sub
Thanks so much! Starcraft music fits everywhere it's like timeless
Can you do a guide on what all the surfaces do and how to create them for people coming from tabletop who have not played DOS2?
For example, acid reducing armor class by 2, poison giving disadvantage to attack rolls and so on?
Maybe talk about consumables in general (some, like arrows of darkness (no concentration!) are quite strong...)
Excellent content! I had no idea how to use some of that stuff ingame, but now I have many ideas, you got yourself a sub!
Amazing work for your first video! So excited to get started soon!
Thanks! You’re gonna play on console soon or pc?
I haven't played much and had no idea you could just throw things from surfaces around you. I thought they had to be in your inventory. This was a really good video thanks!
(also the tower to heaven was pretty funny, surely they will patch that madness)
I'm not sure how they can haha they have made climbing and stacking crates an important part for certain areas in the game so be accessible. Maybe they would place a limit on it? But yeah it's fun for now and I haven't seen anyone else attempt it so they might not patch it in time for release.
I think it´s fine to leave as-is. Only a madman will try to do something like that consistently, and it´s nice to have the freedom to do it if you just want to experiment/mess around. It´s up to the player if they want to cheese the game or not.
On a different note, to "realistically" fix this, they could add a weight limit to objects. Basically how much they can have stacked on top of them before they start taking damage. Which I believe already works for some traps, like that one log bridge near the swamp. (It´s been a while.) But it would be a pain to code it for every item, with no real benefit. (In my opinion.)
Just leave it alone. In Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 you also could throw boxes and barrels at enemies, but the weight influenced the damage. So there were people carrying a box in their inventory with tons of weight and instant killing bosses.
They never changed it, but still, it's too inconvenient to carry lots of boxes to throw/pile. Most people that did that in DOS were doing challenges, speedrun or just bullshitting the game for fun.
This was amazing. Did you try dipping weapons into the elemental areas that chromatic orb summons?
I tried them all yeah. Didn't seem to have any effect. Even tried the mindflayer blood and mindflayer chemicals lol
Great video (and music choice, gave me Starcraft 2 nostalgia), me and my friend are definitely using that crate tower strategy on our playtrough haha.
Starcraft will always be my number 1 game haha it's why I moved to Korea now. My name is inspired by Stormgate and Baldur's gate both being my upcoming games and both having Gate in the name
Great video 🙏🏾 I learned I few new things from this even though I played early access there are still some things I did not find out until just now, so thank you
sick video bro will link to all my idiot friends because obviously, none of these helped me because i am way too smart for that but they probably help my idiot friends- amirite everyone?
Oh trust me I have the same idiot friends for my group of 4 planned XD
Lost my fucking mind when I saw the Fortnite-ass box tower
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen for this game. Thank you!!!!
Bro you are VERY good at these videos. I’ve been a BG player since 1999 and follow all kinds of BG channels but you are the most efficient presenter of key info around. And your video reference content is actually relevant, rather than so many who just use gameplay b-roll for 15mins. Seriously you are very good. Must be a ton of work but you are skilled!
Thanks David. I’m just happy to see people appreciate it! I was mainly trying to create it as if it was a video I want to watch myself so it’s good to hear
moar
Very insightful video, especially regarding Improvised Weapon.
Fantastic video, loved the editing and information. Bring on the class guides, spell guides, guide guides!
Very informative and nice visual!
Impressed that this is your first video.
Well done! Look forward to much more!
Thanks a lot bro, this was super useful
This was fantastic. Excellent job mate. Looking forward to the next video as we ramp up to launch date!
I'm shocked to hear this is your first video. Incredibly well done, and I'll be sharing this with my party and taking notes on it. I'm not kidding when i say like 80+% of this was new info for me.
Can't wait to see your guide on all the Illusory Walls in the game ;)
It took me 5 videos and like 3 weeks... You definitly used well that "hide" action
this is one of the most useful videos i've come across just explaining the simple action mechanics in the game for a newbie like me. if you did one of these breaking down every single spell/action in the game it would help a ton of people. they don't even have to be that long. a simple 2-4 minute explanation video specializing in a single spell/action would get the most views from people who have paused their game because they've become stuck or find themselves in a bind. Thanks for taking the time to do this btw.
Glad to hear! I wanted it to be useful for a beginner and also have a lot of stuff veterans probably don't know about. It looks like I hit a good balance here.
Wow! This is an awesome first video! Even after 200 hours of Early Access there's always something to learn! I did not know about crushing damage on throwing weapons/objects. Also hadn't realised they changed the hide from a bonus action to an action. Thanks!
This video was so well made, that when you said it was your first i had to subscribe. This was truly well made!
Great first video man! Incredibly useful
Fab video, high quality and relevant tips. Cheers!
Some great tips here, especially the 'Leaning Tower of Crates'. Seriously tho, some very useful points covered and glad to be able to welcome a new content provider. Good job man u got my L/s
Much appreciated!
Your videos are fantastic, subscribed! Would love if you made a video like this covering basic or staple spells. Also a video explaining basic mechanics driving the game (like dice rolls, etc) would be hugely beneficial to folks new to this game.
great vid man. Very helpful. I knew a few of these but carrying the candle was fantastic.
Wow, what a great first video! I've played the game for 50 hours and I never knew you could pick up enemies and throw them. Amazing.
Only video you need! Lots of good information 🙌
Really loved the video man. Straight to the point with a bunch of great information. Keep up the great work!!!!
TY for the actually useful tips compared to most big channels. Good job!
Incredible video and tips, thanks for displaying the creativity of these seemingly simple moves!
GREAT VIDEO! So stoked for this channel to grow. This is the first and only channel that I hit like, subscribed, AND I turned on the notifications.
Congrats on your first video! Super useful info.
