    Good review. I like my Max a lot but at 185 lbs, my KQi3 Max only goes up to 21mph and the range is only about 22-24 miles, less than 15 miles if there are any moderate hills to climb. I do recommend the Max though. They frequently go down to $749.99. Great intermediate scooter at that price.

      Yes, it's typical of all E-Scooter brands when looking at specs for both speed, as well as range. Claimed range of scooters are in fact achievable, however only under ideal (and more limped power) circumstances such as: rider's weight, ambient temperatures, riding it in Eco Mode, mostly flat surfaces and very little stop & go traffic. Usually one can expect to realistically achieve 60-70% of the claimed battery range.

      @sunnykundi2479 Před rokem +2

      The 40 mile range is usually tested with the person that weighs not that much, and on the eco-mode. A good rule of thumb is to divide the advertise range by two to get a realistic range.

    • @stupid47
      @stupid47 Před rokem +2

      On electric scooters, many factors affect range.
      - Most test results are based on a 170-lb. rider. If you're 200+lbs., expect a reduction.
      - Cold temperatures reduce battery efficiency, notably below 60°F.
      - Low tire pressures and improperly adjusted brakes increase rolling resistance.
      - As with cars, short distance trips use more power, especially where there is a lot of stop-and-go driving. Repeated acceleration from a stop draws hard on the battery, whereas sustained speeds draw less.
      - As scooters have "gears" to control speed, max range is obtained by driving at its lowest setting. They usually omit that crucial fact.

      For beginner probably want to get something cheaper. For almost $1k this is not really the best option for a first scooter unless money is not a concern. There are tons of good scooters out there that are $400-$800. Also not all beginner wants 20mph+. Probably solid tires are better for beginners as well, most of them would probably freak out if a flat ever happen. Not to mention most of them know nothing about tire pressure and maintenance.

    • @zeppy13131
      @zeppy13131 Před rokem +1

      Yes, Niu's scooters are great for beginners! Something very important to consider is the angle of the stem between the deck and handlebars. For each design, there's an ideal stem angle that makes it easiest to keep the front wheel straight, making the scooter most stable. (It involves some principles called "rake" and "trail"... For details, Google "scooter rake trail", without the quotes.) Many scooter-makers ignore this, making it very easy to lose control of their scooters. Niu, however, has been making larger sit-down scooters for decades, and have transferred their design experience to their new stand-up scooters.
      As the video mentions, they also have a built-in program that limits the scooter's speed for a certain period, so beginners can get used to operating the throttle (rather than having the scooter zoom out from under them!) and to riding in general. I know of NO other scooter-maker that includes this thoughtful, important feature.
      Niu makes several other models that are less powerful but perfectly fine for riding in the city and around the neighbourhood. The Kqi2 is a top-rated scooter in its class, costs significantly less, is lighter to carry, and (in my opinion) would suit a beginner even more than this one. I don't think most people really want to go much over 20 MPH on a stand-up scooter anyway... That may not seem fast-but when there's nothing between you and the road but a couple of 9" wheels, believe me, it feels _plenty_ fast. Cheers!

      I have a Kugoo Kirin M4 Pro, and it's like the scooter in the video, but in some ways better, for about $200 less. It has front and rear suspension, a 500W motor, 20-25 mile range, 23-25 MPH top speed, a grocery list of spare parts direct from the manufacturer, and is mostly user-serviceable. Best of all, there are no apps or accounts to set up, no stupid tutorial to watch, and no manufacturer-imposed limits that have to be unlocked with an app. Simply insert the key, turn it on, start the throttle, and off you go. Its build quality is pretty decent and rugged.
      The idea Niu is good, but for people like me, their approach turns me off. I don't need or want the manufacturer to decide what's best for me or to impose any kind of limit on a product I pay for unless I prove to them that I can use it. That's why I prefer a scooter built by a completely Chinese manufacturer, not because I support their economic or political system, but because they at least know what their customers want, and let them be their own assessors of risk.

      It's very subjective... It depends how each scooter's designed, and how sensitive you are to bumps. Scooters as well designed and stable as Niu's are much more comfortable than many other suspension-less scooters. Obviously these aren't designed for off-road, doing tricks, etc., but they're just fine for in-city riding.
      Having ridden many scooters in the $800-$1200 range, I think that as long as you have good pneumatic tires, ride on reasonably smooth surfaces, and don't plant to go at high speeds, suspension is overrated.
      Again, it depends on design and build. Scooters that aren't well made can have very stiff rides even with suspension. It also adds considerably to the price of production. If a manufacturer wants to offer an inexpensive model with suspension, but also keep its prices down, they have to cut corners somewhere else (build quality, battery, braking, etc.).
      If you don't really need suspension for the kind of riding you do, you'll have a lot more choices, save dough, and have a scooter that's pounds lighter to carry. It's really worth considering.
