    Its probably called Music because its useful to write music notes. The head and beams (horizontal lines) are broad while the music note stems (vertical lines) are thin.

    I enjoy your videos. You're good at pointing out the important qualities in art supplies, and good at highlighting the distinctions between different products/paint.

  • @Khamomil
    @Khamomil Před 8 lety +19

    The Music model is well adapted to writing music the old fashioned way. The orientation of thick and thin esp. is the important feature since fast notes are bound together by horizontal strokes that have to be thick to be read at a glance, while vertical strokes give no indication of pitch nor duration, which is why they can be thin.

    my grandfather had something similar to this one and he had given it to me for my 16th birthday. I never use it though because it's so valuable and expensive, and also because he saved a lot of money to buy the nib. Fountain pens are a big passion of mine.

    one of the reasons I'm learning calligraphy is because my handwriting can get pretty messy mostly, both in Arabic and in English, but my handwriting is better while writing in English if I'm careful enough, so, lots of people shun me for my handwriting, and you pretty much can guess the reason for why I want to learn calligraphy now 😂

    Very valuable reviews! Thank you so much. How is the ability of vertical down stroke line variation compared to the cross music? Thickness variation of thin downstroke vertical lines by angle on the cross music too? Are there any benefits over the cross music for drawing? If you had to choose wich one you would keep?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Před rokem

      This is a thicker version of Sailor Zoom nib so the default lines are broad to extra broad. Thickness will depend on the angle rather than up/down stroke of the pen. You can change the thickness of downward stroke while drawing by changing the angle.
      This pen is easier to draw with compared to music nib because the strokes are still considered consistent and easy to control. Music nibs are difficult to draw as the lines are either thin or broad, and it's not possible to get consistent width lines while you change angle of the pen. Music nibs are better used for calligraphy

    Hey I'm coming back from seeing this video already, but did you mention if you could cap the pen while there's still ink in the tip (the space you used as a dip pen mechanic)? I just want to keep this on my radar for when I can afford some good fountain pens.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Před 7 lety

      +Crud Muffin You can still cap the pen if there is ink between the top tab and nib. However, chances are the ink there will not stay. E.g. if you move the pen around, it is probably going to move around or out (messy).

    Great review! I really like your videos. Can you recommend a cheap fountain pen that would draw similarly to the nib you're using at the 7 min mark in this video? Something under $20 preferably. The problem I am having getting into fountain pens is that I draw fast and the few I've had so far can't really keep up.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Před 7 lety +1

      Check out the Duke 209 or Hero fountain pens with fude nib. It's difficult for pens that put out so much ink to have ink flow that can keep up when drawing fast. With this Sailor pen, you can, but other brands I see mixed results.
