  • Baglama has been the instrument of the minstrels in Turkey for centuries. Minstrels have expressed people's love, sorrow, resentments, and happiness with Baglama; they conveyed our tales the same way. On the other hand, Baglama is also played for entertainment purposes in cities and in country side. Baglama is a pear-shaped lute, it can be long-necked and short-necked. It is also called Saz which simply means “instrument” in Turkish. Baglama is one of the most widely-played instruments in Turkey. If you have decided to play this special instrument, we offer you a wide range of Baglama types in our store. Our Baglamas are grouped as standard, professional and special Baglama depending on the musician’s needs. They are all hand-made and are in good quality so as they can respond to the requirements of a Baglama player. We present in our catalogue Long Neck Saz , Short Neck Baglama, and Electric Saz varieties. We believe you will find the most suitable Baglama among the Baglamas in our collection at the best value

    Thanks for the video, I usually tune BEA on my long-neck saz, because ADG it's too loose, but CFA# it's too tight for my taste.
    What about making some quick song tutorials for beginners? I think it would be great to motivate people to buy and learn this wonderful instrument.

    Hi. All good. Thank you. But what do you actually tune each of 3 strings. ie, lowest strings are tuned to octave. Middle unison same i believe. What about the top 2 strings? Octave or same. İ mostly hear them in octave but not quite sure.

    • @sazstuff6547
      @sazstuff6547 Před rokem +1

      First, to make sure you have the correct strings: on both, short and long neck, the strings are (from your head to your feet) thick-thin thin-thin thick-thin-thin.
      The basic tuning for short neck goes A2-A3 G3-G3 D3-D4-D4
      The basic tuning for long neck goes G2-G3 D3-D3 A2-A3-A3
      There are tuners/apps that display the octave numbers.
      But, as said in the video: most of the time, you make all strings a lil bit tighter and go up one or half a note. as long as all strings have the same offset, it's alright.
      This is the most common way to tune, there are many variants. occasionally you'll even see a thick string in the middle course (I prefer this...)

      @trulyawfulguitar Před 3 lety +1

      @@SalaMuzik I have a long neck saz made by Yılmaz İpek (Izmir) way back in the 1970s. At that time, there were no machine tuners, and I have always had trouble getting the pegs to hold their position. Then, a few years ago, I discovered that violins often have the same problem with slipping pegs. So now I use the violinist's solution: peg drops. They're sold by almost any music store, and online. Put *a very small amount* on the peg (one peg at a time), and then push it into the hold and tune it. Then move on to the next peg. Works great!

      Chords as in guitar chords? To accompany songs?
      Traditionally a Bağlama is not used in this way. In turkish songs the Saz plays the singing melody note for note, most of the time. Chords are sometimes played for emphasis.
      However, there is one book with chord tables for different tunings: Bağlama Için Akor Şemaları - by Ziya Bulgurcu.

    i see two different tunings for these online from different places - one that is tuned in 5ths like this video and one that is tuned with C on the top string, Bb on the middle string, and F on the bottom string (or other notes but with the same intervals). can you use either of these tunings on both long and short neck saz or is one tuning used on long necks and the other tuning used on short necks?

    • @sazstuff6547
      @sazstuff6547 Před rokem +1

      The GG-DD-AAA tuning is called "Kara Düzen" and is more common on the Long Neck Saz. The AA-GG-DDD Tuning is called "Bağlama Düzen" and is more common on shortneck. There are many more, local tunings.
      If you have a long neck Saz and drop the GG course to EE you can turn it into a shortneck saz by putting a Capo in fret 7. if I remember correctly...

    • @RobWickline
      @RobWickline Před rokem

      @@sazstuff6547 Oh that's interesting! I never made that connection with the tunings before - how the difference between them is just moving that bottom string around. This also gets at another question I've had - do the long-neck saz have a middle string like the short-neck saz? By this I mean, is the middle string two strings tuned to the same note as opposed to the outside strings being in octaves? Thanks for your reply!

    • @sazstuff6547
      @sazstuff6547 Před rokem

      @@RobWickline Yes. The most common configuration for the middle course is two thin strings of the same thickness and same tuning.
      Both on long neck and short neck. But occasionally you'll see people use an octave bass string in the middle course, instead (thick-thin).
      I'm not sure why the middle string does not have the octave tuning by default. Maybe some Expert Saz player here knows? 🤓
      I think some playing styles like "Zeybek" are often played with the octave middle course 🤔
      Personally, I love the sound of the Octave D-d middle course on a Long Neck Saz, since it's the "lowest" of the courses and playing string changes sound more "fluid"...
      On my Short Neck Saz I keep the middle course with "default" double thin strings, mainly because I get lessons and it's easier to follow unmodified.
