      @Divergent Integral I think there is nothing wrong with using any style. True art does not belong to a particular time or culture; once discovered, it belongs to humanity forever, so it is our right and privilege being able to take advantage of anything that was invented before us.
      Like Newtonian physics (aka classical mechanics) still fits the needs it was invented for, baroque music does also fit its purpose. Nothing can replace, and there is no need to replace, neither classical mechanics, nor baroque music, because these are the things which serve their purposes best. :)

    For me, I think this debate rather extreme and unnecessary, except as a provocation. Respectfully, absolute blanket statements like those being proffered here ('not a single original note' or conversely 'not a single musical idea' by Vivaldi) cannot possibly hold up to scrutiny. If I did not know enough about Vivaldi to make my own opinion, I'd still know from experience that in such a debate, the truth always lies somewhere in between. So unless there is an effort to tone down the debate just a bit, the discussion is getting nowhere. I can say one thing: I enjoyed this concerto, and it does not matter to me what was the artistic approach behind it. I do not see any reason to question its legitimacy, because to me, in the end, there is only one point and that is musical enjoyment. That is not to say I do not recognize some Vivaldi mannerisms 'of choice', or even some textual ideas (in the last movement of this concert there is a clear echo of the main theme of Vivaldi's Op. 9 no. 4, last movement). How does this matter to me? It does not. And I can see no viable reason, musical or artistic, to talk trash about this piece, unless you have a personal grudge against the composer, or some kind of inferiority complex of your own. You may not like this music, but don't hide behind scientific reasons because the veil is so very very thin. Bravo maestro Sardelli, I applaud you. Any creative effort of this scale is to be applauded, and creative energy is so precious. Don't waste it on people of no merit.

      Right, I just don't understand the controversy. Fritz Kreisler also composed Baroque music and moreover claimed that they were works by Gaetano Pugnani, Giuseppe Tartini, Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi. The author of these concerts did not make a fake, he only composed music in a style that he certainly knows well.

      Se posso permettermi (ascolto spesso le sue composizioni, ho letto il suo libro e vedo in tv alcuni concerti barocchi da Lei diretti) nelle sue composizioni Lei comunque mantiene un certo rigore metrico. Al contrario, Vivaldi si permetteva delle "scorrettezze" incredibili. Nel Credo, per esempio, parte con il canto in levare, per poi proseguire immediatamente dopo sempre in battere. Lo stesso capita nel Gloria. Ed i bassi, onestamente, non sono del tutto canonici. Ma l'effetto ritmico e coloristico è davvero entusiasmante. In Bach ammiriamo la struttura contrappuntistica unita ad un lirismo che vorrebbe essere italiano ma che è tutto proprio, in Vivaldi credo che il colore sia una nota dominante. Come pure l'effetto sorpresa (tipicamente barocco). Gli strumenti sono usati per il loro suono specifico, spesso sono insostituibili, non intercambiabili, salvo perdere parte importante della musica.

    • @Modoantiquo
      @Modoantiquo Před 5 lety +1

      Ottima analisi, caro @@gnzanivan. Vivaldi ama introdurre talvolta qualche elemento asimmetrico nelle sue composizioni. Tipiche sono ad esempio le sue frasi tematiche di una battuta e mezzo in tempo di 4/4, oppure l'immissine di nuovi soggetti a metà di una fuga. Senza parlare delle sue incredibili arditezze enarmoniche nei recitativi o in certi adagi di sola armonia.

    Those who feel inclined to compare this with Vivaldi are missing something important, and most likely don’t listen to much else from this period. Vivaldi was a master of the Italian school of his day. If you listen to the music of his contemporaries, you should hear consistencies. This modern composer is clearly familiar with these consistencies and also musical forms utilized around the 1720s - 1740s, and is by no means a rip off of Vivaldi. For those who want to learn more about this stuff, look up Robert Gjeridgen and perhaps read his ‘‘ music in the galant style’. Hope some find this useful

    • @baroque_engineer
      @baroque_engineer Před 5 lety +8

      This is rather strong opinion. :) I would not call this copying, although we can hear some similar-sounding passages. You see, this was normal in baroque era per se, and, moreover, Vivaldi is very influental composer indeed. If you dig into baroque works, you'll find similar ideas in works of Vivaldi, Leclair, Schickhardt, etc. So Sardelli is just perfectly in style. No need to blame him for copy-paste.

    • @andreaflorit114
      @andreaflorit114 Před 5 lety

      @@baroque_engineer I'm a baroque flute performer and I'm quite aware that it was a common practice for baroque composers to "reuse" their own material (or even other composers' material) in a different context. JSBach, Haendel, Vivaldi did just that (They worked on such a tight schedule and the amount of their production is so big that on the whole they cannot be blamed for reinventing their own tunes in other works of their own every now-and-then). Quantz says that Vivaldi's ritornellos were an inspiration for him (and indeed they were for many other composers such as Naudot, Chedeville, Buffardin and so on). Corelli's and Vivaldi's styles spread all over musical Europe. F. Couperin envisaged an ideal musical style which was a merge of italian and french styles (cfr. L'Apotheose de Lully). Bach, Handel, Telemann composed orchestral suites with ouvertures in the french style. Bach composed the Concerto Italiano and the Aria variata alla maniera Italiana. And last-but-not-least, every composer is influenced by his/her environment. This much is obvious.
      The point I'm making is that Sardelli's concert lacks originality completely (it's not just a matter of some similar sounding passages!!!). Perhaps his goal was just to display his technical skills or his mastery of Vivaldi's style, or to make a tribute to Vivaldi?
      Stravinsky once said that Vivaldi composed the same concerto over and over again. While I totally disagree with S. statement, I wander why a contemporary composes could endow us with yet another Vivaldi's concert :)
      Regards

      @@andreaflorit114 Well, I'm an electronics design engineer, and I'm glad to have a conversation with a baroque flute performer. :) This is not what a design engineer is normally able to do, because all of the performers are normally on stage, and engineers are either among the audience or backstage (this happens too). :)
      Anyway, I guess you have a better understanding of the inner workings of music, so I'll just beleive you in regard to this opus. :) But it is still much more enjoyable then the most of what is composed today.
      Some say that if Vivaldi composed the same concerto over five hundred times, than Stravinsky did not compose MUSIC at all. :)

      @@@baroque_engineer LOL that's a really strong opinion (much stronger than mine, but nevertheless one which I would be inclined to agree with!!!).

    • @baroque_engineer
      @baroque_engineer Před 5 lety +1

      @ANDREA FLORIT The reason is simple: baroque music is elegant and, I would dare to say, rather scientific by its nature. It has a feeling of "done right" embedded.
      There is no room for "maybe" in engineering. There is no room for dissonances in baroque music, and every chord progression resolves in a right way. It is natural to define "right" as "pleasant", and physics is a natural science.
      By the way, it is not a coincidence that the foundation of physics was established in a baroque period.
      The same is true for some (but not all) jazz styles. The fun fact is that "true connoisseurs" frequently label these as "too polished" and "outright commercial".
      It was interesting for me to hear an opinion of a musician, because I can judge music from a listener's standpoint only.
