- Excuse my lighter I didn’t have a flash light an the flash in my phone was not lighting the area enough. Dont try that at home. I hope you find this video helpful! Please view the video in it’s entirety! I hope this will save you $12 - $100 especially considering a basic inspection at the dealership usually runs about $125.

Thank you!!! I haven't officially fixed it but I put a piece of the broken plastic back where it was so at least the lights will turn off and my car won't die tonight! Woo!
So you just glued a little piece right there to press the switch in?
@@cherellewhite593
I used duct tape!! Ok.. to be honest I had to buy duct tape the next day and I found a lint roller and peeled a few layers just to try and tape it on. It felt very very silly but my car didn't die that night lol
@@princesspeach3675 lol don't matter what you use, long as you reach the goal!
Thank you also
Thank you very much that was very helpful ☺️
Thank you! Literally fixed it in 3 mins with a screw. Had a dead battery because of this.
Get home after working all day, ready to relax. "Dad, your brake lights are still on". I am NOT dealing with this at 8:30 at night. Unhooked the battery, watched your video, now I have a game plan for tomorrow morning. Thanks!
Lol I unhooked my battery to I’m doing this tomorrow
Exactly what happened to me. Unplugged the switch. Love my car 200k miles. 🎉
You are a God send and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to post this. My child is driving this car while home from school and this just happened suddenly. He went to bed and I stayed up and was able to fix the issue because of your kindness. I am excited and grateful, thanks again!
My daughter watched your video and fixed the problem ON HER OWN ❤
Thank YOU for the video
Got up with a dead battery this morning, couldn’t exactly figure why other than cold weather and could possibly just need a new battery. Then, my mom came home and asked me why my brake lights were on so we started researching to figure out the issue. This video helped me, and I followed basically the same thing as you did so thanks.
So VERY grateful!!! Yes, that little plastic grommet was the problem!!!! Many blessings to you!
How anyone could give this video a thumbs down is baffling unless the actual switch was the problem. Worked exactly as you instructed. Thanks
Raymond Caylor glad you benefited from viewing, good day! 😊
I bet they’ll change their mind about that once they need a quick fix for their own issue.
Thank You a much!!! Cost Me $3.69 from Dealership, for a plastic pigeon hole!! Took Me 5 min or less with a 14mm !!! Again thanks a bunch, from a 40+ Woman whose been fixing on Her Own car by herself for 5+ years😊😊
I would never have known what to do on this on my Santa Fe. My buddy and I got a nut and bolt and did just this. Worked like a charm! Thank you brother!
Mine was a 2014 Santa Fe
You most likely just saved me a $200+ “diagnostic fee”. Thank you!! On my 2012 Sonata, the little rubber disc that pushes in the pin was worn through in the middle, so the pin just went into the disc, and didn’t depress. Not really sure how long it will last, but I just duct taped a dime over the hole in the disc, and it worked great!
I just had this happen and thought it was a relay behind the interior fuse box. You saved me a ton of trouble and money. Thank you!
Even a few years after this was posted still helping car illiterate people fix simple things. Thankyou so much 🙏🙏🙏
Yep I just used his video to fix mine!
My brake lights have been playing up for a while and today they stayed on. I figured it had something to do with the pedal so I looked it up and here I am. I happened to have 2 nuts and a screw. Worked a treat. Thanks
Thank you very much for the advice I just ran into this problem in my 2012 Hyundai sonata tonight I got out of the car and my brake lights would not turn off I cannot thank you enough for letting me know how to fix this and not get taken to the cleaners by Hyundai God-bless you and yours.
Mine was the actual switch but this showed me what I needed to be checking! THANK YOU!!!!
I really thought my transmission was going out! I had this fixed in 2 minutes. Thanks for the video!
awesome! worked for me. all the parts were there. all i had to do was compress that thingy a couple of times to loosen it up/remove some corrosion and it seems to work fine. thanks dude!
Thank you so much for this! I'm slowly working my way up in the Priesthood of Domesticus--he whose incense is sawdust, whose hymns are the songs of the drill and saw--but was completely bamboozled by this and was prepared to shell out money I didn't have in order to fix it, but thanks to you I did it myself and gained so many experience points!
Thank you for this information. My Santa Fe had a rubber ring in there and it broke in 3 places. Found one piece on the floor before I looked under the console. Had a perfect nut and bolt. A little tough to get the bolt through the nut as with just 2 hands and the break pedal not depressed. I managed. So far so good. Thank you!
Thank you so much. Your video came up first in my search.
Thank you! This was my problem as well. Thought I had electronical problems but the brake lights were draining my battery.
A BIG thumbs up 👍 from me!!
I will be subscribing 2 this channel right now! Thanks 4 explaining it so clearly!! Even though I'm a girl I know alot about cars but i never had this happened B4! I give u 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This video was very helpful ❤I just brought this car and I was going crazy trying to turn this Dame light off thanks bro
Super helpful! Thank you so much for making this straightforward and easy to understand!
,‼️💯💯💯💯
THANK YOU!!! I cleaned off the gunk from the components and the lights turned off! THANK YOU AGAIN!
Great explanations and examples, thank you so much!
Just get under there where brake pedal is located and at the top of break pedal you will see a round disk that pushes a pin up into a small black shutoff box. If pin is broken off just a little that rounded disk on the side of the break pedal will not be able to push that pin up into the shutoff box and turn the back break lights off. Take a half inch or inch threaded screw and place it through the hole on the disk that is attached to top of break pedal put a nut on the underside of the screw to keep it secure. Now when you release the break ped the back break lights will turn off and no more dead battery. It works fine. Trust me I know.
Thank you! This was so helpful! Idk what was wrong, but I found the brake switch and just had to unplug it and plug back in 🤙
Thank you it work
your lighter was the second best thing I have seen on YT this fix was the best
thank you hahahah some love for the lighter, SOUND OFF IN THE COMMENTS xD had got so much hate for that
Helped hugely fixing my son's car. Thank you!
Worked just as you said. Just put a nut/bolt combo and everything works as it should. Side note: my cruise control stopped working also but it's just because the cruise mechanism was getting a signal that the brakes were on. As soon as I fixed this, the cruise control worked as well. Thank you!
thanks for sharing that insight about the cruise control, hopefully this information will be of use to others as well
I do a lot of driving for work. This saved me. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the Video! Got 2 1/2 hours away from home and this exact problem arose, luckily I was across the street from an Advance auto and had 2* 14mm open end wrenches by chance, took like 45mins!
Does it matter what size bolt / nut it is ?
Brake Pedal Pad
This happened to me a second time. In 2018 the dealership handled it under recall notice; this time I took a small permanent magnet and placed it under the switch on the pedal bracket.
Cost ? have lots of small magnets so a few cents, time 30 seconds.
This took care of the brake lights, the parking situation , loss of speed on the roads, and the anti skid light coming on.
I hope the magnet part is useful, I saw people use screws, bolts, tape etc.
Nice. Just the type of video I like! Just the type of fix I like! Thanks!!
Thank you!!! I actually used an even easier trick... The little plastic piece was still on the floor broken in half. I just stuck a piece of it back into th space. Worked like a charm. Quick fix for me as it was dark and just wanted to not burn out my battery tonight. I will have to pick up a nut and screw tomorrow so thanks so much!!
Good move. months ago when this happened to me I wondered where that old yellowed piece of plastic came from
@@iunderstanphotography2780 Yep. That old yellow plastic disc lol. Who knew?lol
Good info thanks for the quick fix. It will probably be a permanent fix for me.
Thanks man! This vid Really helped me out! I appreciate you.
Just watched your video and did the same thing. Thanks man!
You are CLEAR, EASY TO UNDERSTAND..u don't need that lighter tho. thx, Manx! Life saver, u r
cheers! im glad it worked for you
Good looking out. Same issue on my '07 Hyundai Sonata where that plastic piece broke off except a dash light didn't turn on. Thanks.
X Johnson awesome glad it could help out!
This trick worked perfectly. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for this video. I had no idea that was draining my battery. Replaced switch today and no more problems.
What’s the name of the piece
@@jaxonjones3607 brake light switch
@@jaxonjones3607 the plastic piece thats not the break light switch is known as a grommet or spacer
Thank you sooo much I just rigged it up myself to night at 1:51am tipsy as fk my same exact problem I put a piece of mcdonald's kids meal box in between it for now THANKS AGAIN MUCH LOVE ❣️
Very helpful! I just wanted to put in my two cents that the sticky pad you put under a chair leg (so they don't scratch the floor) also did the trick. It also won't break the pin of the sensor as easily.
love it! creative fix!
You saved me so much time and money big thank you brother !!
Nice work...helped me alot...put a magnet on mine as an easy fix
Thanks a lot for this video. Very very helpful.
Could you say what size screw and nut to use? I have a 2007 Sonata.
Great video, thank you. My daughter was visiting and asked my why my brake lights were on (I had been home for hours). Went to the car which now needed a jump start and started looking around. Then the Google machine brought me to this video (top hit). Grabbed my flashlight and headed back to the car. The rubber piece that was supposed to close the switch was split in two pieces. So I put in a temporary block, and will 3D print a replacement. Thanks again for a quick, informative video.
happy it worked out for you! thanks for sharing!
Hey was the rubber piece light beige yellowish colored?? Because I found a piece of rubber/plastic split in a half circle on the floor. Was that my broken piece ?
@@iunderstanphotography2780 that was likely it. they vary in color, depending on year and model of car
Thank you for your video. I helped me.
You saved me bro. Thank you so much
Thanks alot bro.!! Realized my lights never turned off. I checked the fuses and all. Then i come across ur vid and realized the plastic thing broke off. I'll be making a fix similar to urs.
Solved my problem thanks !!
thank you! super quick fix
Thanks for the info it solved my problem
I use a brake clip for right now temporary fix by will fix it but good looking out
Yo I got a question family I took out the break light fuse and it shut off would my break light switch drain my battery though
This helped thank you !
Hi can you please tell me what size nuts and bolts you used? My problem was the exact same there wasn’t anything pushing the little button in, thanks for the help!
i'm not sure, i found them laying in a drawer, but I have to go and buy another nut
hopefully you solved this question by now
Thank you for your video. Just fixed my car for now with two quarters and some duct tape for now‼️👍
Creative!! love it haha
Its works, thank you 😊
I was happy until I started watching this video...But now I think I’m “depressed” 😆
I’m sorry I had to 😅 Thank you for your time and video ❤️
🤣
Great video. Lol Im missing that piece all together. The part the switch goes to, to turn off the break lights
Thanks for showing me exactly what I needed. I also found the broken piece on the floor of the drivers seat. Replaced it and solved the problem.
Yes
Used the screw and bolt fix in minutes. Yes, the plastic piece had disintegrated. Thanks
I appreciate it 🔥👍🏽
Thank you so much, the bolt was missing so it would compress so i just stuck some tape in there plan on getting it replaced soon
Very helpful, thanks!
Thank you for the info! 👍🏼🛫🛫🛫
So helpful, now I can smoke my weeds on a back road at night without sticking out like a sore thumb 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hy thanks for your great info.
I'm having a difficulty with hyundai santafe 19 front light are permanently on and can't turn them of I've checked all the fuss they are all ok.
Anyway salutations please?
Your light switch may be malfunctioning like the button or switch you use to turn them on and off may need to be replaced
@@thegasstationvlogs i see thanks a lot
What size nuts and bolts would be needed for this?
Thank God for youtubeeee😩
Hw much is that little piece if i was to order it ?
Great explanation 🤙🏽
Lol, I used the smallest cork at home depot.
Thank you sirrrrrr 🙏🏻
Very helpful, thxs..
Thank you, just saved my mom a AAA trip.. 👍
Thanks for this
What size bolt was it?
Anyone know what size screw and nut mine is missing so there’s my problem smh
Your my hero dude 👏🏿
this was driving me crazy . happy I’ve found a solution
I’m having this problem rn I’m trying to find where I can buy mines from
Great video, man, super helpful. One thing though, that lighter is not the most effective as a flashlight😂
hahahahaha agreed super large glare and might have melted wires on accident lol
Fix the issue thanks 👍
Thumbs up! Fixed mine with pencil eraser
Creative I love it.. good fix!
my brother in law turned me on to the little clear stick things you put on cabinet doors so they don’t slam! same thickness as the broken plastic thingy.. clean the metal bracket and stick it on.. perfect!
If it doesn’t stay for ever.. keep the rest in the glove box!
very clever!! love it!
THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks!
What if only my right hand back break light stays on as if I’m pressing my brakes? The other side is normal. Checked bulb, connector, fuse all good. Do u have an idea what it could be. I also checked the wires and also good
that couild be from a faulty brake light switch, the fuse inside the switch could be shorted or the switch mechanism itself may need to be replaced. it looks like a plastic box above the break pedal, good luck
1st get a flashlight. 2nd thank you just fixed my santa fe by what you said
Amazing!!! Thank you so much!!!! You are a total life saver. I really appreciate you!! 😁😁😁
Thanks
thanks for making me realize the switch turns the lights on when it's OUT ....DOH!! I thought my new switch was bad for a minute. my 07 entourage doesn't have the plastic thing that breaks off, just a sillicone bumper pad BTW. The engineers at hyundai must be having a good laugh thinking about guys trying to spin that nut back on the switch in those tight spaces.
thank you for sharing that insight, Im glad you got what you needed from the video, much love
Good vid
What size screw?
Was there supposed to be a bolt there already? I don’t know how my brake lights ever turned off before without it as it just goes through the hole
there was likely a piece of plastic there before that broke off, even something as simple as a couple zip ties through the hole should do the trick, or a trip to hardware store for the nut and bolt as well
Sweet!!!
