Learned in Physics that air is a good thermal insulator. The reason you feel cold in out side is not the air but conductivity due to air moving.

Does the R-value change if you stick the bubble side onto the glass vs. away from it?

1:40 In the basement it may be better to just put a 5 inch thick styrofoam in the window. You don't need that much light in the basement.

how long does the water hold it in place? i am planning on putting a layer of 3m film over the bubble wrap. if the bubble wrap falls it will be stuck inside the 3m film and i wont be able to re apply it without having to re do the entire 3m film (which is one time use).

I don't know but I am going to use double sided velcro strops

Does this help with summer heat?

Yes. Use reflective bubble wrap to be more effective.

He did it wrong...you apply the flat side (non bubble) side to the glass, otherwise it won't stay on very long.

By putting it bubble side to the glass, you increase the amount of trapped air which is what insulates. =^..^=

      Exactly. The whole point.
