    Unfortunately I never saw the twin towers in person either, but I'm currently working on a project that actually consists on a detailed 3D model of the WTC shortly before 9/11 the same year it happened, using video footage, pictures, many many blueprints and years of investigation. I don't know if it would be recomended to put it in VR but I want to put as much reality on it as I can, something like Titanic: Honor & Glory, with the idea to start a different experience for the people who never saw the WTC, as a tribute to all heroes and inocent souls lost that day, and to remember what that beautiful complex meant to this world.
    Thanks Spammals for sharing this experience, truly a sad and unexpected event that morning of September 11 2001.

    Don't worry Spammals, anyone who thinks you're being disrespectful either didn't pay attention, or didn't actually watch the video. Thank you for handling this with care and kindness. A lot of people and families from many different backgrounds were affected by this, so even though it's been nearly 16 years, it's still something that causes people a lot of pain and sadness when they think about it.
    I think that you're absolutely right, VR isn't just a shiny new thing to play games with. It's a tool that can be used to experience history in a way that can hit home and resonate with people differently than books and film can achieve.
    In short, I'm an American, and approve of the video 100%; much respect, Spammals :)

    This is horrible. I was seriously horrified the whole time and literally jumped out of scare when the first plane hit. I can't even imagine how terrible it must've been for those poor people. I was wishing the characters would survive, but this ending only shows how sad the real story is. It's good to see that the students who made this were really respectful, as you said. I hope (and believe) that Titanic: Honor and Glory will be as respectful as this.

  • @eaglevision993

    While this only covers the first 10 minutes of the attack, this is pretty accurate. Many people jumped from the 101st floor of 1 WTC after about 10-15 minutes. The fire was just below in the in the 90s floor height. After an initial lull of 5 minutes after all the oxygen was consumed in the fireball, the fire really grew in intensity very fast in the impact zone.

  • @timonsolus
    @timonsolus Před 6 lety +3

    Perhaps the VR technology isn’t there yet, but it would be really cool to have the entire day of an office worker in the tower, from having breakfast at home, talking to the wife and kids, saying goodbye casually like you would any normal day, walking the street to the subway, getting a train to the WDC, walking into the lobby, saying hi to the receptionist, and getting a lift (or two) to your office. Then spending some time in the office, getting a coffee, and actually doing some work on the computer, reading emails, working on a spreadsheet. All so normal.
    Then bam, it happens. There should be a random chance when you start the experience of being someone on the top floor who can’t make it out, and being someone who is on a lower floor who has the opportunity to get out, although if you take too long helping other people who are panicking or struggling to make it down the many, many stairs, then you don’t make it out in time before the building collapses on top of you.

    I was borne two years after the towers fell. Two years and 4 days to be exact. I was borne on September 15th, 2003. And even though I was borne in the world after the towers fell, thanks to my parents and my own general curiosity for things that happened in the past, I have a great deal of respect for that horrific day that would cause the world to practically go on lockdown for the next 3 days. Once the dust had cleared and the debris was moved, we saw something new. It was a door. One that every nation decided it would step through at the same time, as one world. And through this door was the different world.... the one we know today. When all nations were on the other side, the United States shut that door and locked it. That's when we decided we would keep moving forward, never to go back through that door again. But we would remember what is behind it. Always.

    • @astrovanman
      @astrovanman Před 2 lety

      Some people were trapped in their offices due to doors becoming jammed shut in their frames from the structural warping any twisting caused by the plane impact explosion.
      A large number of people did opt to go up to seek rescue via roof rather than the looming task of walking down 100+ floors. However, after the 93 bombing, in which many people were rescued from the roof via helicopter, the emergency/ evacuation plans were updated and the inclusion of any rooftop rescue procedure was specifically not considered as part of any official procedure due to disagreements between the fire department (in charge of emergency rescue operation) and the Police (who had access to those crucial helicopters). And The owners Port Athourity wanted to reinstall the giant telecommunications tower on the roof deck of wtc1 which had been removed prior to 93 . Leaving no space required for legit helipads.

    I was a freshman in H.S. in NY. It was only September so i was only in H.S for the first time for a few short days, still getting adjusted as it was only the beginning if the school year. I remember we had only had a short time that we had arrived to school. The day hadn't really begun yet. It was a regular day, there's no social media, no smartphones so there's no quick news access other than TV. It must have been 3rd period, and the announcement comes on, one kid is called to the office (because he was going home) 3 mins later, another kid is called, 5 mins later another kid, 3 more mins and yet another kid is going home at this point we're all like "wow what a coincidence" we joke even the teacher is like what's going on today lol. We have no idea what has happened yet. And so many parents are picking kids up and at this point teachers beginning to be told personally by other teachers they don't quickly tell students, in a TV Room in the school, they put on the news. And there's one tower burning with a plane in it. soon i was then called by the office, my time to be picked up had come. The thing about 9/11 was, at first it just felt like an accident, then a second plane hit live on tv and now everyone is awake. Then the news started saying hijacked, and terror, and attaked on our land, and suddenly the pentegon took one too, and that felt like hold the phone, were losing a war what's going to happen to us? That day felt like many more things were to come, and no one wanted to wait around to see how it plays out. Parents picked up kids, people with anyone working near the towers or in them, or even in NY at all jammed up the phone lines, some left work abruptly. Sirens of all kinds were going off everywhere in NY and you knew it was because of this war. Traffic jams, honking horns. By the time i got home i was able to catch the towers fall live TV. At first, it was just this these fires and evacuation any one above where the planes hit, had it rough but theres was hope that we'd just have everyone exist the buildings. People close by or trapped by the fire begun to jump out the windows because of the heat live on TV and it was awful to have to see people make this choice. Then a tower feel, and it feel with everyone's family, Everyone responders hope of saving anyone, Everyone's expectection that only some where in trouble but many would come home. And then it turned Manhattan into a cloud footage from peoples cams, news cams alike ran for their lives from the ash and cloud and huge chunks falling. Just breathing that stuff in could kill, then it happened again.

    2:00 I never got to see the towers either. I came home from school that day to my mom, kneeling in her garden and sobbing. She showed me what happened and I wasn't really sure because I thought it was an accident. She said "bad people flew planes in there on purpose. A lot of people have died and a lot more are injured, but I want you to remember this day because it will be with you for the rest of your life."
    3 or 4 months later (honestly can't remember), we visited NYC and I saw they were still clearing rubble and at that point it was still search and recovery. People couldn't walk by the site without sobbing or falling to the ground in tears. There was a small group (I'm guessing like a church group) who were reading all the known names of those that passed, starting with the firefighters. My mom held me close and started to cry as she prayed. I will never forget looking down into that pit and seeing workers walking over rubble that was still there and the paramedics that waited on the ramp down to the job site and the police that stood at the top, trying to hold their emotions back when people came up to shake their hands and hug them.

    On this day I was 10 years old, I visited the South Tower with my Mum and my father was working 5 floors above the impact in the North Tower. I was on the 105 floor in the South Tower when the North Tower got hit. I knew my father was in the Tower and I didn't really know what happend. Then all the time later the Towers fell one of the Survivors was a friend of my father and he told me he wouldn't return. A year later i Realized that he died when it fell...
    RIP to everyone who died on that day :(

    I remember this day well;
    1.45 UK time, I was in primary school (P6), had the janitor & headmaster come in and ask what was best to do incase attacks where going to happen here too. Once we stop at 3pm (11am NY) parents who came from near or far (walking) had different stories, some never knew, some thought it was only 1 plane, and that others saying they both collapsed remember the panic and confusion. Went to my Grans and just seen on TV dust and smoke all over NY. Only later on I knew it was the Twin towers I loved they buildings seeing them in Godzilla, King Kong 1976 & other movies a also wanted to see them especially at night. What a sight New Yorkers would have seen every night and day & they complained they looked horrible aswell.
