    Ruined my voice doing Slipknot screams, but I'll definitely use this information when I recover.

      Sorry to hear that. Im pretty sure Corey Tayler also damaged his vocal cords by trying to scream like Corey Taylor. Just try to get plenty of water, sleep, and do some cardio exercise. When you exercise, everything heals faster. Your heart will pump more blood to all your tissues, including the vocal cords which are supplied by very tiny arteries. You can also get a "vocal tube" which will let you perform a vocal rehab exercise called phonation in water. When you are ready to get back into vocals, spend a few weeks working on the foundational skills like projecting your voice, and breath support. Hope make a full and speedy recovery.

    Yeah, mate, there are so many tutorials saying to do vocal fry and then just make it louder by projecting it. This does not work at all, though. It is a totally different sound and throat activity involved in vocal fry.
    Your "hum with distortion method" is what actually does work to gain access to fry.

    Bro ive literally been grinding to learn fry screaming and ive always felt like i was almost there, i watched literally every yt tutorial on it and kinda forced some trashy screams but I never seemed to completely get the right feeling. I also watched this vid in the past but didnt have the breathing and vocal cord control to really implement that stuff. Now i just came back to your video and followed all the steps and it just happened automatically at the last exercise :0 For context i was on the toilet and yanked out my fry scream xd dont wanna know what my neighbours think rn but imo it sounded pretty dope. Thx for ur tutorial!

    Thank you for this video. I've been trying for a while and even though I kinda feel like I somewhat understood what to do and maybe how it should feel, the sound I am producing is still too far away from a proper fry scream. That being said, I am far enough in to know that these tips are helpful! So, once more, thanks a lot!

    Thank you so much! Just found out about your channel and you're everything I needed. I think I'm a relatively skilled singer, but when it comes to distortion I am completely weak, and I think your channel might be the way for me to achieve at least a minimal level of skill since I cannot afford lessons. Btw is Fry Scream the technique used by In This Moment's Maria Brink? I love her to death

      sounds like fry screaming but its difficult to find songs by them where I can hear her fully scream without a lot of effects on her voice. One thing I’ve noticed, is that most vocalist, who sing more than they scream, use fry screams because its very hard to switch between false cord screaming and clean singing. It’s not impossible. It just takes a lot of practice to switch between using your false cords and then clean singing on the fly.

    hello, your channel was very useful for me. Thanks for your videos. I guess I got fry scream but not sure. I have no pain in throat and it sounds loud. I got results in like 5 days by a lot of practice. can I send you audio on gmail so you will confirm if it fry scream or "whisper"?

    If we are a women, is falsetto the same as head voice? It seems like the answer is no... The humming exercise definitely makes a lot more sense than anything else I have watched on here TY! Edit; I looked it up and no head voice is not the same. This is definitely my problem. I'm always in mix voice.

    • @Scream-Theory

      Yea I think those terms like head and chest voice tend to cause more confusion for learning metal vocals. That's why I usually I usually use words like "falsetto". Im really just referring to the highest pitch voice you can comfortably sing with. But im glad this video helped you. Fry screaming is tough to learn. Most of the time people figure it out through many repetitions of trial and error. Its much easier to guide someone over a live lesson, because I have found that knowing person's learning style and giving appropriate feedback helps them learn fry screaming more than anything else. Especially if a person is stuck and can't make any progress with it.

      Yeah If i really want to get this, I'll probably have to take lessons. I think it would be cool to have super clean vocals and also be able to fry scream. Thanks again! @@Scream-Theory

      The only difference is the degree to which your vocal folds come together. Singing terminology is not helpful for the beginner. If you work at your clean vocals and put effort into it all this will make more sense. There’s no easy solution.

      @@noimspartacus4357 The issue is that clean vocals are all I have and I thought it might be fun to be able to add in a fry scream. I used to do vocal covers on here, but I privated all of them many years ago. I would have to go to a teacher to help me unlearn how to do clean vocals. 😂

    Hey again it is so amazing content and really helped me learn a lot. Thank you. Do you have a Patreon or is there another possibility to donate?
    I would also be interested in a guide to more extreme vocals like goblin voice and some gutturals.
    Thanks a LOT

      I plan to make a Dickie Allen vocal analysis/tutorial at some point. I do have a guttural video though.
      Also yes I use Buymeacoffee instead of patreon. I almost forgot to add the link into the description of this video. Its there now. Thank you!

    By the way, out of curiosity: the screams that are/were signature for people like Oli Sykes, Corey Taylor, Danny Case or Chester Bennington - were those fry screams?

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Well Oli Sykes used false cord screams all the way up to their album Count Your Blessings, when they used to be a deathcore band. Then he switched to using fry screams when they changed their style.
      Im not a huge Slipknot fan so I don't know the full extent of Corey's vocal abilities but it sounds like he produces his distortion with his false cords
      Chester Bennington fry screamed

    • @pejter717
      @pejter717 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Scream-Theory cheers for the reply.
      I though that Oli was using normal screams up to the moment when he messed up his voice and only after that switched up to fry. But then again I did not become aware of BMTH until a couple of years ago.
      I thought correctly then that Chester was using fry (and by that extent Danny Case from From Ashes to New, which is like a more metalcore heavier copy of LP does the same, because his screams are very similiar to Chester's).
      As for Corey I think he had the same issue as Oli and screwed up his voice due to doing normal screams and then he switched up to a different (safer) method. But I was not sure which. They mostly sound like fry screams, but I am far from a pro to tell the difference.

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@pejter717 Yea I couldn’t remember if Corey and Oli had vocal injuries but it does not sound like they were screaming with good technique at certain points in their careers. Oli was basically just yelling in Suicide Season. Corey was probably FC screaming but using way too much true cord engagement

    • @pejter717
      @pejter717 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Scream-Theory that makes sense. Corey was in a messed up place and time in life when it happened to his voice as he wanted the music to sound as raw and brutal as it could be at that time. I mean "Iowa" was sort of like deathcore of nu-metal. But then again, current deathcore vocalists are only using FC screams, so it was not a good choice for him.
      Oli was just being Oli, I guess.
