This is perfect for people that want a desk with zero structural integrity.
lol
I love how the video creator liked this original comment lol
Thats rough as..
I think the point of the video was to give an idea of how to do it. Obviously you can sand it down and plane it if need be
If your going to do a 'how-to' video...at least be good at it!
Yeah that’s really poor work that…
To do this properly he should have uniformly prepared the board in a steambox… a steambox will slowly break the lignin bonds and allow you to shape it much more vigorously and without all that pre cutting… once the lignin hardens in the new shape, you’re basically done except for finishing.
This can be done at home with some prep… for small bends you dont need to steam the whole board, just your section… for small bends i use a wallpaper stripper as the source of steam and pipe it into a box that encloses the section of board to be bent… i have also used tubular plastic bags before todo a full board on a jobsite without a full length steambox.
If you’re making a permanent steambox more steam is better.
I think it looks nice
Fug
Letting it soak in the hot water will have been better then just pouring it on and the supposedly scolding hot water run off.
Letting plywood soak in water like that is bad for the glue adhesion. He should have just dampened the other side
Steam is the proper way to achieve this.
You just wanted to comment lol
@@Krashout00 lol 😂
@@veganpotterthevegan that isn't plywood.
Hey friend, best way to do this is to steam and soak the wood where you want to bend it and bend it slow, usually using a metal outline to hold it in shape and kiln dry it
I’m not even a carpenter and this just hurt to watch
show us how its done
@@MohammedAliPMwhy?
Carpentry and wood working are totally different things.
By ingenious they mean Indigenous sandals
I'm an amateur woodworker and this is the equivalent of a random person laying on top of the fruit in the store, that's the cringe here
See so many comments of people trashing this guys work but not making any factual points about what specifically is wrong with this. Specifically what’s the issue here, I’m not into woodworking.
He used too many cuts for the angles he wanted to create so there was a imperfect finish on that. Usually theres router bits for doing this that dont make a slot like shown here but more of a very pointy triangle shape that allows the bend to be "closed" when looking at it from up front. Also his choice of using super glue and dust from sanding was not exactly the best option, he should have used a wax based filler that has the right colour after applying the finish to the wood so it doesnt show these different shades in the bends. On top of that his choice of connecting the two pieces like this is slightly questionable. I mean in the end it worked and im sure it'll hold up for a while but its not exactly done professionally
Not very stronk. Simx out of tem
@@boratsagdiyev5679thanks man, that was insightful
Theres plenty of comments explaining why this is trash
What are you talking about? Nearly every critical comment explains its reasoning.
I don't think that is the same piece of wood. thickness looks different, and the wood filling you did at the end left a lot to be desired.
The first piece he cut was about 25mm then it somehow gained an extra 10/15 mm after lol
I thought he was cutting it for forms to pour concrete sidewalks on Bends 😆. It was poor cuts
@@antarcticwallscam2507 here we have Mr internet expert. Do you have a magic ruler you used to measure through the video?
@@baitornot4697 no but i can see its different
@@baitornot4697 lol you can see it’s thicker, and also it doubles in width
Yea I'd rather take the time and properly steam the wood and bend individual pieces to the desired shape, Then proceed with the rest of the assembly and shaping. This looks like something I'd expect to get from Wish.
Where do you think wish get them 🤔
Don’t you just love when people do this type of work in flip flops
Я сталелитейщик. И работаю с горячим металлом +1500°c в шлепанцах. Привет с Европы 😊
You need thinner cuts and way more of them closer together AAAHH
Also using a thinner kerf blade would have been better.. 1/16” widths on the cuts instead of 1/8”
it worked, so what 😀
@@samthing5961 it did work, just poorly.
@Daddy Chill He's probably already a better woodworker than you wil ever be.
Why not just bend a thinner plank without cutting? I haven't seen anyone do that but that doesn't mean you cant

Could have just bought it from lowes like that, that's how most of the boards they sell look anyway

very under-appreciated comment
If you use angled cuts when it's folded round it closes those gaps up much nicer.
Specifically, a pointed router bit instead of a miter/chop saw.
The exact angle bit you need depends on the radius of the curve and how many cuts you'll use.
@@williamdowling7718 yes a tapered router bit is perfect for this.

The structure and integrity of the wood ☠️

Did you see those soldiers from Hammerfell? They have curved tables! Curved tables!
Different bit of wood that bit looked split cause think he rushed it or should have made cuts deeper
🤣🤣🤣
*snap!* there goes the structural integrity
Finally... a wood bender
there are 2 kinds of people who do work like this in sandals. those who know precisely what they are doing, and those that lady consequence hasnt caught up to yet
So ingenious that my dad used this technique on his rounded countertops in the early 1970s.
And your Dad probably didn’t need to fill it up with super glue
Thanks for sharing-
No bueno. Sawdust to fill those big gaps lol
What would u use instead of sawdust ? I am a beginer
@@julien93140 I think there's something called wood biscuits. You put them in, apply a glue or water, and they'll expand to fit the space
@@canned3880 sawdust and superglue is an old trick that works well and looks good.
They didn't even fill the ginormous gaps they cut in it. They just wiped a bit across the top and tried to pretend that's the same table they show at the end

Perfect to add to the burn pile.
So that's how they make bent wooden desks.
Nope, its not
Hey, that's pretty good!
Looks very practical.
Maybe a little bit of wood veneer could hide that outside curve

Don't let the negative comments get to you. Everyone is so used to perfect carpentry/woodworking skills on CZcams that everything less than perfect is considered bad.
It may very well look rough, but you did something and made it work, and that should be applauded. I want to get into stuff like this, and I know for sure that it will look worse than yours, but that is not going to stop me from trying.
Keep up the good work!
I was thinking the same. I mean, it's not perfect. But oh boy, I can not do anything that is near to what he did. Personal opinion, beautiful result
We aren’t used to perfect carpentry, we’re used to competent carpentry. This is hot garbage, as evidenced by the fact that the finished product, which isn’t even level, isn’t the same piece they started with
Agreed, theres limited skill here and its not really teaching you anything other than how to do it incorrectly and, in frikkin flip flops????@@bumbalaaa
"got it, kids? Tomorrow, were gonna learn fire bending"
You heated the wrong side of the timber. This method softens and increases size of wood fibres, by heating the outside face your going with what the wood wants to do. Also your better of using steam rather than just throwing water ever where.
So to soften the wood its better to steam the outside of the wood ? Do you have recommendation of technics or tools to project the steam on the surface ? I am a beginner... thanks
@@julien93140 I just use an old school kettle that doesn't stop boiling and nothing to protect the face. Once complete leave to dry out then sand it up.
@@sumguyonabike8776 thank you ! 🙏
This must be similar to how they make those toys and even the wooden live lures :) but maybe a bit different. Thanks for showing me this friend. I have autism this gives me hope maybe I can still make awesome things like this once I get the tools someday
The table has a retro-futuristic look, I love it! Music soundtrack is great too!
Anjemm sangatt estetik dan sangat satisfaying wkwk🤣🤦
I don’t even know why I’m here but I’m somehow learning a lot about my tables for no reason
YOU ARE VERY CREATIVE ❤
Honestly never occurred to me they bend the wood to make them like that, I thought they just cut it out a very large wood block
There's a few master craftsman here in my country that used hot water to bend wood in order to craft Ships. It was one of the coolest things I've seen
How many splinters do you want?
YES
You should use a V cut. Then it will form a perfect curvature.
The best teacher and person is prophet Muhammad sallallahu.aalyhi.wa.sallam...❤
Try again...
Take my advice as suggestion, not guidance since I do not do this as a living, but;
Use a thinner blade, less kerf and cut the minimum notches required to get the bend angle. Soak the wood briefly in boiling water, don't let it heat unevenly like seen here. Don't use dry sawdust, mix a paste with your preferred adhesive and then apply it into the joint.
Homie, that’s a 90 degree bend in a 2x8 lmao.
Hi, do you have a specific product or brand you woyls use to fill the gaps as shown in the video ? I am just beginning... thanks
やる木かと思ったら違った
They also did that in the 1970s and 1980s! :)
It would look more better if you paint it
Залипуха, называется!
Не, ну а так вы молодец 👍
That's called kerfing wood..... done it many times for the smooth rounded finish for speaker box ports, followed by tons of sanding lol.!
its good for speaker boxes, but any application where you can see the edge it looks abit wack
I think this is a really cool video. I love seeing more low tech, or just effective and basic and not complex ways of doing things. Its not about avoiding difficulty, its about just getting it done. If it holds up for its intended purpose, its a good project and most importantly a fun way to spend your time living, making cool things.

100% true... My wood turning so hard this morning... So i poured some hot water to it... Now my wood flexible and lumpy...
Soooooo this is why the corner of the table is the first to go out
Better to vacuum seal three thin layers with glue in between to create a curve. That doesn't look like the intended radius and looks pretty bad. Voids and sawdust is not a good joint.
“you cant bend a wood door!”
“you know that and i know that, but between you and me this door looks pretty stupid”
my final challenge before fulfilling my role as a full fledged avatar.
My aunt always said that if you don't have anything good to say, you shouldn't say anything...

The jumpcut of defeat after pouring the water on it proofs not enough to bend it after many tries lol

A real woodworker would know that if you steam the plan properly, you do not have to cut in it to bend it.
fully bought the table, the wood wasn't that thick when you were cutting it and you can't just bend timber that thick
you can see the kerfs in the finished product dummy
No it does look like the same piece, and considering the poorly sanded i can see it was him who made that table lol
how did he turn 19mm Pine into a 50mm thick table, I know there are kerfs through the final piece, is this guy just showing you how to do it or what?
I think it's the same one... The finished work is kinda rough tho. I know someone who can make something similar but with many measured triangles. Doesn't leave any spaces in between but you need a steam bath for the wood.
He is showing a method for bending the wood, that he used for that table. Its not a walkthrought or diy of how he made the whole table...
make V-shape cuts.. that's way better for bending
good job with the featherboard, looks rlly even
It looks warped & distorted from every camera angle! You Need to watch some how to film videos my guy
Good demonstration of an idea that can be applied to many projects. A lot of egotistical comments here. I’m willing to bet half of the negative comments are coming from people who don’t even own a miter saw. I do though, and I will tinker with this idea for future projects.
And the commenters are right 😂 this is poorly executed

Anyone else wondering if a circular saw with a set blade depth wouldve been 100% easier than a chop saw
Bentwood furniture doesn't usually need to be cut like that... you soak it and bend it slowly with big frames. That's totally not the table the show at the end though.
The first bending looked like thcurve had several flat spots. Curious how you got rid of that
