  • This is a playthrough using Kuma in the Arcade version of Tekken 2 version A. Read on below for more information...
    Kuma is the personal sub-boss for Paul in the game, and he is a hidden playable character through the use of a secret command/code, shown below.
    ===== HOW TO SELECT KUMA =====
    1) After inserting your credits, hold the RP button.
    2) Now press Start to go into the character select screen.
    3) On the character select screen, with RP still held down, highlight Paul and press Down, Start, Down.
    If you've done it correctly, Kuma will be selected.
    ===== ABOUT KUMA =====
    In Tekken 1, what started off as an interesting "animal character" and contrast to the human fighters ended up being a staple for the Tekken franchise... if you are well-versed in fighting games, Kuma should be one of the first characters that pops into your head when you think of animal fighting game characters.
    In Tekken 2, Kuma returns with a more "realistic" character in-game model structure instead of the cartoony look in Tekken 1. He also seems to be made of polystyrene boxes in this game as well.
    ===== GAMEPLAY =====
    Kuma is yet another character who is a derivative of Jack-2... he plays almost identically to him bar a few differences here and there. Because of his large frame as a bear, I am sure that his hitbox range is slightly better than Jack-2's.
    It should be noted that in Arcade Version A of the game, he does not have the Rolling Bear, Salmon Hunting nor Terrible Claw moves. These were given to him in Version B of the game.
    ===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / TRIVIA =====
    ---- His Stage 8 personal boss is Paul Phoenix, and vice-versa.
    ---- He is also known as Mad Bear.
    ---- In Tekken 2, when in his alternative colour (white), he does not have the red claws from the PS1 version of Tekken 1.
    ---- As a bear character, Kuma has appeared in all of the Tekken games. The original Kuma appeared in Tekken 1 and 2, and his son (Kuma II) appearing in Tekken 3 and beyond.
    ---- In the PS1 version of Tekken 2, when he is not operating as a sub-boss, his stage BGM is the Acropolis theme ("March to the Columns") from Tekken 1.
    ===== ABOUT ARCADE TEKKEN 2 Ver.A =====
    This is a vast improvement on the prequel as it is far more refined and fleshed out in all aspects. All the personal sub-bosses (besides male Kunimitsu) return and all them are playable through the use of hidden input commands on the character select screen. Every character in the game has their own stage background as well.
    Interestingly, it should also be mentioned that in the Arcade versions of Tekken 2, there is a setting in the options/operator screen that allows you to set either Baek or Jun as the regular character on the character select screen.
