From bull redfish to yellowfin tuna, Venice is a fisherman’s paradise.
However, it’s also a very remote area with deceptive waters, so it can be dangerous if you’re not careful.
In this video, we’ve got Capt. Mark “Hollywood” Johnson from FloridaKeysFunFishing.com, who guides in Louisiana a few months out of every year, breaking down how to safely plan a fishing trip here.
    You’ll learn:
    - How to prepare your equipment before taking the trip
    - What NOT to do when going to Venice
    - Where to stay
    - How to safely navigate Venice waters (they’re always changing)
    - And much more

It is going to be my first time, thanks for your video by the way.
How much a fishing guide will cost, and where can I contact them?

Bring an extra prop and lower unit for when you lose one too, LOL! It's a total different game, you WILL find a sandbar that wasn't there a month before!

I figured the keys would be more “down here” than Louisiana....Js

Here is one more tip--and I am not even from Louisiana. EVEN IF you are the most self-reliant person on earth--get the guide just the same. Even if only the first time. Nothing "jump starts" even a good fisherman like going out with a pro FROM that area. Watch top paid fisherman from the circuit on their TV shows--THEY get a guide, humh, why would that be? And your own rig--leave it at home, fish your local area and if you really are--that good, maybe a guy like this will pay YOU--when he comes to your area. You also don't have the wash down--your job is to fish, then go to a hot shower, go out to dinner. And check to see if they will let you take a few home on your flight, or your drive. My 2 cents. Ps thanks for being upfront about catch and release--I'm not a radical and do not want to bring home "a haul", but I do favor a few fillets, especially if I am catching a species I have never had in my area. I think there must be something between the extremes of too much take and no take.

I do plan to return to target YFT in the future, but the first time me and my friend went it was just a terrible experience (short of someone getting injured). Will never recommend or book with that outfit.

What outfit. Good to know so other people don’t get hosed.

@@pelicanbay2006 That's the thing. Voodoo Charters is highly regarded as a very good charter service. I'm willing to accept our trip was a one-off, but next trip will go with someone else.
