This is the greatest engine testing and dyno video on tube, no profanities no dip shit music or pictures of personal items . Thank you very much for putting out this video especially a video on hemi power.
The lesson here folks is that the sniper intake is designed specifically for boost, which is why you can bolt a Hellcat TB to it. I'm fairly certain the 6.4 intake didn't have active runners working properly. I've seen north of 20 HP on the dyno between the 6.4 & 5.7 intake.
Serious gains on that stage 1 kit.
Great video! Thanks for giving some Mopar Hemi love 🙂
Way back in 2008-2009 I had a srt 6.1 charger with a Ed Curtis cam almost identical to the stage 2 in this video. (218/224 @ 112). That car was basic bolt on, long tubes, cammed, 3200 stall and for a long time was the quickest “cam only” 6.1 in the country. It ran an 11.6 @ 117 with a 1.59 60ft. That little cam screamed. Id race guys with 440’s and they’d only pull on me at the very top.
what other mods you have
thanks for all of the effort you put into this , I hope it pays off for you !!
Great video Dane. I really enjoyed the cam comparisons, and was surprised by the increase.
This is a fantastic video!!! Thank You So Much! David
Nice work, I like how low you start the pulls.
Great video! Very helpful!
Glad to see y’all giving the hemi’s some love. I see y’all at Moparty each year.
Haven’t heard the name Scoggin Dickey in 30 years and then BAM!!! Came across from feed….awesome
Very informative information will for sure copy the most stage 3 set up and out in my truck 🫶🫡
Too good...... Sounds Op 👍 great job
That stage 2 is the way to go. The best bang for your buck for the street. Even any type of forced induction the stage 2 would be perfect.
I have a 2015 5.7 4x4 truck with long tube headers and full exhaust and tune but im looking to wake it up with a cam swap. Definitely enjoyed lots of good info to think about
Great info. Thanks for sharing
Great video
Just ordered a stage 3 kit. Can’t wait☺️
Also got a 2600 torque converter, hellcat oil pump.. looking for a decent pair of headers…
Awsome video thank you
Excellent display of how duration and lobe angle effect power. Too often ppl get caught up in lift numbers.
And we'll have a video coming out soon on why these don't need ginormous amounts of lift with a stock head.
@@Sdpartscenterand piston to valve clearance is an issue on stock piston.
People will watch this and still pick the wrong parts...
Stage 2 really looks like the way to go
Very interesting!
Cannot wait until my stage 2 get here in the mail. Will have videos along the way since i can't find any on here
Gentlemen, thank you for this video and information. I was NOT expecting the results with the 6.4L intake manifold!! That really surprised me, to say the least, as everything the interwebs has to say is that it will improve bottom-end torque, as well as upper-RPM HP numbers. Not so, says the all-important dyno. However, I would've like for you to have posted the graph with the 6.4 intake, to see if there was any pickup (better street characteristics) along the way to 6500RPM.
Because I have a '14 Challenger, with the 5.7, I will likely go with the Stage 2 package. I still I drive my car almost every day and it seems to be the most manageable with great gains over the stock bumpstick. My Tremec does not care about the stall speed, as that's dictated by my feet action. 😆
Again, thank you for this info. Keep the videos coming with the Gen 3 Hemi's. It would be cool if you guys could collaborate with Frankenstein Performance, southeast of you in Weatherford, to have some mild porting done to those crate heads. Then, re-run the tests with the three cams. 😎 -- Ronbo --
That 6.4 intake has active runners controlled by the factory ecu, they are not using a factory ecu so no active runners.
@@joshkrause2977 The active runners were controlled manually.
Great video. I wonder how the Holley single plane intake with carb would rank on this list.
THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!!
Is it open headers?
Thought about the usual "LS" 5.3 in my Lexus IS300. But now that I see the Mopar is a front sump.. Hhhmmmm!!!
(The stock pig 2jzge is a front sump!)
I’d love to see the stage 3 with the holly hi ram mixed with the stock TB. I’m really on the fence about intakes but I really think the high ram will give better torque
I tried to get one for the video but they were unobtainable at the time. We will do it on the 6.4 when we do that one.
I wonder how the stage 2 & 3 cams would work with a 4" crank and "maybe" the 6.4 intake.
What you got for a 5.7 from a 2005 Model, i saw your cams where done on a 2009 or newer Hemi. Info would be nice i want to rebuild mine and want some Cam added to it. So far all your info is very on point & the performance sheets.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Did you test a tighter LSA on stage 3 like the stage1 el Chapo from 112 to 108 LSA
Great video. I'm installing a new remanufactured 5.7 in my 2012 ram 1500 4x4. I liked your stage 1 or el chappo cam. And your stage 2 cam. I'm looking for great hp all around and torque. What cam do you have that will give me what I'm looking for. If I can make that 460,475 hp ,that's what I'm looking for . Please let me know what you recommend.
Interesting
Swapping out cams without removing the heads👍
We just posted another tech video on how to do this!
Was the active intake runner system enabled during the pulls on the 5.7 intake? If so, that would explain why the sniper lost so much torque over the stock manifold. I was also curious on your timing cover and belt set up. Where did you source the timing cover, idler pully, and how long is the belt?
Would have liked to see you use the 6.1 intake
Wanna see it done with a ported 6.4 truck intake & 87mm TB. Would be a nice little combo.
Love the El Chapo cam, would it be acceptable to use with a supercharger?
Planning on getting the stage 2 cam next week for my ram 1500 it’s my daily would I be ok with the 8speed converter not looking on going to the drag strip just want more power but as a daily truck
Very cool stuff, strange about the 6.4 intake, I would have expected it to pick up with the variable runners
I thought the same, but wonder if more tuning would have a positive impact
Thumbs up. Do you have any recommended installers in the Midwest?
For the Stage 2, would you need a higher stall converter. I have a 5.7 auto 8speed
Could you do stage 3 with a ported and polished 6.1L srt8 intake manifold?
What brand, length, and width of push rods did you use for the El Chopo and the Stage 2? Bought this cam for my 22 5.7 challenger. Need correct length of push rods.
be very curious how the truck 5.7 and truck 6.4 intakes affect the numbers. the truck 5.7 makes 10hp over the car in stock trim
Do the mds plug and cam bolts and stuff come in these kits or you have to buy it all separately
Have you done any comparisons with your cams VS just using a 6.4 BGE or SRT8 cam?
Was wondering, if I dropped in a stage 2 or stage 3 camshaft in my 5.7, what else would I need to mod to accommodate for the power? New to mopars sorry lol
Lifters as well..engine got a full rebuild
Great video and lots of good useful info. I see it's a crate motor, but is it a 2003-2008 or 2009+ block and heads? In other words, Eagle engine.
the cams look like 2009 up
Really considering a stage 2 kit for my 2010 Ram 5.7L. What should I look out for?
I was wondering if you have suggestions for me I have a 2013 ram 5.7 I'm putting the chopstick cam in it is there anything I should maybe do and i did already get a 3000 stall
Got a 2020 Durango RT nothing Done To It thinking of Going Stage 3 cam kit for the first mod what type of gain you think I can get
I’m looking to cam my 23 durango 5.7. It’s my daily but want as much reliable power I can get. Which cam would be your recommendation for this platform
Wonder what the Edelbrock intake would have done.
Which springs did you guys run ?
Comp cams beehive enough ?
so im a little late to the party here and admittedly only about halfway through the video. but what do you think the additional power gains would be with a ported intake and ported heads? because i plan on the 392 intake, ported heads, headers and a cam on my 17 Charger RT
Ported heads and intake would definitely make a substantial difference. We had limited time on the dyno as it is used every day for customer engine builds.
I have a 2015 charger r/t 5.7 road and track with mds and idk where to start j want a cam its completely stock i want more power but reliability what can i do
Have you guys tried the 6.1 intake manifold?
Have me a rumble bee and think it needs that rumble from El Chapo cam
So I missed it. Did you disable this synchropher? Curious to see how the polls would react with the synchro phaser engaged
Just curious do you have any cams for the earlier 5.7?
Do you guys make any cams for the 6.1 L hemi?
Crazy how I paid a guy to dyno tune my 5.7 eagle with long tubes and Tsp stage 2 cam non vvt non mds and upgraded valve springs on fresh heads and only put 369/370 to the ground through the 5 speed. Thinking how glad a tuner he is ... this makes me sad to know I have uncammed my car because it couldn't pass emissions because of a bad tuner
Nice one!
What push rods and lengths did yall use?
Hey what's a guy gotta do to get that tune for that stock run?
How did you activate the short runner on the 6.4 manifold? I was a little confused did you just run it once on the short runner once on the long or did you activate the runner during the pull?
We did once on the long runner and once on the short runner. We weren't able to sweep it during the pull (we could have, but we didn't have the SRV harness).
The gains between the two still weren't anything worth writing home about.
Is the "Stage 3" cam a good cam to use with boost?
So basically stage 3 is all the sauce. I want that in my 5.7 rcsb ram.
I've watched this video several times and I was wondering what year model that 57 is? PS I have a 2010 Challenger RT where's the 6-speed, that being said I'm seriously considering one of your cam kits.
This is for the later VVT and MDS equipped 5.7.
If you're looking for that, feel free to give us a call, there are options out there but we don't have a specific cam grind for your setup.
What is the maximum timing you reached at wot
Do you guys have the wheel horsepower numbers for the stage 3 cam
can anyone let me know what kind of valve spring tool that is
I have a Ram 1500 5.7 250,000 miles doesn't burn any oil runs really great but I have a knock I want to put a cam and lifters in it I was thinking about the stage 2 do I have to change the springs and the push rods
Yes order the kit and you'll be in good shape
What size push rods for the El Chapo and brand do you recommend? For my 22 5.7 hemi Challenger. Also are they the 3/8 or 5/16?
We run the manley 6.8/8.1 5./16 pushrods
What year spread are these? Kinda new to the Hemis.
But i got an '01 Dakota base, reg cab short bed manual transmission!
9.25/3.55's should be fun!
2009+ Hemis.
Should've tried the 6.1l intake. You more than likely wouldve gained more with the stage 3 camshaft.
Do you still have any test cams left?
Did you use a cam phaser lock out or limiter for the stage 2 cam? Thanks!
Locked it out. We didn't have the vvt setup on the holley so it is apples to apples comparison.
Great results! But, what manual transmissions are there that can handle the torque??
It will be a "swap" into a nonstick platform.
Tremec tr6060 will handle a ton and they came behind these engines and the 6.4 and hellcat engines factory in rt and srt vehicles. That’s probably the best option
Yeah. What he said 👆
@Sdpartscenter On the pull with the 6.4 intake, did yall have the active runners enabled?
No way they had that active.
The runners were tried in both positions. The switch point is 4000 RPM. There was a difference in the dyno numbers below that 4000 RPM mark, however, neither position had a real gain over the stock intake manifold.
Is the Gen 3 Hemi 5.7l Stage 1 cam kit (SDRH213219-KIT) compatible with a 6.4L stroker kit (392)? Are the kits in stock in store for pickup?
Question about the stage 3 cam. How would this cam do with boost?
And what is the manifold you syarted with? Did is also have active runners?
Thanks!!
We started with the stock 5.7 intake, it doesn't have active runners.
The cam would do fine with boost but we do have some other custom grinds that are not on the website that would be better suited.
@Sdpartscenter thank you. I already have the stage 3 with a stock intake from a truck and I hate the position for the throttlebody. I'm trying to find a good replacement for it. I was disappointed with the holley intake as it's a good position for my plans of a supercharger and makes life easy for piping.
Eagle head engine ??
Are any of the cams compatible with 07 5.7 pre eagle? It does not specify online when I looked
As of right now we don't offer any of the non VVT profiles.
Im installing your stage 3 kit in my 5.7 challenger right now. I have a question, which shims do I use on the valve springs?
The springs we sent with that order only require one shim. We changed the springs we supplied as they are different from what was in the video.
Thank you
Should have used the 6.1 intake
Did you have the active runners installed with the 6.4 intake manifold and msd window switch?
There is no way there should have been a loss with the 6.4 intake I grantee the runners weren't activated.
The 6.4 intake on my other Challenger was a great addition. I had already installed the stage 2 hrt comp cam. I had lost some power down low. But the 6.4 intake manifold brought back that low end and I felt a great pull throughout my rpms.
Did you guys put in a window switch to take advantage of the intake runners on the 6.4 intake manifold?
That’s a 5.7 intake manifold
@@cordellspeer9151@ minute 13:20 there is a 6.4 intake mani on the engine
If i could afford it
It definitely time
My truck is a pre eagle
345 5.7 at 276k valvecover are starting to leak am sure the headgasket and lifters cam are ready to be replaced a long with the timing set and waterpump Thermostat. Shoot id even replace the oil pump to i like my truck even though she flaking in spots and the seat are need replaced
Great video. Would have liked to see the 5.7 with the 6.1 srt intake with the 2nd and 3rd stage cams
Seriously thinking of getting the stage 3 cam kit for my 2.8 liter kenne bell blown 6.1 in my 2010 6 speed srt8 challenger
@@dougkreutz7701VVT cams will NOT fit a 6.1
This company has been racing cars back to the mid 50s if I remember right.
Maybe not the same people but I’m sure they have a good rep or they wouldn’t still be doing business.
Of course pick your posin and live or die by it.
Would like to see what the Edelbrock Victor efi manifold could do.
Not run well on a 5.7 is what it would do. You really need to stroke up to 426 cubes to use it well.
Could I push 7000 rpms on the stage 2 & stage 3 cams??
You can push 7000 Rpm with these cams, however, the Hemi is a little bit unique. They make mountains of torque early on and the cars are heavy. The extra RPM will have those cams falling off on power. The best is to shift at about 6500 and keep the car using the torque to get the car moving.
Which ones would you guys recommend for a daily driven ram 1500 2014 5.7? I kinda want that chop sound lol
The El Chapo would work, we actually have the camshaft we used for the dyno run for sale at the moment at a reduced price.
If you're interested give us a call. 800-456-0211
You still have the demo chop for sale?
@@Sdpartscenter ...how much does the Stage 2 cam cost??
I don't like that you didn't run the holleu intake till it nosed over, looked like it was headed to 7000rpm which would have netted more HP gain and generally faster ET....
But the REAL question is does any of this kit, fix the lifter failure issues?
Typically no, you need a high volume oil pump for that. Deleting the mds helps a little.
Taking a stock bottom end Hemi past 6500 RPM is just asking for a rapid unscheduled disassembly. Grab another gear and use the Hemi's unique torque curve.
2019 Charger 6.4L. Have you done a comparison for the 6.4? Looking to get into the 500+ hp range, daily driver, with a nice sound. Tired of boosted 4 4 bangers and GT's hurting my family boats feelings... No mods done to the engine yet.
Check out the Cam Motion Titan 1 camshaft
@@vortech3453I agree with this notion commotion titan 1 with ported intake manifold 👍
@@whoami350No need to go so extreme im sure long tubes,CAI,Bigger throttle body, and tune should do the job
6.4 stuff is in the works right now.
want to put a cam in by built 5.7. 6.1 crank, mahle pistons and rods, and eagle heads. what cam would you recommend for 8-10 pounds of boost? thanks
6.1 crank and 5.7 are the same best bet is a high volume high pressure oil pump and gapped rings to 28 top and bottom. Cam and stall with rear end gearing and good cleaning of heads and intake manifold. I have to see about the turbo part bc in reality at 7.75psi it should on paper almost make 600 engine 480-490 wheel but pushing more than that you will need floating rods and Pistons and double check them valve seats.
@@CarlosLopez-js2oi ok thanks for the info. You don’t think I’ll need to play it safe with the 6.1 crank? I know it’s a forged 5.7 crank I just don’t know how much the stock one is really capable of reliably. 600 wheel would be perfect
@@jacobwest5070The 5.7 crank is VERY strong; can hold well over 1000 hp
