Manic Mechanic
Episode 78
We take a look at the beautiful 1963 and 1964 Galaxie Dash Pad and defroster ducts before we install them. We show just how nice the the dash matches the original grain on the door tops, we show that care was taken in the production of the defroster ducts so that they match originals.

The front shot reminds me of the 63 Fairlane wagon that I had "back then".
Probably made by the same company, but I bought mine from Dearborn classics about 12 years ago and had it dyed at my local upholstery. Looks factory original and is nicely padded.
Found your channel a few weeks ago & sub'd. Ive been diggin the content and knowledge/info... Thanks!
Great show as always Jeff!

I did not know the defroster vents were available. that's great news! Now I can get rid of some of the noises coming from under the dash. Mac's auto has the original style clips for the dash pad. I'm guessing the studs are embedded in the dash pad that you have. But if someone gets a pad without them, the clips are available. I'll be watching your install of the dash pad with great interest. If I ever win the lottery, I plan to get one to replace the one that was removed on my car. I can't find anyone that reproduces the emblem on the door panel. Might have to find one from a parts car. If I had any, I'd send 'em to ya.
Good show . You are lucky , I have a 71 Thunderbird with a bad dash .
Just Dashes can fix that.
Can't wait for you to "dye" the dashpad. I have a black dashpad for a 65 Mustang I need to "dye" Palimino and need tips.

Defoster duct/ nozzle problem.
The hose carries a lot of velocity. When the air exits through the rapidly widening duct nozzle, the velocity drops so drastically that defogging is pretty poor. That is the factory way.
I found that narrowing the v shaped duct, making it thinner by 1/2 maintains more velocity and enhances defogging significantly.
If you are going to do a modern system upgrade, (Vintage Air etc) still pay attention to velocity.
Mine still has the hang under dash Mark 4 Allegro dated Aug 63 and still works fine.
I'm definitely a Gm person, ( my dad raised me that way he was a auto tech for close to 45 years) he hates fords and diesels🤣 he had 55 Ford before he went to GM and never looked back. My parents actually got married in a 64 impala convertible, they had Tennessee marriage license and an Alabama preacher, so they had to cross the state line to make it legal. Saying all that to say this I'm digging that Galaxie. Maybe with a gm running gear? Build ford tough with chevy stuff.👍
With my last name Nate? Neeewwww.
What happened to this car, it is what got me interested in your channel
We will be going to pick it up in a few weeks. And then we'll really get started on an earnest after that.
Anyone know the dimensions for the defroster hoses?
I think the hoses are probably the same size as 1965 Mustang. But I would contact Classic Auto Air and see if they can tell you for sure.
@@AutoRestoMod Thank you!
