  • Hey guys, felt like playing some AC1 today and I thought I would make an Arsuf video. This is my attempt at looking cool/speedrunning Arsuf. Could I do better? Yes, but I don't have the patience to, lol. Hope you guys enjoy, and as always, thanks for watching.

    I appreciate that when you countered Robert's grab and threw him to the floor, you didn't run over and assassinate him instantly but instead waited for him to recover and attack you once more so you could counter with the cool Hidden Blade animation. It made this semi final fight much more fun to watch.

    the two things that occasionally screw you over with this method are random guards running in for support and hitting you with their sprintstrike from nowhere, and when the staggered guard suddenly goes full roadblock because you started sprinting while in combat lol
    I still remember when I first realised those stagger animations were good for more than just getting an unblocked hit in, best day of my gaming life (right after the one when I realised altair could vault) never again has a game motivated me this much with its borderline hidden mechanics, what a gem

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 3 lety +5

      Yea, there’s definitely room for improvement here, and I’ll probably get around to it sometime after Valhalla. I think the biggest thing that screws me over is that I have to focus my energy on putting away Altaïr’s sword every time I lock onto an aggro’d enemy, lol

    Boy, I can't see some of these stagger animations at all. I don't know how you guys can even do this semi-consistently, let alone that one time Leo killed like, 14 guys without breaking his chain
    I also wish there were a workable glitch to remove weapons in this without screwing with the game files every sequence. That auto sword draw looks really annoying. I've been able to do this with every subsequent game in the Desmond saga, although I'm having a bit of trouble replicating it in AC3 lately. Walking the streets with no visible weapons is totally the Assassin way

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 3 lety +11

      Arsuf is the hardest place to shock and awe because there are just so many guards that the one who’s cowering can literally be anywhere, so it’s very easy to miss compared to when you’re dealing with like, 4-5 guards. Other than that, a technique that I use is re-centring the camera in the middle of the action camera cuts to have it go back to normal so I can start looking for the enemy who’s cowering even before Altaïr finishes his counter-kill/grab break. Try that out, it changed my effectiveness with shock and awe in a big way, so hopefully it’ll help you out as well.

    Remember how they removed the crossbow from this for historical accuracy?

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 10 dny

      No. The crossbow was removed from AC1 because the developers found that it was too unbalanced and they wanted to ensure that the primary stealth weapon remained the Hidden Blade. The "historical accuracy" myth was invented by people on the internet after the game's release. Crossbows did exist during the Crusades and it would not have been historically inaccurate for Altair to have one.

      Yea, it’s just something that I constantly have to focus energy on instead of watching to see who’s attacking me, and in such a long sequence of combat, I’m bound to make a mistake eventually. You’ll notice a few instances of Altaïr being uncooperative with me in here, too, which is just ugh, lol. Abusing the 'fear & distraction' mechanic like this is almost cheating. At times, it felt like you were mocking the game's AI system.
    Cool concept, for sure, but it ends up being just repetitive stabs with the occasional counter.
    I've played this sequence 100 times in a variety of styles and I would say the best-looking and most exciting is the 'Assassin in a Hurry' style, whereby Altair is killing somebody every three seconds, relentlessly making rapid Dagger attacks and switching between weapons to achieve the highest possible variety of kill moves. Needless to explain, flawless countering throughout the run.
    Important to kill all off Robert's men by countering with the Hidden Blade, before humiliating Robert with a long sequence of dodges and unexpected Dagger stabs in front of all the soldiers.
    How you finish him is up to you. My preference is a Hidden Blade counter, though it's unfortunately unpredictable which animation plays out. I might make a video. :)

      @rishabhanand4973 Před 10 měsíci +2

      i can agree about it being repetitive but disagree about it feeling like cheating. One, it was an intentional mechanic put in by the developers. 2, it is by no means easy to do. One, you have to figure out who is the vulnerable target and then get to him fast enough to exploit it. If you can bring down an army in this game by a chain of shock and awe kills, you deserve the kills. You sound like you're good at this game but i assure you most people can't do it that easily.
