high post processing will help with the edges of say someones skin and clothes. say u have a scene outside and u want to change the lighting of the scene, u can add post processing (which can also be pushed passed its bar slider limit by left clicking holding and dragging ur mouse inside the number box for the slider) and it will give those shadowed highlight on ur person to enhance the scene add a little blur and u got accurate scene shadows
Excellent video, Bernd! Thanks so much for the macro, keep being awesome!
Thank you so much! Auf so ein Tutorial für die depth map hab ich schon lange gewartet. Mega Anwendungsbeispiele
As always, very detailed. Thank you.
Your stuff is always so good. Thanks for help you've given me that you weren't aware of.
Great delivery - you're the best.
Thank you Bernd. Very creative use of depth maps, plus a few tools thrown I wish I knew existed (like Time Stretcher to save a LOT of AI computational time on stills!), plus a very handy Macro. What's not to like? Thanks again.
The tracking method at 21:00 blew my mind. I’ll have to put that on slo mo loop and figure that one out. Thank you for yet another eye opening instruction 😊
During editing, I thought for a minute if I should cut it out since it's slightly off-topic, but then I thought someone might like it and I decided to keep it in the tutorial 🙂
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Great video. I learned a lot about creating depth maps from scratch using gradients. I might try that in my future projects. My favorite use of the depth map is in 3D space. I like to use the depth map with a displaced 3D to turn the flat image into a 3D scene, and then use a virtual camera to move around in that space. I would love to see you do a tutorial on using depth maps in 3D space to create animations.
Great idea as well. Have tried it a few times. But for best results I usually ended up doing a lot of manual painting & or card projection etc. But you're right it does sound like a cool future tutorial!
High quality information. Thx.
Thank you so much😍
good job, i learned alot here, thanks. i always have the same issue you mentioned, and you provide a nice soulution. i found the new relighting effect have a lot of same issue like depthmap. will you share some knowledge in next video?
Maybe this is something that you will cover in the follow up tutorial you mentioned, but using the depth map as a mask will just... mask the blur. Not change the amount of blur but instead give a ghosting/hazy effect in any areas where the depth map isn't pure black or white (the black and white areas will be fully blurred or sharp). To get a "proper" result natively, there's the VariBlur or the more advanced/better looking Tilt-Shift Blur (which I think is only available in DaVinci Resolve Studio). Hopefully this is something you will go into in the follow up. Ignoring this particular thing (first time I've found something that just felt wrong) your tutorials really are best in class:) Looking forward to your next vid!
Indeed. That's the reason for the follow up tutorial. Even the tools you mention can still cause some edge problems and for best results you can look at plugins like Frischluft. But yes... coming up soon
@@VFXstudy Ah, of course... Phew.. I should know better than doubt you, haha. Yeah.. great that you go into third party solutions too! Maybe some stuff from We Suck Less too as an alternative to Frischluft (though to be honest I'm a bit hazy on if there ever appeared something comparable). Anyways, as always, looking forward to it:)
Great video. We do need more upto date Fusion studio standalone / Davinici Fusion studio tutorials like camera tracking and more advanced multipass compositing with EXR files as well.
Thanks. Good idea. Though when saying "up to date" - don't be afraid to look at some older tutorials as well. E.g., working with exr passes hasn't changed that much since - I don't know, Fusion 7 or whatever... Likewise I do have 3d camera tracking tutorials and you might want to look at the spaceship tutorial I did some years ago. has a lot of that.
@@VFXstudy is it possible to do scene reconstruction in fusion like C4D does with the 3D camera tracker?
@@VFXstudy Fantastic. I'd love some Fusion standalone tutorials as well.
As a blender user the suggestions made are good. I’d also be curious about integration of content between blender and fusion/davinci.
@xanzuls usually it doesn't matter if it's Fusion standalone or Fusion tab in Resolve - the full set of Fusion native tools are identical - so for most stuff there isn't any difference. I tend to use Resolve for tutorials since some Resolve users will probably skip the tutorial if they don't see the Resolve interface whereas most Fusion standalone users usually know what to do to follow along in Fusion Studio 😉
Great tutorial, helped me do what I was trying to do. Thanks for that!
Also, your intro hits like a horror movie lmao.

GREAT
Nice macro. :O Thanks a lot! Should this work on newest version bc I can't see any change when using "Resulting Map Adjustment" sliders etc.
It should. Don't think the depth map was changed in the upgrade though I haven't used it recently.
Great Video. Looks like they took out the resolve version of depth map too :-(
great
Wonderful again, thank Bernd :-) In Fusion Studio, I only have the "Depth Blur" and "Change Depth". Is that because I'm in Fusion 17?
Yes, this came in 18 I think. Or maybe even 18.5,...
Make a video on crowd replication in fusion 16 Please
Good idea, do you mean the simple trick of filming actors multiple times and combining or more like CG crowd replication. The later is possible to some degree but not that easy...
Hi there, I'd like to humbly submit a request for a video on tips and tricks for optimizing render times in fusion. I understand there are ways you can cache and lock sections of a fusion comp that you are done with so that when you render the comp it just pulls from the cache of the locked section. And I think there is some sort of way you can use savers and loaders to do the same. But I'd really appreciate a deep dive into this because my renders are routinely less than one frame per second. I am sure there are other tips and tricks too to improve render speeds. Thanks for all you do!
Yes, you can do a right-click and cache any node. Can help if there are really heavy computations before that node. Loader and saver node are the manual alternative - also did a tutorial on those some time ago. I always find it tough to give really generic tips on performance though....
Tiem saving.. very COOL!! thank you
Do you think a depth map for a sky replacement is a good idea?
Hey bernd are you giving any discount offers on your courses in black friday sale just asking?
Hi, yes you can use coupon code blackfriday2023. It should still work for a few days. I shared it via email but maybe I post it on social media for "cyper Monday" 😉
Hi,
I have a more general question regarding your suggested workflow. I shoot CLOG almost all of the time. As you know, Fusion processes are before the Color Page processes. I normally apply the CST on the Color Page along with other color grading. But, on the Fusion page, log footage looks quite washed out.
All that said, what do you suggest as a workflow when in Fusion so that it has a post-CST appearance? I could use the CST in Fusion then revert it before Media Out.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Fusion should work in linear. You can add cst nodes in Fusion to go from Camera space to linear timeline space after media in and then another cst before Media out to go back.
Hey Bernd! How did you toggle the depth map node to only output alpha channel at the beginning?
Turn the "Depth Map Preveiew" on or off. (And of course set the viewer to Alpha channel where needed.
Hi sir I recently bought your fusion course and its really great but same time I was practicing my skills and found one rolling text effect animation tutorial in after effect so I was trying to create the same in davinci resolve but didn't make it so can you please help me out
Don't know what effect you mean by rolling text. Credit roll is an example in the course.
Thank you for the tutorial. DM is very laggy in davinci. my hardware rx 6750xt,16gb, R7 5800x, 1-2 fps in better and 10 fps in faster mode. is it a da vinci issue. will da vinci resolve it?
It is a heavy AI tool and it is slow. I recommend caching via Fusion Disk Cache or rendering it out. Possible that it got a bit faster in v19 - some of the AI tools get faster - typically in combination with the latest hardware. But this is pretty much the heaviest tool in Fusion computation wise.
Unrelated to the video, but I gotta ask. Is there a way to make the node graph fullscreen (by pressing a key or a shortcut)? For example, by pressing the space button it would make it fullscreen, by pressing it again, it would return to normal...
Would be great to have, but don't think so. It used to be F4 until Fusion 9, It even worked on the Viewers and on the spline editor, but with the Resolve interface that feature kind of broke.
@@VFXstudy That's sad to hear but thank you for replying :)
Hello dear. I would like to know what mouse and keyboard do you use? or which one do you recommend for video editing?
Logiech keyboard, Mojo Silent mouse (vertical mouse). But I like those because they don't take much space and are reasonably silent. Mouse only has 2 extra buttons which is fine for me. Vertical, I find ergonomical and more comfortable. Others prefer gaining mice with many more buttons or keyboards with extra function keys etc. Just try and see what works for you. Everyone has different preferneces.
@@VFXstudy Thank you so much
Would a deflicker node help?
Good idea - it might a little, though I tried once with a strong temporal noise reduction (which can also work as de-flicker) and didn't get too much out of it...
How can I smoke a particle emitter when using a bitmap look more three-dimensional? My particles always look flat. Can't I use 3d shapes as particles?
You can use 3d shapes by using a replicate3d node after the pRender to replace particles with shapes. Though for smoke that might not be the best approach - perhaps it's more of a softness/sorting/rendering issue?
@@VFXstudy It's a good idea. I'll give it a try. I'm doing smoke trails for bullets. I don't need much quality. I'm using fast noise as bitmap texture. I got some 3d illusion by raising the X axis 3d variation so I could get many 2d planes creating the effect of 3d, but I will try the replicator approach, as it looks super useful for other stuff as well
Good results, not usuable or beginer friendly
Not sure what you mean by "beginner friendly" - yes some of what I show is aimed at advanced users. The more you learn the more you can achieve - as always :)
Can fusion do what AE does ? czcams.com/video/FivFZhcQFi4/video.htmlsi=MDV79eqdzlaAfRH3
Yes, you can do that. Depth channel and even other technical passes like Normal Map, World Position, etc. are supported and there are native tools that work with them in Fusion.
wait.. in the latest version of fusion studio there is no LENS BLUR.. WTF??? why they keep taking them out.. I have to install divinci for it to have it...
They have not taken it out. It was never in there. It's a ResolveFX that was never ported to Fusion Studio, but you do have the defocous effect which is similar, though in my experience a bit slower - which is why I tend to go for the lens blur in Resolve.
@@VFXstudy Thank you!
